Another Pack

Another pack

Chapter 1

Her head aches as she tries to force her eyes open, but she end up shutting them again.

"Her eyelids are moving," A faint feminine voice sounds through her ears, and she finally forces her eyes open, staring up at the blurry ceiling.

"She's awake," Another faint voice says in her head, and as much as she wants to tilt her head to check who the voices belong to, she feels so weak to move her neck. Seconds slowly tick into minutes and her vision finally become clear.

Slowly, she tilts her head to her side, and a pair of hazel eyes welcome her.

"Mother, she's awake," The young lady sitting on the mat calls out to her mom, and soon a woman in her mid-sixties rushes in with a steamy bowl in her hands. Her face suddenly dilates excitedly as she rushes over to the lady lying on the mat. Dropping the bowl beside her on the floor, she quickly sits beside her and touches her forehead.

"Are you OK? Are you feeling pain anywhere? Are you hungry?" The woman keeps asking her questions while having an excited smile on her face.

She stares blankly at her, trying to process what's happening now. She has never seen this face all her life, and this place that she wakes up in now, she has never been here before. What's she doing here? How did she get here? What happened to her? Those are the questions that keep running through her mind as she tries to recall anything, but her head seems blank. She can't even recall who she is, or anything about her past life. What's going on?

"Who are you?" She finally asks out of the blue after a few minutes of silence, whilst staring at her questioningly.

"That's not necessary now. Are you hungry?" The woman asks, and she slowly shakes her head in denial. Although she's hungry, she doesn't even know these people, how's she supposed to eat from them? What if they're bad people?

"Are you OK?" The young lady about the same age as her, asks as she stares at her confusingly.

"Hmm," She slowly nods her head absentmindedly.

"How long have I been here?" She asks again with curiosity written all over her, and the mother and child both glance at each other.

"One week," Her eyes dilate in shock as she stares at the woman, unable to speak.

"What's your name?" The woman finally asks curiously, but she only stares back at her, still having that blank expression on her face. Of course, she doesn't even remember what her name was, and it's already driving her crazy. She closes her eyes and sighs briefly in frustration. She tries to recall anything about herself, but the more she tries to, the more her headaches, so she just gives up trying. At least for now.

"I don't know," She replies to the woman almost in a whisper, finally resting her back against the wall and burying her face in her palms. Staring at her skin that's just recovering from bruises, she can't help but question herself where all the bruises came from.

"What happened?" Finally raising her gaze to the woman, she asks again.

"Seven days ago, I went to the woods to find herb, and there, I found you lying helplessly covered in a pool of blood and with bruises all over your body..." The woman pauses and glances over at her daughter.

"I thought you were dead, but after I inspected your purse, you still had life in you, so I brought you here," The woman explains, while she just stares at her blankly. She tries to bring all the pieces together, hoping that it'll help her remember something, but her brain remains dumb. How can this be possible? How can she not remember anything, not even her name?

"Do you...really not remember anything?" Confused, the woman asks as she stares at her questioningly, and she slowly nods her head.

"You'll be fine. You should take your herb and focus on getting better for now. You'll be fine, OK?" The woman assures her, and she slowly nods her head, although she doesn't believe what she said. Taking the herb from her, she stares at her hesitantly as she contemplates whether to drink from the herb or not. What if she means her harm? What if this woman is after her life? What if she's just pretending to be nice? She asks herself as she stares at the black concoction in the bowl.

"Thank you," She says to the woman after she takes a sip from the concoction, handing it to her afterward.

"I'll prepare you something to eat. You stay with her, Athena. I'll be back," the woman says to her daughter before she walks away, leaving the two.

"Since you can't remember your name, do you mind choosing another name for now, until you remember your name?" Athena asks as she sits upright whilst facing her.

"Hmm," She hums as she nods her head slowly, although she doesn't know if this is going to be a good idea.

"How about Aurora? That name is so sweet, and I have always wished to have a sister that'll bear that. But you see, my mother is old and can't bear a child again, so I think we can be sisters. What do you think?" Athena tries to cheer her up and make the atmosphere lively, but she just stares back at her as if she's acting drama.

"Hmm," She only hums, and Athena smiles excitedly.

"Good. I'll call you Aurora henceforth, OK?" Athena utters, and she just nods her head.

She stares into space with many thoughts running through her mind. What happened to her? This is the question that keeps ringing in her head.

Two weeks later

Over the weeks, Aurora has tried to adapt to the new environment that she found herself. She has learned some things about the pack where she found herself, which was said to be Grave Claw pack, the wealthiest and most influenced pack in the werewolf realm, also ruled by a charming alpha, Lorenzo. She has also learned to accept her fate and the new family that has been so wonderful to her, but she still hasn't given up on knowing who she is, and what happened to her that made her end up here in the first place.

"Do you want to come with us to find herbs?" Athena asks as she wears her boot.

"No. I'll wait for you here," Aurora replies to her, and she snorts angrily. She wanted to go to the woods with her, but it seems like it was not going to happen. Athena and Aurora have developed this strong sisterly bond over the weeks that she has spent with them.

"Athena, come on. I'm waiting for you," Her mother's voice sounds from outside, and she storms out of the house without spending another second inside.

She sighs briefly after Athena is gone...
