7. Meghan

I can hear my alarm blaring but I'm too lazy to get up and turn it off. My phone beeps and luckily it's just beside me so I stretch and pick it up.

Best bitch: Get your lazy ass out of bed, Meg.

I place the phone down and continue staring at the ceiling. Another beep.

Best bitch: I mean it Meg, you are my ride to school.

Me: You have five brothers who all have sick cars and driving license, use them.

Best bitch: The twins are not home, Tyler doesn't get out of bed until 9:00am, I can't ride with Trevor because I'm allergic to silence and Travis is sick.

Me: My baby is sick? Okay I'll be there. Be patient and do not blow up my phone.

I got into the kitchen after getting ready. Mom had left for the store already but she made egg and toast. I sat on the island and began consuming my cold breakfast.

'Morning sis'. Gracie said as she shuffled into the kitchen.

'Morning'. I mumbled. We hadn't quite talked since dinner with the Rodriguez' because she spent most of the weekend at Stuart's place.

'Gracie? I'm really sorry for what I said at dinner Friday night, it was none of my business'.

'It's totally fine, in fact, thanks. Someone had to put it out there, it's high time Stuart proposed, I'm not getting any younger'.

'You are 22 Grace, I think you are pretty young'.

'I won't be 22 forever. We are going to need about a year to plan the wedding and another year for World Tour after the wedding. When will we start having kids? What if I hit menopause before then?'

Sometimes I wonder if she thinks with her brain like the rest of us. I dumped my plate in the sink and grabbed my bag.

'You are leaving already?' She asked.

'Yeah. I have to get Pokello'.

'Okay. Say hi to the girls'.

'I will'.

Pokello was standing infront of her gate when I got there.

'Seriously? You won't let me come in?' I asked immediately she got into the car.

'I know you just want to see Travis, he's fine. It's just allergies, you can see him after school'.

'You fed him honey again?!'

'Tyler did, snuck it into his juice last night. I think it was his way of revenge'.

'Revenge for?'

'I don't know okay? I try my best to stay out of my brothers businesses'.

As I drove into the parking lot, Katie texted to let us know she and Queenie were in front of my locker, we met them there and they began bugging me with questions about Friday night which I happily ignored.

'He's coming!' Queenie squealed.

I refused to look in the direction of the school's entrance but my little attempt at avoiding him didn't matter because he came and stood right before me with Jake behind him, trying not to look at Katie.

'Hey captain'. He began with his annoying smirk.

'Don't you think it's too early in the morning for me to be feasting my eyes on dickheads?' I said as the memory of him insinuating to my mom that I could be gay came to my mind.

'Awwn. You call me such nice names'.

'Oh really? How about nicer names like asswipe, shithole, organic barf?'

'All good babe'. His expression never changed but something seemed off with him today.

Yes something always seem off with the guy but today it was a little bit more noticeable in his face. I wanted to ask if he was okay but quickly thought against it and pushed past him to my class.

Our table was unusually quiet during lunch. Usually Queenie would be going on about everything but today her attention was fixed on her phone.

Pokello was outside talking to Greg on the phone about getting into another fight. Katie concentrated on eating her cheeseburger, she's the only one amongst us who naturally appreciates silence.

I feel eyes looking in our direction and I turned to see Zayn staring at Katie, well that's unusual. He looked from Katie to Jake who was sitting beside him then he went back to eating his lunch.

Jake, I had thought he was cool when he started dating Katie but the asshole just had to cheat on her.

Katie puts up a strong front but I know she was deeply hurt by that, she had had dreams for both of them.

The bell went and I hurried to my next class. I kept staring at the clock and wishing for school to be over soon so I could go and see Travis.

I would've texted him but I had been too shy to ever ask for his number because I didn't want him to pick up on the crush I had on him and the fool never asked for my number either.

The bell sounded; last period, good, just a few more minutes.

I got into literature class and settled down, ignoring the rest of my classmates, not like they were bothered. I was the skinny scary basketball captain nobody wanted to cross thanks to my skill in slamming jerks into lockers.

I got out the book we had been working on 'Alive'.

I really did like the book but I didn't think it was appropriate for school because of the little tips it gave on how to be a great killer but Mrs Woodley insisted it gave us an insight into a psychopath's mind, made it easier for us to identify murderers and showed us that the bad guys always got caught.

I thought it just made it clearer that anyone could be mentally deranged and no one would notice.

'Did you say something Zayn?' Mrs Woodley said dragging me out of my thoughts.

'I was just saying how the main character reminds me so much of someone'. Zayn said, wearing a serious face that masked the mischief in his eyes.

'Really? Who? Maybe we could cast her for the play later in the semester'. She said looking genuinely interested and surprised that Zayn was participating in class. He was a star student but not very interactive in class.

'Meghan Summers right there. She has the stature, attitude, an innocent name, back it up with her sexuality and she's the full package. Minus the freaky hairstyle of course'.

He sent me that stupid smirk of his. My classmates started giving me weird looks.

The main character in the book was obviously bisexual but liked to call herself open-minded. Did I mention how much I hate Zayn Rodriguez?

'Haha. Very funny Rodriguez but maybe I should play the part and you get casted as one of the victims so I can slice your throat'.

Mrs Woodley gasped a little too loudly.

'Okay, enough jokes, back to the lesson'. She said quickly not liking the direction the class had taken.

Practice lasted only 45mins, the season had not yet begun but coach like to have us practice round the year to stay fit and not get rusty.

Pokello and I rode down to her house after changing back to our regular clothes.

'Hey bro'. Tyler hailed the moment I walked into their house, he was watching a wrestling match on TV and grossly devouring a bowl of popcorn, he made popcorn look so ugly.

'Could you at least accord the popcorn some respect? Where's Travis?'

'I've always been disrespectful pal and the brut is at the back'. At the back? Isn't he supposed to be in bed? Sick? I made my way to the back of the house.

A ball was slammed into my face as soon as I opened the door. I can hear Travis laughing.

I looked up to see him wearing loose joggers and a tight tank top, whatever anger that had be building in me crumpled down to the pit of my stomach.

'I thought you suffered allergies, I can't find any bumps on your skin, you don't look like you've been vomiting, in fact you look more than perfectly fine'. I said crossing my arms across my chest.

'I recovered quickly'.

'Really? Leaving behind no traces of ailment in a matter of hours? I really look that dumb to you?'

He chuckled.

'Okay, it was just a ploy to get you here'.

'What if I decided not to come?'

'You wouldn't do that'. He came and stood before me with a confident grin on his face.

'You care about me too much'. He added.

'Cocky much?' He nodded.

'Be my girlfriend, Meg'.

'Excuse me?'

'I said be my girlfriend'.

'I heard you but you don't just say things like that out of the blue and why does it feel like you are not asking?'

'Because I'm not, you have to say yes'.

'Only if you score more hoops than me and promise to share all your hoodies'.

'Deal'.

I picked up the ball and ran to the court Pokello had them make scoring my first hoop. He snatched the ball and easily scored his.

We went back and forth like this till I got tired and let him win. Who was I kidding? I wanted to be his girlfriend afterall.

'Okay you win but I'm taking two sweatshirts as I leave'. He grabbed my waist.

'Okay girlfriend. God, I've waited so long to call you that'.

He lifted me up and I wrapped my legs around his waist. He stared at me with a look I couldn't decipher.

'If you are trying to be cheesy, stop. You know I hate cheese, just kiss me'.

'Aye aye captain'. He closed the space between us and I melted into him.

After a torturous lifetime of waiting I finally got what I wanted, I didn't want to break the kiss but my body was crying for it's basic need, air. I slowly pulled away and rested my forehead against his.

We turned our heads to the door when someone began clapping, Tyler. Travis put me down.

'You got him bro! I always knew Trav was some closeted fag'.

'Don't ever use that word on me again'. Tyler said getting really pissed.

'Or what bro?'

'I mean it Tyler'.

'You still don't know how to take a joke'. Tyler said before delivering a light punch to my shoulder.

'If he ever hurts you, sneak honey into his coffee'. I laughed.

'Get out of here loser'. Travis said, smiling a little as Tyler went back inside.

'You'll never do that right?' He grabbed my waist again, I was already liking the feeling a lot.

'I just might but you'll never hurt me right?' I said teasingly.

He just might.
