Lykan's pov

Snow crunched beneath our boots.

Twelve.

Only twelve of us remained.

The silence after the battle rang louder than the clash of blades. The ridge was behind us now, bloody and scorched,, but the scent of death still clung to the wind.

We made camp in a clearing sheltered by pine, the branches drooping low with the weight of snow. A fire burned, weak against the chill, and our warriors sat scattered around it, silent, nursing wounds they didn’t speak of.

This wasn’t just a rescue mission anymore.

This was a war.

And whatever ruled Nytherra... it wasn’t something natural.

I stood at the edge of the clearing, the night sky ink-black above me. The trees surrounding us whispered with things unseen.

Dominic stepped up beside me, arms crossed, his expression unusually grim.

“I thought I’d seen everything,” he said, his voice low. “But those witches… they weren’t creatures. They were forces. And we’re not prepared.”

I didn’t respond right away.

Because he was right.

  • Betrayed Luna: The Alpha's Claim    180

Lykan’s POV I felt something, soft fingers brushing against my skin, gentle but persistent. It tugged me from the deep, dreamless darkness I had sunk into. Ever since we returned from the war, I hadn’t been myself. My body was here, lying on the familiar bed, but my spirit had wandered. Maybe it was the aftershock, maybe it was the weight of all we had seen, all we had lost. Maybe peace was too foreign, now too silent, too suspicious. Another soft tap on my chest. Elena…... I muttered, forcing my eyelids open. She stood there, her face pale, her hair slightly disheveled, as if she hadn’t slept. Her breath came out fast, her eyes wide and worried. That alone shook me out of my grogginess faster than a lightning strike. I rubbed the back of my palm against my eyes and sat upright. Elena, what’s wrong? I managed, my voice still hoarse with sleep. I think Cael might be in danger, she said, panting lightly, her words rapid and clipped. Those strangers, remember them? I don’

Elena’s POV I'm here now, I whispered as I stepped quietly into Cael's room, the soft creak of the door alerting him before my voice even finished carrying through the space. The dim glow from the moon outside gently poured in through the window, casting long shadows across the floor. The room still smelled of lavender and innocence, the kind only children carried around like an invisible cloak. The very air felt warmer, familiar… and healing. Ma Elena, Cael’s voice broke the silence, shrill with excitement. I barely had time to breathe before he leapt from his little bed and came running at me with open arms. My heart swelled, and without hesitation, I opened mine wider. I caught him mid-air, wrapping him into me like a long-lost piece of my soul had just been returned. Tears stung the corners of my eyes. I missed you, my little charming prince, I said, pressing a kiss to his forehead. He smelled of talcum powder and warmth. So small, so full of life, yet too young to u

I watched Elena as she sat, her posture poised yet alert. Her eyes scanned the room, settling momentarily on Lykan. The intensity in his gaze suggested she had confided in him about the strangers. A silent understanding passed between them, unspoken but palpable. Seeing Elena fully back with us was a joy that overflowed. Her presence brought a sense of completeness we hadn't felt in days. I couldn't wait to share the good news with Cael, he has been asking about her incessantly, wondering if she had forgotten him. But the joy was tinged with unease. The way Elena and Lykan looked at the strangers, there was a tension, a silent recognition that sent a chill down my spine. I knew it was time to inform the Alpha and Elena, but Elena would be the perfect person. I leaned toward Elena and whispered, Can we talk outside? She nodded, rising gracefully. We stepped into the cool evening air, the distant hum of the city a stark contrast to the silence between us. Hi, Elena, I began,

  • Betrayed Luna: The Alpha's Claim    177

Lykan POV The journey back to the Black Mountain Pack was quiet, but there was a powerful energy in the air, one I could feel in my bones. It wasn’t just the relief of being home, it was the anticipation, the tension of what awaited us. As we approached the pack’s borders, the sight that greeted us made me slow my steps. The road ahead was lined with people, our people standing in rows, their faces filled with joy, pride, and something that went beyond simple loyalty. They weren’t just welcoming us back, they were celebrating a victory, a homecoming that carried the weight of survival and hope. Alpha Lykan, voices called out from all directions, rising like waves crashing against the shore. Some were shouting my name, others calling Elena’s, their cheers blending into a chorus of gratitude and love. Palm fronds were scattered across the road, a traditional gesture of honor, and many of the younger wolves had flowers in their hands, throwing them into the air as we passed. I gl

Elena’s POV The journey leaving the Northern Range Pack back to our own felt heavier than I expected. There was silence, thick and unbroken hanging over us like a cloak. Even though we had achieved everything we came for, the weight of all we had seen, all we had endured, clung to our souls like shadows. Perhaps it was the memories of that cold land, or perhaps it was the faces we left behind, but none of us spoke for a while. Each hoofbeat of our horses against the dirt sounded louder than usual, like a slow drumbeat marking time. Strangely, the journey home seemed faster, as if the roads themselves were eager to see us leave that place of trials and return to familiar ground. Or maybe it was my heart, yearning for home, for the warm scent of the forest that belonged to us. The tall trees began to change around us, signaling the edge of the enchanted forest. And then I saw them, Scarlet people and the other witches waiting where the trees formed a natural archway. I blinked

Sophia POV I stood by the window, my fingers gripping the cold frame as I stared outside. Elena and the others were walking down the path, their figures slowly fading into the distance. I didn’t blink, I couldn’t. My chest felt heavy, and my throat tightened as I watched them leave, each step they took pulling something from deep inside me, something I didn’t know I still had. By the time they were out of sight, I felt hollow. I hadn’t even realized that my vision had grown blurry until a tear slipped down my cheek, warm and uninvited. I quickly wiped it away with the back of my hand, but it was too late. More followed, spilling down like a dam had broken inside me. I drew in a shaky breath, trying to force myself to stop. I couldn’t cry, not me, not Sophia, the girl who always acted like she had no weaknesses. But the truth was breaking me apart piece by piece. A sudden knock on my door startled me. My heart jumped into my throat, and I quickly stepped away from the window, w
