Laura swayed on her feet, her breath coming out in short gasps. Every inch of her body screamed in pain. Blood dripped from the corner of her mouth, warm and metallic on her tongue. Her vision blurred, but she forced herself to stay upright.

Don't fall. Don't you dare fall.

She blinked hard, trying to clear her sight. Her legs felt like they might give out any second.

Garrick stood a few feet away, completely unfazed. His arms hung loose at his sides, his glowing eyes gleaming with amusement. He wasn't even trying.

Because he didn't have to.

"Is that really all you've got?" he asked, not even bothering to hide his boredom.

The crowd around them murmured, their whispers cutting through the air like knives.

"She should just stay down."

"This is so pathetic."

"She was never a real warrior, anyway."

Each word stung worse than her injuries. Laura wiped the blood from her chin with the back of her hand, leaving a dark smear across her skin.

Laura's heart sank with each cruel word.

Laura couldn't fall back asleep after Nikolai walked her to her room. Her mind kept going back to the dream—those four wolves standing against a shadow that seemed alive somehow. And that voice, telling her to choose one or lose all.She got up and paced the floor, moonlight streaming through the windows. This wasn't her first dream like this. Back at Dante's territory, she'd dreamed of shadow wolves too. That night after they'd...Heat rushed to her cheeks at the memory and her pussy throbbed with want but she drove it down as she tried to focus. These weren't just dreams. The mark on her skin had been real. She'd seen it glowing with her own eyes before it faded away. Or maybe she had been dreaming.A soft knock at her door made her jump."Still awake?" Nikolai's voice came through the wood.Laura pulled her robe tighter around herself before opening the door. Nikolai stood there, still fully dressed despite the late hour."Can't sleep either?" she asked. His eyes searched her face.

The ride back to Nikolai's estate was quiet. Laura stared out the carriage window, watching moonlight paint silver streaks across the dark landscape. Her mind was still reeling from everything she'd witnessed at the Silver Paw."You're thinking about him, aren't you?" Nikolai's voice cut through the silence.Laura turned, meeting his gaze in the dim light. "Kieran?""Who else?" Nikolai leaned back, his face half-hidden in shadow. "He's hunting you with a desperation that borders on madness."Laura wrapped her arms around herself, a chill running down her spine despite the warm night. "What I don't understand is why."Nikolai's fingers drummed against his knee, his eyes distant. "Those wolves in the north... the way they're acting isn't natural. Attacking their own packs, moving like they're possessed.""What are you saying?" Laura asked."I'm wondering if the legends are true." Nikolai's voice dropped lower. "If they are truly shadow wolves like we all suspect. Creatures of darkness t

The next evening, Nikolai knocked on Laura's door just as she finished dressing."I have business in town tonight," he said, his eyes carefully neutral as they met hers. No trace of last night's intensity remained. "I thought you might like to see where real information is gathered."Laura hesitated. After their confrontation in the garden, she hadn't expected him to include her in his affairs."No moon lilies involved?" she asked, raising an eyebrow. The corner of Nikolai's mouth twitched. "Just business."Something in his voice—a new respect, perhaps?—made Laura nod. "Give me five minutes."---The carriage took them to what appeared to be an ordinary tavern in the nearby town. The Silver Paw looked like any other establishment catering to travelers and locals, with weathered wooden doors and the smell of ale and hearty food wafting through the windows."This doesn't seem like your style," Laura commented as Nikolai helped her down from the carriage."Appearances," Nikolai said with

  • Betrayed Luna To Alpha Queen   Chapter Sixty One

Laura couldn't sleep that night. Her mind raced with thoughts of Zephyr's curse and the strange connection she felt with each Alpha. The moonlight filtered through her window, casting silver shadows across her room. With a sigh, she slipped from her bed and wrapped a silk robe around herself. Perhaps fresh air would clear her head. The gardens were silent this late at night. Laura wandered along stone paths, inhaling the sweet scent of night flowers. As she turned a corner, she gasped. Before her stretched a hidden garden filled with flowers she'd never seen before—blooms that only opened under moonlight, their petals a luminous blue-white that seemed to glow."Moon lilies," came Nikolai's voice from the shadows. "They only bloom three nights each month."Laura turned to find him watching her from a stone bench. He wore a simple black shirt, open at the throat, and dark pants. His hair was tousled, as if he'd been running his hands through it."They're beautiful," she said, keeping he

Laura's fingers trembled as she turned the pages of the book. The leather felt warm under her touch, almost alive. Her heart pounded as she found what she was looking for - a section titled "The Duskbane Curse."The Duskbane bloodline carries a terrible burden, passed from Alpha to Alpha through generations. During the Shadow Wars, the first Alpha of Shadowfang made a pact with ancient powers to protect his pack. The price: moments of savage madness that grant explosive power but rob the Alpha of reason and humanity.Laura gasped, her hand flying to her mouth. She remembered Zephyr's tightly controlled demeanor, his careful movements. It all made sense now.As the Alpha ages, these episodes become more frequent, more violent. Many Duskbanes have killed their own pack members during these rages. Some have taken their own lives rather than risk harming those they protect."Finding it interesting?" Nikolai's smooth voice came from behind her.Laura jumped, slamming the book shut. "You kn

On the fifth day, they crested a hill, and Laura gasped at the sight below. While she had expected another territory like the others—perhaps a village or fortress—what sprawled before her was nothing short of magnificent.A massive mansion of white stone stood in a clearing, surrounded by perfectly manicured gardens. Fountains sparkled in the sunlight, and Laura could make out figures moving along the pathways—servants, guards, and what appeared to be visitors from different packs."Welcome to my home," Nikolai said with unmistakable pride."This isn't a pack territory," Laura said, stunned."No," he agreed. "It's something better."As they rode closer, Laura took in the details. Unlike Dante's wild, natural territory or Lucian's imposing fortress, Nikolai's estate spoke of wealth and influence. It reminded her somewhat of Zephyr's scholarly domain, but where Zephyr's pack lands emphasized knowledge and history, this place screamed power and luxury."How do you maintain this without a
