Chapter 18

'Much later' actually didn't happen that night. Trev left early that morning after informing me that I was not to leave the house, period. I would have argued with him, but he gave me one last kiss that wiped all thought of argument out of my brain. He didn't come back until well after I was asleep. The only reason why I had known he had come home that night was that I had fallen asleep on the couch and woke up in bed.

I buried my head in his pillow, breathing in his scent. I tried and failed to ignore the tightening in my chest that had accompanied his absence all day yesterday and was still plaguing me. There was a gentle knock on the door, and my heart expanded then jumped as Trev's voice came through it.

"Vie? Sweetheart, you awake?"

"Yeah," I said breathlessly.

Trev popped in with a cup of coffee made up just how I liked it and a bag thrown over his back.

"I knew you were an early riser. I brought you some coffee and here." Trev dropped the bag next to the bed. "I stopped by your
