CHRISTINA POV

The courtroom was exactly what I'd expected.

Dark wood paneling on the walls, high ceilings, a long table at the front where Marcel would

sit as Alpha and judge, rows of chairs on either side for the pack members who would

witness the proceedings.

And already seated in those chairs were the pack elders, older wolves who had served

under Marcel's father and now advised Marcel on pack matters.

And among them, sitting like she belonged there, was Sandra.

Marcel's mother.

She looked e

CHAPTER 69CHRISTINAMy eyes opened slowly, like someone had glued them shut and I was tearing through layers of sticky film just to see.Everything hurt. Not sharp pain, just this dull, heavy ache that spread through my whole body like I'd been hit by a truck and left on the side of the road. My head throbbed and my muscles felt weak and useless, my throat was so dry it felt like I'd swallowed sand.I tried to move and realized I couldn't and panic shot through me, hot and immediate.I was tied down.Thick rope wrapped around my wrists and ankles, binding me to a bed that smelled like mildew and old wood. I pulled against them, testing, but they didn't give even a little, whoever had tied these knots knew what they were doing.I blinked a few more times, trying to clear my vision, trying to remember. The courtroom, maxwell's smug face, Davis lies, the look on every present pack elder staring at me like I was crazy, being dragged out, screaming and humiliated. And then I'd left Marc

CHAPTER 68MARCELThe drive felt endless even though I knew it was only a few minutes. My hands gripped the steering wheel hard enough that my knuckles went white. Jonathan paced restlessly inside me, his agitation bleeding into my thoughts like static. Something was wrong and I could feel it in my bones. When I finally pulled up to the location Gabriel had sent me, I saw maybe a dozen of my wolves already gathered. Some were standing in a loose circle, talking in low voices while others were spread out in wolf form, moving through the trees with their noses to the ground, still searching. The moment I stepped out of the car, they all turned, their heads dipped and hands went to chests in respectful greeting."Alpha."I barely acknowledged them, my eyes went straight to Gabriel, who was standing near the center of the group, his expression tight."Where is she?" I asked immediately, moving toward him. "Where's Christina?"Gabriel shook his head. "It's not about Christina, Alpha."

MARCELI woke up reaching for her like I always did, my hand sliding across the sheets, searching for Christina’s warmth, the soft curve of her waist, the way she usually tucked herself against me but the space beside me was cold and empty. The sheets felt untouched, her scent faded like she hadn’t been there at all last night and my chest tightened instantly, I knew how yesterday played out but I didn't expect her not to come back to bed.I sat up slowly, rubbing a hand over my face, the argument from yesterday lingered like a bad taste.I’d let her go, thinking she needed space, now that decision sat heavy in my gut as I dragged myself out of bed and got ready for the day, forcing my mind toward work even as worry gnawed at the edges.Gabriel was waiting right outside the door when I stepped into the hallway, his face already carrying the weight of bad news.“Morning, Alpha,” he said, falling in step with me. “Rogue situation is getting worse, the Crescent Lake pack was hit hard l

CHRISTINA POVI paced the length of the room like a caged animal.Back and forth. Back and forth. My feet moved without my permission, driven by something restless and furious that had taken root in my chest and refused to stop burning. The courtroom, Davis. The look on his face when he denied everything.I pressed my fingers to my temples and squeezed.*How?*That was the question tearing through me on a loop, over and over, sharp enough to draw blood. How had they gotten to Davis? How had Sandra or Maxwell reached him, cornered him, turned him inside out until he was willing to stand in that room, look me in the eyes, and lie? He had sworn to me, he had put his hand over his heart and sworn by the Moon Goddess herself, that wasn't something wolves did lightly. And yet he had done it.He had stood there in front of Marcel, in front of the elders, in front of everyone, and he had undone me with three sentences.I stopped pacing and let out a sound that was somewhere between a scre

CHRISTINA POVIt was late at night when Marcel finally returned to our room, the door opened quietly, and Ilooked up from where I'd been sitting on the bed, waiting for him.The momenttge dim room light picked up his face and I saw him fully, worry flooded throughme. He was pale, so pale that his skin looked almost translucent in the dim light and he waswobbling slightly, like his legs could barely support his weight."Marcel," I said, immediately getting up and rushing to his side."What's wrong? Are you okay?""I'm fine," he said, but his voice was weak, strained."Just tired, It's been a long day."He moved toward the bed, each step seeming to take enormous effort."I won't be able to summon Davis and Maxwell tonight," he said, sitting down heavily on theedge of the mattress."We'll have to do it tomorrow, I'm sorry, Christina, I know you wanted answers today, but Ijust... I can't right now.""It's okay," I said quickly, kneeling in front of him."Tomorrow is fine, you n
