LOGINKeira’s POV Hearing that single word set my heart racing. “M-Me?” My voice took on a disbelieving tone. “I have to admit,” Matthias spoke, his tone just as monotone and contained as it had been when he had explained the entire story of the surrogate. My throat tightened as I saw his gaze towards me take on a more assessing gaze, the cold, precise way a professional used to read others acted with a puzzle they wanted to solve. “My intentions for getting closer to you were not originally purely to get an heir from you.” I waited, because what else could I do? Deep down, my wolf was simultaneously excited and anxious. ‘Should we run? Is this going to put us in danger?’ my wolf continued to rant in my head through the mindlink and my fingers curled in on themselves, forming loosely held fists. Perhaps it was the way Matthias looked at me, or the intimidating aura he gave off throughout, and when it was focused on me, it felt like he wanted me dead. I swallowed. “What I
Keira’s POV My surprise only lasted a second. Then I realized in what state I was, and my entire body flushed scarlet. I had been rushing to have another shower and dress up before dinner to be a good enough hostess. After all, the presentation mattered. However I had only just gotten my underwear on when the knock on the door came. Throwing on the silk lounge robe also did very little. “It seems I have disturbed you,” I heard Matthias say, and I couldn’t even bear to look at him. I quickly turned to find something else, anything else at this point to cover myself with but suddenly my wrist was seized and he pulled me backwards. I nearly lost my footing as my back met the wall and his shadow fell over me. Damn. My breaths hitched and I looked up at him, fighting to keep myself from doing or saying anything that would give up my true feelings. Do not be flustered, I told myself over and over again with effort, and only after a second did I finally speak. “I was just dressing

Matthias’ POVThe trial came and went. And Charles was condemned to die by the executioner by midnight.Silas refused to attend, it was the last measure of mercy he could grant Charles after what he had done.Even as we left the City Council building, his hands shook.Daniel and Kael walked a step behind us.Many of the delegates and Alphas that attended were murmuring as we walked past. I chose to feign ignorance, focused on supporting my old friend, and ally.I even forgot to say goodbye to Reginald, but made a mental note to send an invitation to him for a meeting later. The evidence folder regarding the Greyhound Pack case had long been sealed, and the sky had grown unbelievably dull.Charles had not even pretended to be right. He did not plead not guilty. He admitted his crimes. But he had, at first, attempted to manipulate public opinion by focusing on Silas’ affair and how it affected him. But when Silas testified to his son killing his mother, the Luna of the Greyhound Pack, a
Matthias’ POVThe glass in my hand held some condensation, and I discreetly wiped my hand with a napkin as I dropped the half-full glass on the small coffee table beside her.I watched Keira blink.“Yes,” My tone was not pleased. She sensed it, and her eyes flickered to me, before looking around.“
Keira’s POVI stifled a yawn, feeling my stomach growl as I leaned back and sighed, watching everyone break after the meeting ended.“Here,” Brandon handed me a thermos which I took. The warmth from the thermos seeped into my palm, the scent of something chocolaty making my hunger soar.“Thanks,” I
Matthias’ POVThe traffic was not enough for me to concern myself with whether they would notice my maneuvering or not.Thank the Goddess I did not head straight to the private clinic.Since they wanted to try tailing me, I would show them the consequences of that. I began to chart, in my mind, a n
Keira’s POVStanding there in the entrance of the hall, I couldn't help but say those words.Matthias’ lips twitched at them, and I could tell he was hiding his amusement behind a thin vender of stoicism.“Perhaps a little bit of both,” he said in response. “He believes you should be grateful you
