Xavier's POV
My eyes trail the dilapidated apartment complex up to her floor's window. Good grief. My mind goes back to the newspaper article I had to bury a few hours ago.
These paparazzi are a pain in the ass.
Shaking the thought away, I lean against my new baby— a Bugatti La Voiture Noire as I wait patiently for her to come down.
Frankly, I thought she'd never show.
It's a good thing her heroic roommate stepped in for her or else I would be forced to look for someone different or, better yet, sedate and drag her ass to my parents' house

Zoey's POV My eyes flicker over to the brunette talking to Xavier. There is a slight resemblance between the two. Her expensive cocktail dress shimmers underneath the chandelier light. The loose bun on top of her head shakes as she chuckles. I used to be like that once, always dressed in fancy dresses, expensive shoes and accompanying my sister—well, foster sister—to various balls when I'd rather be cuddled up on the love seat reading cheesy romance novels. I stand there admiring the two talking about things my brain can't bother to comprehend. Mostly, I don't want to eavesdrop. He obviously loves his sister and mother, good to know he has a liking for something other than the f
Zoey's POV "So, let's start from the beginning, shall we?" Xavier says, leaning in towards me and folding his hands in his lap."My mom is a former model, she traveled the globe making money that can last a lifetime and wanted my sister, Alexandra, to follow in her footsteps and carry on the legacy. Alex wants to be a dentist so she is currently studying at UW School of Dentistry here in Seattle." That's why she looked like a professional model to me. She obviously got it from her mother. Who would have thought she wanted to be a dentist. Now I feel awful and, frankly, dumb for forgetting to do a little research in advance about his family. It won't be relevant now as I won't see them again, which is a good thing. "W
Zoey's POV "So Tia, how long have you two been together?" Natasha breaks the eerie silence surrounding the three of us. Everyone at the table went back to talking and laughing, making it seem as if they didn't witness the... whatever that was a minute ago. Maybe they are used to it or something. How on earth does she even know my name? And what did she mean by she expected a lot more? I can only think of one name: Xavier. Of course, she's a family friend so she must've heard about the engagement, but he said they were sleeping together. Did his parents know about it? You know what? Not my problem. Once this is over, it won't ever be.
Zoey's POV "What the hell Kat?!" I clench my hand over my chest, crumpling the dress in the process. "You nearly gave me a heart attack!" What the hell is wrong with people trying to kill me tonight?! "Sorry, but you knew I'd be up waiting." I roll my eyes at the absurd statement. She is right, I knew but what I didn't know was that she would scare me like this. "So how was it? Was it dirty?" "You're unbelievable, you know that right?" I say as I get up off the floor. Sighing, I walk over to sit beside her. "What happened?" she asks, climbing over to me, concern evident in her v
Zoey's POV "So, where do you want to start Ms. Saunders?" The man asks, reclining back into his chair. He's way too calm and in control. I wonder if it is his first time doing something like this— getting married to a stranger just to save his share of the companies. Mhm. He really wants to secure his legacy. "Um, elaborate more on the whole fiancée thing." I am unsure of what to say and where to start. This is not official, certain or anything. I'm just merely testing the waters, I repeat to myself. "Well, first of all, there's a written contract—" "A contract?"
Xavier's POV I maneuver the car off the busy street and into the small parking lot of my favorite fast food joint. Finding an empty spot, I hop out at the same time as Zoey. Originally I had a lunch reservation at a top-end restaurant but canceled at the last minute since I have a craving for a real cheeseburger and shake, not foreign chicken. I also wanted to check on the place, it had been a while since I've been. My eyes dart around the surroundings as we both walk in silence up to the entrance. The outside looks better— way better— than the last time I was here. I'm glad they're putting the money to good use. The bell rings as we enter the now air conditioned building.
Zoey's POV I step into the apartment, closing the door behind me after Mr. Danvers dropped me off a minute or two ago. I shake my head remembering the conversation at that diner. At least I got to know two major details about him. He has no favorite colour and he's a fucking asshole. I can't believe he suggested... He's so impossible! I set down the folder on the couch before going into the kitchen with the lunch I got from the diner. I really don't feel like going into my room, at least not now.
Zoey's POV I stare over at the contract on the table as if I expect it to pounce on me at any moment. Maybe it will and I would deserve the scratches I get.I can't believe that I recklessly signed the paper. How can I be so stupid and impulsive? I've been sitting here for almost half an hour now. I gingerly sip my second cup of coffee as I try to conjure up ways to get my signature off the immaculate paper. I thought of everything from white-out to markers to disfiguring it but came up with nothing. Everything I came up with is between childish and downright stupid. I can't believe I'm agreeing to this. I must be outta my mind. I'm just elated that Kat's still asleep. She had the day off. Today's Sunday meaning that tomorrow she will be leaving. I don't thin
