Rachel had been planning this surprise for weeks, and she couldn't wait to see the look on her husband's face when she walked into his office. She made her way to the reception desk, where a polished young woman with a professional smile looked up from her computer. "Can I help you?" she asked. "I'm here to see my husband," Rachel replied, her confidence unwavering. "He's the CEO." She continued with the last words. The receptionist's smile faltered for a moment, and she looked at Rachel with a mixture of curiosity and caution but she quickly came back to her senses and said, "I'm afraid there's been some... confusion," she said slowly. "The CEO's wife is... someone else from what I have seen”. Rachel's smile froze on her face. "What do you mean?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper. The receptionist's eyes darted around the room, as if searching for an escape route or a way to deflect the conversation. "I... uh... I think you should speak with the CEO's assistant," she stammered, her voice trembling slightly. "She will be able to... clarify things for you." She said, after regretting why she said that earlier. She knew it was not her right to tell her about this, that was why she was trying to free the talk. Rachel's mind was racing. What was going on? Who was this other woman? She felt a wave of nausea wash over her as she tried to process the receptionist's words. "I don't understand," Rachel said, her voice shaking. "I'm his wife. We have been married for six months." The receptionist's expression was sympathetic, but also guarded. "I'm sorry, Mrs... um...?" "Rachel," she supplied, her eyes never leaving the receptionist's face. "Mrs Rachel, I really think you should speak with the CEO's assistant," the receptionist repeated, her voice firm but gentle. "She will be able to explain everything to you." Rachel nodded numbly, feeling like she was in a dream. She followed the receptionist to the assistant's office, her heart pounding in her chest. The assistant who was working, looked up from her computer as a knock on the door interrupted her work. "Come in," she said, her fingers pausing over the keyboard. The receptionist entered with an apologetic smile, accompanied by Rachel, who seemed lost in thought. "I'm sorry to disturb you, ma'am," the receptionist said softly. The assistant nodded graciously, her eyes narrowing slightly as she took in Rachel's distant expression. The receptionist's gentle touch on Rachel's arm seemed to bring her back to reality. "Ma'am, this is the CEO's assistant," the receptionist explained, her voice low. Rachel's smile was strained as she turned to the assistant. Meanwhile, the receptionist bowed her head and excused herself, leaving the two women alone in the office. Emily, the assistant, leaned forward in her chair, gesturing to the seat in front of her desk. "Please, have a seat," she said. Rachel sat down, her eyes fixed on Emily's face. Her heart was racing, and her mind was filled with questions. What was going on? She wanted to ask, but she held herself back. "Miss Rachel, how may I help you?" Emily asked, her eyes scrutinizing Rachel's face. Rachel looked lost and vulnerable. "I came to see my husband," Rachel said, her voice choking with emotion. Emily raised an eyebrow and said . "If you came to see your husband, then what are you doing in my office?" She leaned back in her chair, her eyes narrowing slightly as she twirled a pen in her hand. Rachel took a deep breath and replied to her. "I came to look for Matthew Smith." As soon as the words left Rachel's lips, Emily's expression changed. She looked shocked, her eyes wide with surprise. "You want to tell me that the CEO is your husband?" Emily asked sharply. Rachel nodded slowly, her fist clenched in her lap. Emily's expression turned cold, as her eyes flashed with anger. "Do I look like a joke to you?" Emily snapped. "How dare you lie to me? Don't you know that the CEO has one wife, and that's Mrs. Linda Smith?" Rachel’s eyes widened in shock, her face pale as she struggled to process Emily's words. She felt like she had been punched in the gut, as her breath knocked out of her. She tried to speak, but her voice caught in her throat. Emily's expression was cold, her eyes flashing with anger. "I don't know what kind of game you are playing, but I assure you, Mrs. Linda Smith is the CEO's wife. They have been married for over three years." Rachel's mind was reeling. Three years? That was impossible. She and Matthew had been married for six months. She felt a wave of nausea wash over her, and she thought she might pass out. She gripped the armrests of the chair tightly, trying to hold on to reality. "Where is he?" Rachel demanded, her voice shaking with anger and fear. "I want to see him. I want to know what's going on." Emily's expression didn't change, but Rachel saw a flicker of uncertainty in her eyes. Meanwhile, Rachel's patience had worn thin. She stood up abruptly from the chair, as her eyes locked on Emily's unyielding expression. Without a word, she turned and rushed out of the office, leaving Emily behind. As she stepped out into the hallway, Rachel was met with a flurry of curious glances from the office staff. She ignored them, her mind focused on finding the truth. With a sense of determination, she quickly explored the unfamiliar hallways, her eyes scanning the door signs until she found the one she was looking for “the CEO's office”. Rachel's heart was racing as she stood outside the door. She didn't bother to knock, her intuition telling her that she had finally found what she was looking for. With a deep breath, she pushed open the door and stepped inside. The scene before her was one she would never forget. Her husband, Matthew, was sitting in his office chair, with another woman perched on his lap. They were kissing passionately, completely oblivious to Rachel's presence. Rachel's eyes widened in shock, her mind struggling to process what she was seeing. She felt like she had been punched in the gut, her breath knocked out of her. She stood there, frozen in horror, as the reality of the situation sunk in.Epilogue.One year later, the Davis Estate garden was decorated like something out of a fairy tale.Twinkling lights and balloons were hung on the wall and a grand banner which wrote, “Happy 1st Birthday Elisha And Ryan”. Were mounted on the entrance of the mansion.Laughter filled the air as friends, family, and close colleagues gathered for the double birthday celebration of the two beloved little stars of the Davis and Jones families.Elisha sat in her high chair wearing a fluffy white and pink birthday dress, her curls bouncing as she clapped at the sight of her three tiers cake which was decorated with butterflies, flowers, and a tiny golden crown on top.Beside her, Ryan was already trying to grab a chunk of his cake, a blue and white masterpiece with stars and a little lion figure on top. Freda, who was with them, tried to take pictures, but the two naughty children were not having any of it as their eyes were fixed on the cake.“At least let me take one picture”. She said wit
So Genevieve gave a slow nod and said softly, “Go and do what needs to be done. I will take care of everything here.” Saying this, she glanced at the two men, who nodded their heads quickly.Without a word, Harris leaned down and kissed Rachel’s forehead, whispering, “I will be back soon, baby.” Then with that, the three men left the room and went straight to the car they were using.Inside the abandoned warehouse, Leo, Linda, and Matthew were still tied up, weak, bruised, and silent.Suddenly , the door slammed open and the three men entered the room with a cold face.Harris, who didn't even settle down, charged straight to Matthew and started throwing punches at him.As if it wasn’t enough, he even stood him up and slammed him hard into the wall, making him dizzy.“You laid hands on my wife?”. Harris roared as he continued punching Matthew’s face.Seeing his bloody face, Harris didn't stop and threw him another punch, “You dared touch her? You miserable piece of shit”. He cursed l
Shortly after, they wheeled Rachel out from the emergency room and Harris emerged proudly, cradling their newborn in his arms with a soft smile. On the other hand, as soon as Genevieve saw Rachel, she quickly rushed forward with a concerned look and asked gently, “How are you doing, child?”Rachel, who was too weak to respond, fluttered her with exhaustion and just then, Harris stepped in with a soft smile and explained, “Mum, she’s still very weak”.“Oh! That’s true”. Genevieve said, lightly facepalming and added with a chuckle “I got carried away.”Seeing that they were now free, the nurse continued wheeling Rachel into the room where Freda was already resting. It was a spacious maternity room, designed to accommodate three people. In the room, Freda was sitting up, cradling her newborn son with a soft glow on her face. “He looks tiny”. Rapheal murmured with pouty lips as he stared at his baby brother.“Of course sweetie, you were also like this when I gave birth to you”. Freda sa
Fifteen minutes later, Harris, who was sitting on the bench outside the room, stood up and started pacing furiously. He ran his hands through his hair and glanced at the door with bloodshot eyes.Rachel could still be heard, but he couldn't do anything which made him really angry.Richard, who had gone to do a call earlier, came back and said, “I have told the family, they are on their way.”Harris gave a slight nod and sat down back on the chair. Then he leaned his head on the wall and started blaming himself for his carelessness.“Why didn’t I follow her? Why did I let her go alone?” Harris muttered angrily. “If I had gone with her, nothing of such would have happened ”. He said with a sad smile.“Don’t do that man, this isn’t your fault and you know it. They planned it man, they used someone on the inside and even the bodyguard couldn’t stop them.” Richard said softly, trying to calm Harris.Suddenly, the double doors swung open revealing the doctor who came out with a grim face.
“Freeze, hands in the air”. The head of the bodyguard said coldly as he entered, followed by the full squad of the Jones and Davis bodyguards.Harris and Richard also entered with a cold look on their faces, and when Richard pointed his gun at Leo, he quickly raised his hands and shouted with fear on his face, “Wait”.As for Linda , she dropped to her knees shaking with fear, while Matthew tried to flee, but he was caught back by Harris.Harris charged straight toward him and tackled him with a terrifying force.Matthew fell heavily to the ground and Harris, who was emitting a dark aura, walked close to him and started landing blow after blow with his fists until Richard yanked him off.“Take care of Rachel”. Richard said, which made him finally stop. He stared at Rachel whose face was pale and ran towards her.Even though Richard yanked Harris off earlier, he felt that the beating was not enough, so he took over and started punching Matthew who was screaming like a pig being slaught
Meanwhile at the hospital, Freda screamed as another contraction ripped through her body.“I-It’s too soon”. She cried and gripped the bed rails hard.“You are doing great, baby”. Hilary whispered and held her hand tight as he added. “Just breathe darling.”As Hilary was saying this, the doctors rushed her inside the emergency room quickly because her labor had started.Hilary, who was scared of his wife going through the pain alone, quickly got dressed and entered the room to assist her while the rest stayed outside the ward.Genevieve sat quietly in the corner with baby Michael still in her arms, as her mind kept drifting back to Rachel whose location was still unknown.“Aunty, Rachel and Freda will be ok right? Olivia asked quietly and sat down beside Genevieve.“Yes darling”. Genevieve said with a heavy heart. On the other hand, Mr Davis and Mr Jones paced the waiting room just outside as their phones were glued to their ears, demanding updates every two minutes. They were fighti
