I decided to speak up.

“Nathan,” I warned, but he wasn’t listening. He never did when he was like this.

Luca stepped closer. “You’ve got something to say, say it.”

Nathan laughed. “Oh, I do. But I’m not sure she should hear it.”

He glanced at me, and it wasn’t anger I saw in his eyes. It was something more dangerous.

“I’m not leaving,” I said quietly.

Luca turned to me, his voice clipped. “You don’t have to listen to this.”

“She should,” Nathan hissed. “She needs to.”

“You don’t get to decide that,” Luca snapped.

“And you do?”

“Stop it,” I said, but even as I did, I didn’t rise. I didn’t move. My voice lacked weight.

Because something in me wanted this to unfold. Something in me wanted to see. There were both hiding something. I wanted to find out.

“You act like you’re some silent guardian,” Nathan said, stepping forward. “But you’re not. You’re hiding something, Luca.”

Luca didn’t flinch. “And what are you hiding, Nathan? Other than your jealousy.”

Nathan’s fist clenched. “Jealous?

Luca's mask dropped, but it was just for a second. His eyes went glassy. His throat moved like he was swallowing down barbed wire. “I… I can’t give you the full truth. Not yet, Mira.”My brows furrowed, heart beginning to pound again. “But you just said…”“I’m sorry,” he whispered, stepping closer. “What I can tell you is... I did something… but it was long time ago, before I even met you. I was trying to protect someone I loved, but… it put you in danger.”“What does that mean?” My voice trembled now. “Why would you hide something like that?”“Because if you knew... you might hate me.”His hand brushed my wrist, and suddenly, the silence between us wasn’t just about fear—it was about all the things left unsaid.I didn’t pull away.He stepped closer. “Please believe me when I say that whatever I did… it was before I knew you. Before I knew what this was.. before you and… us.”I blinked against the sting in my eyes. “I do believe you,” I said softly. He exhaled, like a man barely holdi

My lips parted. “Who are you?”She tilted her head. “You already know.”True to her words, somewhere deep in me… I did.The words came out slowly. “You’re the child… the one from the vision. The child of dusk and dawn.”She nodded once.I swallowed. “What does that mean?”She stepped closer. “I was born of two fading lights. One that dies each morning. One that disappears each night.”I frowned. “Sun and moon?”She gave a small shrug. “Something like that.”Her voice was gentle, but not soft. It held weight and depth, as if she was far older than she looked.“You don’t belong to this world,” I whispered.“Neither do you.”That made me take a step back. Her eyes didn’t follow me. Instead, she reached out and pressed a hand to the air, where a strange rune appeared, glowing gold and silver.“This path will find you again,” she said. “When you’re ready.”“For what?” I asked.“To face the end.”My throat tightened. “You mean Alexa.”She smiled again. This time, sad. “You can’t win alone,

I held my breath, my eyes slowly trailing the writing.“If you are reading this, then the book has accepted you… as it once did me.”My throat closed up. I had so many questions. Too many, but I kept reading, desperate, as though the ink might vanish at any moment.“There is one more key, Mira… one you must find if you are to stand against her. Alexa’s power cannot be shattered by might alone. You will need the lost one. The child of dusk and dawn. You’ll know them when the time comes.”The child of dusk and dawn?I frowned, the words spinning through my head like leaves caught in a storm. Who could that be? What did it even mean?As if my confusion wasn't enough, the final lines hit like a blade to the gut.“But be warned, Mira. The one who stands beside you with loyalty may one day stand against you by destiny. Even love cannot shield you from fate.”The world tilted.I stared at the message, my stomach churning. The fire beside me snapped and hissed, as if it, too, heard the warnin

The figure didn’t answer, but her eyes glowed, fierce and full of sorrow."The book gives," she said, voice distant like a forgotten song, "but it also takes. Every power has a cost. Choose your path wisely, Mira. Not all victories come clean."Before I could reach her, the vision shattered. I gasped, falling back into myself, the clearing around me spinning.I was drenched in sweat. The book lay closed beside me, still glowing softly. I should have been afraid. But I wasn't. Instead, I was furious."If you're going to show me something, show me everything," I hissed.I opened the book again, determination clawing through my veins. This time, it showed me how to call to the earth. Not in words, but in feeling. My veins hummed with raw energy. I could sense the roots under the soil, the whisper of stone, the heaviness of the world waiting to answer. I stood and extended a hand, closing my eyes.Rise.The ground trembled slightly beneath my feet. Dirt shifted. A small rock near my boots

We prepared the ritual with what we had—my blood, the symbol in my hand, the old sigils sketched into the earth from the book. Nathan guided me as I chanted the words I'd heard, his arms steady even as his eyes glistened with fear. When the final word left my lips, the glow surged around me. For one moment, I felt everything. The seal, the danger, the power… all at once. Somehow, I felt the girl I used to be fading behind the woman I had to become. It was overwhelming.Luca returned shortly after, probably from keeping watch. I didn't mention the dream or the ritual, Nathan didn't either. Luca, however, noticed the atmosphere was tense, I knew because he asked.“Anything happened while I was away?" His tone was calm, but his eyes weren't.I shook my head. I didn't want to talk about it.His eyes narrowed on me. "Why you awake then? Mira, talk to me.”I shook my head again. "Really, nothing happened, Luca. I just woke up and noticed you weren't back and decided to wait.” You didn't ha
