“Please let me explain everything. David’s voice sounded far away now. Like I was underwater. Like my entire body had stopped functioning properly after hearing too many terrible truths at once.

I remained on the bathroom floor trembling violently while tears and humiliation burned through my chest. My wedding dress still hung beautifully against my body, but now it felt disgusting.

Like I had worn innocence into a marriage built entirely on lies.Behind me, David sighed heavily.

“Mira.

“Did you sleep with Sarah too?”

The silence that followed nearly killed me. I slowly lifted my head. David’s face changed instantly. Not anger. Not confusion. Fear. Pure fear. My stomach dropped violently. “Oh my God.” “No,” he said quickly. “No, it’s not like that.” “But something happened.”

“Mira

“Something happened!” I screamed.

David cursed softly under his breath before pacing away from the bathroom entrance. His expensive shoes echoed against the marble floor while my heart pounded harder and harder.

“She kissed me once,” he admitted finally. The room spun

“What?”

“It was before we got serious.” My breathing became uneven again. “When?” I whispered weakly.

“A few months before our engagement.” I stared at him in horror.

Sarah. My cousin. The same cousin who helped me choose my wedding dress. The same cousin who smiled in all my wedding photos. The same cousin who stood beside me while I married him. I suddenly couldn’t breathe properly.

“And you hid that too?” “It meant nothing.” “You keep saying that!” I cried. “Everything means nothing to you after you lie about it!”David’s jaw tightened. “She came onto me.” I laughed bitterly through tears. “Wow.” “I rejected her.”

“But you still kept it secret from me.”

“She begged me not to tell you because she said it would destroy your relationship with her.”

My chest tightened painfully. So Sarah knew. She knew about him. About the lies. About everything. And still watched me walk down that aisle. Fresh tears spilled down my cheeks uncontrollably.

“I trusted both of you.” David moved closer carefully. “Mira, please…” “Don’t come near me.” He stopped immediately. For a second neither of us spoke. The only sound was my shaky breathing and the distant city noise outside the giant windows. Then suddenly.

David’s phone vibrated again. Both of us looked toward the sink counter instantly. Sarah Calling. I froze completely. David looked horrified. The room went dead silent. Slowly. Very slowly I stood up from the bathroom floor. “Answer it.”

“Mira, this isn’t the right time.”

“ANSWER IT.”

David hesitated. That hesitation alone destroyed another piece of me. Finally, he answered. “Hello?” Sarah’s voice came through immediately. Panicked.

“David, where are you?!” His expression darkened. “Why are you calling me?” “Because she found out!” My heartbeat stopped. David glanced at me quickly. “Lower your voice.”

“No!” Sarah snapped. “You promised me you would tell her carefully!” I felt physically sick. Promised?

PROMISED?

My legs weakened again. David ran his hand through his hair roughly. “Sarah.  “She called me crying!” Sarah continued frantically. “Her mother is involved now!” David’s face drained of color.

“What?”

“She knows about the boy!” The boy. The boy. The boy. The words echoed violently inside my skull. I grabbed the edge of the wall for support.

David lowered his voice dangerously. “Who told her mother?” I don’t know! But Auntie was screaming on the phone saying this marriage was cursed from the beginning!” Cursed. Tears blurred my vision again.

David noticed my expression immediately. Mira, listen to me But I couldn’t hear him anymore. My mind was breaking apart piece by piece. The wedding. The lies. Sarah. The child. Everything suddenly felt fake. Like I had married into a nightmare pretending to be love.

Then Sarah spoke again. And this time. She completely destroyed me. “Does Mira know the child is sick?” The room froze. Every single thing inside me stopped moving. I slowly turned toward David. His face went pale instantly. No.No no no.There was more. There was always more.

“What does she mean?” I whispered. David remained silent. My voice cracked violently.

“WHAT DOES SHE MEAN?!”

Sarah suddenly went quiet on the phone too. David closed his eyes painfully. “Mira. I stepped backward slowly. Fear crawled through my chest now. Real fear. The kind that makes your entire body cold. “Why is the child sick?” David looked like he was struggling to breathe. And somehow.

That terrified me even more. Finally, he whispered the words that shattered the last part of my sanity. Because he needs surgery.”I stared at him blankly.

“What?”

David’s voice broke slightly now. He’s been in and out of hospitals for months.”  My heart dropped violently. And you knew?” “Yes.” “You knew…” I repeated weakly. Tears filled my eyes again. “You knew there was a child out there suffering while you married me?” “It’s complicated!”

“STOP SAYING THAT!”

My scream echoed violently across the suite again. David grabbed my arms suddenly before I collapsed. “Mira, calm down!” “Don’t touch me!” I struggled against him desperately. “You used me!” I cried hysterically. “Was that why you married me?!”

David froze. That tiny pause. That horrible tiny pause. Was enough. My face lost all color. “Oh my God “Mira, no.”“You married me because of money.” “No!”

“THEN WHY DID YOU FREEZE?!”

David looked trapped now. Cornered. Sweat glistened across his forehead while panic filled his eyes. And that was when I realized something horrifying. There were still secrets he hadn’t told me. Even now. Even after all this. The room suddenly felt too small. Too hot. Too dangerous. Then. Someone knocked loudly on the suite door. Three hard knocks.

David and I both froze instantly. Another knock followed. Then a deep male voice spoke from outside. “Mr. David Cole?” David’s face changed immediately. Fear. Real fear. My stomach twisted violently. “Who is that?” I whispered.

David didn’t answer. The voice came again. “Sir, hotel security needs to speak with you immediately.” My heartbeat accelerated. Security? Why would hotel security be looking for him? David looked toward the door. Then toward me. Then his phone rang again. This time.

Not Sarah. Not the mysterious woman. An unknown number. David stared at the screen like death itself was calling him. Then the voicemail notification appeared automatically across the screen. And before he could stop it.

The voice message began playing aloud. A female voice. Crying violently.  “David please… our son collapsed again. The doctors said if we don’t get the money tonight, he might die.” The room went completely still. Then the voice whispered the final sentence.

And this time. It destroyed everything. “You promised you would use your wife’s family money to save him.” The room suddenly changed. No more tears to shade.

Why did David married me?

Mira’s POV}My entire body went numb. Sarah. How was she here? I slowly turned toward the hotel suite door. David’s face had lost every trace of color. “Mira, don’t open that door.” His voice was sharp.Desperate. Afraid. That alone made me want to open it. The knock came again. Three slow knocks. Then silence. “Mira,” Sarah called softly from outside. “Please. You need to hear me.”I looked at David. Then at the door. Then back at him. For the first time since our wedding, I didn’t know who to believe. My husband. Or my cousin. The woman trying to destroy my marriage. Or the man who seemed terrified of the truth. Every touch from him suddenly felt wrong. Every memory felt poisoned. Every smile. Every promise. Every “I love you.” All of it. A lie.“Mira. “Don’t.”My voice came out cold. Colder than I had ever sounded before. David swallowed. You need to let me explain.”Explain what?” I laughed bitterly. “Explain why you married me? Explain why sarah my cousin knew secrets I didn’t?
