Kaelia's POV

The shot rang out like a crack of thunder.

The music stopped. So did the laughter.

Then came the screaming. Glasses shattered as people ran for cover.

Someone knocked over a table, and the wine spilt onto the floor.

I stood frozen, my ears ringing from all the noise.

My heartbeat thundered in my chest, and my throat felt tight.

Just then, I felt someone grab me.

“Lily,” Freddy’s voice rang out of the chaos.

Before I could respond, he yanked me down to the ground, pulling me behind one of the overturned tables.

His body covered mine, shielding me from the unknown threat. I crouched behind him, ignoring the sting from scraping my knee on the floor.

And that's when I saw it.

The blood spread through the arm of his shirt, vivid and red, in sharp contrast with his crisp shirt.

My eyes widened.

“Freddy, you're hurt,” I gasped, my eyes wide, “Oh my God, you're bleeding…”

My eyes found the hole where the bullet had pierced.

He adjusted to shield me more, “Hey, it's okay. Don'

Kaelia's POV WARNING!!!THIS CHAPTER CONTAINS EXPLICIT SEXUAL CONTENT. READERS DISCRETION IS ADVISED.Emboldened, I slid my fingers higher and higher, watching his expression.Eventually, his hand slid under the table, and he gripped my wrist. Enough. The meeting finally came to an end, and he stood up slowly. He said thank yous, shook hands, and in a few minutes, I had his undivided attention. His other hand found mine, and he held on to it until we were out the door. He was on me the second the car door shut behind him.He didn't get into the driver's seat. No. He climbed into the back with me.“Freddy,” I said in a tone that was supposed to be scolding. His lips came down on mine, silencing me. Hard. Desperate. Like he would tear me apart in search of more. His hands were everywhere – my breasts, my waist, my hips.He pulled my dress down, my breasts coming into view. With his eyes trained on mine, he took a nipple in his mouth. He played with it a bit, then he trailed kisses u

Kaelia's POV Freddy picked me up that day by himself. He said the driver took a break, and it had been a while since he got behind the wheel. While he drove, I sat in silence, my mind still tangled up in Lilyanna's words.I remembered how I had met her and the one million ways that day could have gone differently.I squeezed my eyes shut at the memory of her asking me to fix her mess. Like it was just some little favour between friends. As if the mess she had gotten herself into was not hers to fix.A secret marriage with a man like that was news that people would milk. And she wanted me to take the heat while she coasted back into the light.“I hate it when you're awfully quiet like that,” Freddy said, looking at me from the side view mirror. Our eyes met, but I looked away, not knowing what to say.He didn’t press, but the silence that followed felt thick with things unsaid.I leaned against the cool window, but it didn't do anything to help the heat in my body at that moment.Whe

Kaelia's POV Hearing those words, my heart began beating faster. The last time she had dropped a bomb on me, it had come without warning. Now, I wondered how bad this could be, that she was even offering a warning. She twisted her fingers, pursing her lips for a moment as if trying to gather the courage to speak.“I’m …married,”“Excuse me?”“I'm married, Kaelia. I have a baby on the way,”My eyes widened.“You're pregnant?”She giggled, “Yes, I've already chosen a name for her.”“Her? You're that far gone to know the sex?”“No, silly. I'm just hoping it's a girl. I want a little best friend.”I shook my head. Lilyanna was full of surprises, but the last thing I expected to hear from her on a Monday evening was that she was pregnant. My eyes travelled from her still flat stomach, then back to her smiling face.“How long have you been married?”“A little over two years now.” A cold laugh escaped my lips. “You have to be joking,”“I'm not.”I held her eyes for a moment, trying to fin

Kaelia's POV The little break finally came to an end. To be honest, I was more than ready to go home.Apart from getting closer to Freddy and meeting Sandie, I couldn't think of anything else I loved about the resort. I was not going to miss the infinity pool or the passive-aggressive brunch either.Despite myself, I missed the Montgomery Grand. It was a feeling I did not expect, but as Freddy and I walked through the airport to our private terminal hand in hand, I realised I missed the buzz. I forgot my job. I missed Rachelle and Asher.I missed it all.But right now, all I wanted was to be in the quiet, safe walls of Freddy's mansion. I wanted to shut out the world and just rest.*****Monday Morning.Once again, I was back to being a guest representative. But I was not complaining. As I walked down the marble hallway, I heard a little sniff, teary sniff. At first, I expected it to be one of those moody influencers who cried over nothing for views. But when I turned, it was a

  • Being Mr CEO's Bride   Chapter 76

Kaelia's POV He leaned in closer to me, tracing the outline of my face with his fingers. “There was one time I was very much involved in car races. It was exciting. I won every single time. Then, one day, we took a path, and as usual, I was coming in first. Well, that was before a skunk came in my way out of nowhere,” He said, “I was not expecting it, so I swerved a little too hard and my car fell off a cliff.”I gasped.“My car was very damaged, and luckily for me, I came out with only a broken leg and a deep cut,”He lifted his arm to show me a scar I had not seen before. I ran my fingers around it. “I'm sorry about that,”He smiled, kissed me, then continued, “After my mom died, I gave up on living. What was it for? The person my life revolved around was gone. So I went off the hook.”“I started drinking—heavy drinking. But drinking was not enough. So I moved on to harder things,” He said, “Pills. Powder. Anything that took the edge off. I was a fucking disaster. I wanted to be
