Freddy's Pov

The sound of the pen scratching against paper was the only thing that filled my office. I appended my signature on a page, then flipped. Appended again, another agreement finalised.

I sighed.

The pile of documents in front of me represented months of negotiations, acquisitions, and carefully orchestrated moves.

A prime property downtown which now belonged to the Montgomery Grand. It was a victory on paper but I felt hollow within me.

I scrawled my last signature, dropped the pen, and leaned back in my chair. The leather creaked as I exhaled, running a hand through my hair. A glass of scotch sat untouched on the desk. I picked it up and stood, carrying it with me toward the floor-to-ceiling window.

The city stretched out beneath me. It was alive and bright with street lights, neon lights on signboards and cars snaking along streets.

I sipped the scotch, enjoying the burn as it ran down my throat. But it did nothing to help the ache and emptiness in my chest.

  • Being Mr CEO's Bride   Chapter 146

Kaelia's POV The car ate up the road in long, steady stretches of silence. Freddy hadn’t said another word after telling me we were going somewhere to be alone, and I hadn’t dared to push him again. Instead, I chose to sit quietly. The quiet wasn’t empty. It was filled with the sound of his breath.I listened to it like it was some music. I pressed my hands together in my lap, palms damp, fingers restless, trying to focus on the city lights flashing against the glass. But every time I thought I’d found something to anchor me, my mind spun back to him. On the way, he was focused on the road as if he was locked in some private war. I wanted to ask again. I wanted to demand answers. But my voice felt like it was caught in my throat, trapped by fear and anticipation and something else I couldn’t name. The streets grew quieter as we drove and the lights faded. My chest tightened. This wasn’t the way back to the mansion. This wasn’t familiar at all.“Where… are we?” I whispered befo

  • Being Mr CEO's Bride   Chapter 145

Kaelia's POV “Come with me,” he said. His voice was low but there was something about it that made it impossible for me to say no. I barely had time to think before his hand closed around, warm and familiar in a way that made my heart race. Freddy didn’t give me space to argue, didn’t wait for me to catch up. He just held on, and I followed.I glanced back once toward the dance floor where TJ and Michelle were still dancing with her head thrown back and his hands on her waist. But then I turned away. I let Freddy guide me through the throng of people, while my pulse raced recklessly, thumping so loud I swore he could hear it.And my heart beat on instinct. When we reached the cool night air outside, it hit me all at once, Freddy still didn’t release my hand. He led me straight to his car waiting in the dark. He stopped only to pull open the door for me.For a moment I froze, staring at him. His eyes met mine, and there was nothing soft about them. They were unreadable but intense

  • Being Mr CEO's Bride   Chapter 144

Freddy's Pov At first, I thought my eyes were playing tricks on me. Maybe all the alcohol had gotten to me.Maybe my mind was conjuring her up like it had done too many nights when I closed my eyes and imagined her beside me, but no, the longer I stared the clearer it became, it was her, it was Kaelia. My chest tightened, the glass in my hand forgotten, as I leaned forward just to be sure, because I had not seen her in what felt like forever. And there she was standing in the middle of this crowded, chaotic club like she owned the air around her.She looked breathtaking, glowing in a way that made my pulse skip. It was the kind of glow that no one should be allowed to see but me. Her skimpy outfit clung to her curves like it was specifically made for her. Her legs were bare and endless, and it made my blood boil because every man here could see them. There were two people with her, a man and a woman. I had seen the woman a few times at the Grand. I watched as they walked into on

  • Being Mr CEO's Bride   Chapter 142

Kaelia's POV By the time the clock struck nine, I was already dressed and my face was beet-red. My reflection in the mirror almost startled me. I was in a skimpy black skirt clinging to me like a second skin, my makeup was on point and heels that made my legs look longer than I remembered. For once, I didn’t want to look like the beaten-down version of myself. Tonight, I wanted to look untouchable, even if it was all pretend. When Rachelle saw me, her grin was so wide it nearly split her face. “Yes, girl! That’s what I’m talking about.”TJ raised his brows but didn’t comment, just handed me his jacket with a dry, “In case you get cold. Or in case some idiot tries something.”We left together, and soon the hum of the city swallowed us.The club was alive the moment we stepped inside – music thumping through the floors, lights pulsing in colours that shifted too fast. Heat and perfume mingled in the air, and everywhere, bodies moved in rhythm. We slid into a booth in one of the side

  • Being Mr CEO's Bride   Chapter 141

Demitra's Pov Tilting my head slightly, I slid into the car, the aftertaste of victory still bubbling through me. I could not stop the smile that formed on my face as the car engine roared to life and the car pulled away from the coffee shop. Pity, I could not see the look on Kaelia's face when Marlena terminated her employment – which I was sure would happen. Poor, foolish Kaelia. I crossed my legs gracefully, as the driver pulled into the flow of traffic. My hand absently trailed over the faint sting of the scratch on my arm. A small price to pay for such a satisfying outcome. Besides, pain was temporary. What mattered was control. And right now, I have all of it.Leaning back against the seat, I allowed myself a small, self-indulgent laugh. “One piece off the board,” I murmured. “Check.”But as the car turned around the corner, my smile wavered ever so slightly. A gnawing thought slipped in; was it enough?Because no matter how cleverly I played the game, no matter how many t
