Amos’ POV
“What have I done?” I thought as I took off my clothes, transforming into my wolf form. Running into the woods, I sought sanctuary in my den. It held so many memories not just of me but those of my lover, my wife, and my mate. I hated to think of her as dead, gone, out of reach and I have lived my life like she was here, like she wasn't gone, never in all these years have done something like I did tonight. A few years, months, weeks, and even days from now I was not in any way open to the idea of another mate, it had never once crossed my mind but tonight, I not only found my new mate but I already marked and mated with her. “Damn it,” I roared as I increased my pace, finding this cave was proving harder today, even my nose had lost the scent of it. I kept running and running but it was useless I was going around in circles. “Arhhhhhggg!!!” I screamed as I brought myself to a halt. Sitting on top of a rock and staring at the moon, I struggled to calm my still heavy breathing. Thinking back at everything that had happened in the last week, I struggled to make sense of the different scenarios that led to where things were right now. It all started when this strange human became Angie's tutor, I could perceive her scent from my room and I knew she was human, I came to find out what was going on and I bumped into her. “Avery, meet my Father, Mr. Amos,” I remember Angie said as she introduced her to me. There was definitely something different about her and that was all the more reason I couldn't trust her. I watched her for a while, a week to be precise, she taught Angie so well and I couldn't find a fault in her, I decided to stay clear from her after our encounter in my office. She had clearly lost her way to the kitchen and ended up in my office, one minute I was looking at her, and the next minute, I pinned her against the wall, her scent was unmistakable and I needed a better sniff. “My goodness,” I whispered as just the memory of her did wonders to my body, more especially in wolf form. Tonight was entirely something else, I couldn't leave her side, I needed to be close to her, I made several excuses to stay by her side, shocked that she could bake. “How many things could she do?” I thought in perplexity. I watched her dance and bake, she seemed to have really loved baking and I wondered why she left her job in that bakery. All that flour and butter, but nothing could hide her scent, my control was snapping, I couldn't help it, I watched her body move from one side to another, her breast giggled and my mouth was watering, I caught myself drooling so many times. “Get yourself together,” I admonished myself so many times but nothing helped. My wolf was going crazy on the inside, he needed to have his mate, it had been too long a time and he needed release. I didn't know when I lost it, before I knew what was happening I was biting down on her neck and claiming her as mine, her body felt so soft, so perfect and she was mine, I took her again and again, I couldn't get enough, I didn't even know how long it was but I didn't stop until my wolf had enough. “So beautiful, so perfect,” I whispered and my wolf yearned for more. When it was done, I came to my senses, I had mated with someone else for the first time in years, I felt like I had betrayed my first love but that pain didn't run as deep as the pain I felt when I remembered that she was human. Half-human, full-human, in my dictionary, it meant the same thing, I couldn't believe she had to be the one. One from the lot I despise, the people I hate so much. “Why did it have to her,” I roared into the darkness and my voice echoed back from between the trees. I remember my wife, my lover, she was my whole world, we were high school lovers, we mated at a very young age and she helped me all the way, she believed in me when no one else did, and she gave me two wonderful children and we had a perfect family, she always told me I would be alpha no matter what but she didn't stay to see me live her dream. “These cursed humans,” I screamed in anger as I remembered how she died. Suddenly something strange began to happen, my memories became foggy, I couldn't make out her face anymore and every time I tried to think of her, it was Avery's face I saw, she was fading away from my memories and Avery was replacing her. “No!!!” I screamed but there was nothing I could do, it was beyond my control. This was my wolf telling me that I could no longer hold anyone but Avery as my mate, my wolf had chosen her for some reason and that was never going to change. As I struggled to accept all that was happening and this new development, I began to rethink everything that had happened tonight, she had saved Angie from being embarrassed, had made cakes and pastries on emergency when she was supposed to be enjoying the party and how did I repay her? Memories of what happened after we mated flooded my mind, it was her first time but my wolf wasn't patient enough to take it easy on her, she let me in, and she let me take her, claim her but after I did… I rejected her and ran away like a fool. “I have to find her,” I said as I thought of the implication of what I had done, it was all me, I went to her and claimed her and now I had to take responsibility. I began to run back to the castle with greater speed than I had left, hoping she was still at the anniversary.Avery's Point Of View “You shouldn't have come here,” he whispered weakly, his eyes barely open.“What do you mean?” I asked confusedly, my mind in shambles.I had been looking for Amos the whole time; he even called out to me in my dreams.I didn't understand why he was driving me away now.I waited for a response, for him to say something that made sense at least, but he didn't speak.I tried to touch him, but he pulled away like I had some contagious virus. My heart was shattered, my mind in shambles, and I didn't know what to think or believe.“Don't waste your life-source on me,” he finally said calmly, his eyes distant. He didn't look shocked that I could heal him; he already knew.“You knew who I was and my destiny, didn't you?” I asked calmly, hoping he would prove me wrong.“Yes,” he said dryly, his eyes looking everywhere but at me.I wanted to scream about his betrayal, hit him, do something to let out the pain and anger I was feeling. But just then, we heard something e
Avery's Point Of View “That's his blood,” I said calmly, my eye steady on the ground.“Are you sure?” Angie asked silently, her eyes fixed on me.I didn't respond to her; I didn't have to because the men ran in front of us, following the trail I had given them.Walking behind were Angie and Quinn, staying awkwardly by my side.“Avery, I'm sorry about lashing out,” Angie finally said, her voice coming out as a whisper.“No, you are not,” I responded firmly, increasing my pace.I was done with the excuses and her unnecessary apologies.“No, please…wait,” she called after me, but Quinn held her back.I was more concerned about the fact that Amos was actually nowhere to be found than all her stupidity.I was sending them on a wild goose chase because I suspected that they weren’t good people, and the reason they wanted to find Amos wasn't an honest one either.I had to keep them distracted while I formulated a real plan.Night came quickly, and we eventually had to stop at a nearby cave
Avery’s Point Of View“He is here somewhere, I am sure of it,” I said confidently, as we searched through the forest. We had been searching for three days with no sign of Amos, and the men with us had started to become tired.I had trailed his scent for days and ended up on two different wild goose chases, but I was sure this time.It was as if Amos had intentionally made it very difficult to find him, and it was making me lose my mind.“Cover the entire area,” Quinn ordered anxiously, running his hand through his hair. The day before, he had been spiralling, imagining the worst when another day had passed without finding Amos.It took Angie and a lot of effort to calm him down. Both he and Angie carried a strange sense of guilt, blaming themselves for everything that had happened so far.A part of me wanted to comfort them and tell them it wasn't their fault, but I wasn't delusional; it was partly their fault, and that couldn't be denied. If they hadn't sided with the enemies thing w
Amos' Point Of View Seize him!” A woman ordered again, as the men began to close in on me.I looked around me, and I was grossly outnumbered.I didn't know whether to run or fight; I didn't even know if escape was possible.“What do you want from me?” I asked calmly, looking at the woman who seemed to be their ring leader. As if I didn't know what all of this was about.“You hold the second key,” she said flatly, looking bored.“Hand it over and go your way,” she said quietly, stretching her hand towards me.“You think if I really did, you would be able to catch me?” I asked calmly, unfazed by her offer.Something flashed in her eyes, a look of uncertainty; it happened so fast I almost missed it.I took a deep breath. I still had hopes of turning things around.“What do you mean?” She asked curiously, looking confused. My assumption was right; she didn't know what the key looked like.Maya had made the mistake of sending her out blindly, a mistake that would cost her.“You don't know
Avery's Point Of View Morning came faster than usual. I didn't know if it was because I didn't get a wink of sleep or something else. They had all left the cave to me, giving me enough space to rest, but sleep was far from me.“Avery! It's Ashley, can I come in?” Her voice came from the opening of the cave.“Sure,” I managed to respond, still sitting at the same spot she had left me the day before.“You didn't sleep as well, I see,” she said calmly, seeming unsurprised to find me exactly as she had left me.“Why didn't you sleep, though?” I asked her curiously, my eyes piercing hers.“I am scared,” she admitted quietly, lowering her eyes.“We used to be a happy family, I used to have my father and brother, but I decided to play a little game, and it's costing us everything,” she whispered softly, tears welling up in her eyes.“I don't understand,” I said honestly, running my hand through my hair.“I knew…I knew from the moment you stepped into my house, I knew exactly who you were…”
Avery's Point of View “I shouldn't do this,” I said softly, my hands shaking. I opened the letter, but there was nothing written in it. I looked at it for a long time, almost as if I was lost in a trance. “Run!!!” A voice ordered, sending shivers down my spine. I looked around to see if anyone was there, but found no one. “Run!!! The voice came again, more urgent than before. And for some reason, I was convinced that I should listen, so I did. I ran out of the room the seer had told me to wait in straight to Ashley, praying she was still under the tree. “Wait,” I said desperately, making her halt in her tracks. I was out of breath, my hands shaking as I reached for her. “Let's go together,” I said calmly, my eyes filled with determination. She didn't say another word, just grabbed my hand, shifted to her werewolf form, threw me on her back, and ran. Faster than I have ever seen, almost too fast even for me. “Get down,” she said quietly, as her pace slowed to a halt. I
