LOGINRYAN
After an absolutely awful night—one where, thankfully, there were no fires or tragedies to deal with, but the paperwork was a nightmare. I am so exhausted that all I want to do is get home and sleep after a twenty-seven-hour shift spent doing nothing but filing and checking inventory. My phone starts ringing somewhere in the car, and as I fumble around for it without taking my eyes off the road, a little white cotton ball darts into my path. I am barely conscious of slamming on the brakes and gripping the steering wheel tight, bracing myself for the impact. When I look up, I see a petite brunette looking at me with incredibly sad eyes, leaning against the hood of my car. Her face is covered in smudged makeup and her hair is a mess, but she is still absolutely beautiful. "Oh my God!" I hear her say, breathing heavily. Her hands hit my car, shooting me a look of pure hatred. Does she know me? I don't think so; I wouldn't forget someone like her. She is simply captivating. Without taking her eyes off me, she raises both hands and flips me off with both middle fingers. I start laughing at how bold this girl is. I get out of the car, ready to ask her why she is so angry. But when I do, I am hit by a sweet strawberry scent. You have got to be kidding me! I am in shock, looking her up and down; she is in a wedding dress. My mate is in a wedding dress. As I stand there, with a dry mouth and a racing pulse, in front of the cutest, most vulnerable, and furious little thing I have ever seen in my life, everything stopped. I couldn't see anyone else, and I couldn't understand who could have hurt her to the point of leaving her in this state. My hands itched to touch her; my eyes could only watch her with hunger, desire, and love. The fire in her eyes shifted between anger and desperation. I want to help her, but judging by her demeanor, if I got too close, I would get hurt. "April!" the shouting man runs toward her. April? Pretty name. "Are you okay?" "Am I okay?" she starts laughing, pulling away from his touch. "No, David, I am clearly not okay, and it's your fault." I didn't like this. What did this idiot do to her? "Maybe we should talk about this in private, no one wants to hear about our problems." Is he scared? She simply bends down, picks up her shoes, and starts walking away from this David guy. "We need to go back, there is still time to fix everything." At that moment, I saw her spin around, completely shocked. "Fix everything? Are you kidding me?" She throws a shoe at him, making him duck to avoid getting hit. People are starting to gather to watch the show. "You cheated on me on our wedding day. Actually, sorry, you have been cheating on me for a long time. Did it feel good to play me for a fool?" It seems my mate has caught her breath, proving to me that her lungs work perfectly fine. "April, there is an explanation for everything, sweetheart, if we could just talk—" but at that moment, the other shoe goes flying, hitting him right in the stomach. A smile starts to form on my face, but it quickly fades when I see her walk over to a guy on a motorcycle. "Get me out of here," she says, hopping on. The moment she does, the motorcycle roars to life and speeds away with her. "David, are you okay?" another man in a suit approaches him. "April sure has good aim despite just being a vet. Who would have thought she had that kind of temper?" I watch them as they stand up, their eyes fixed on the road where that little runaway bunny disappeared. Coming back to my senses, I get back into my car. I had spent that whole moment completely frozen. I must have looked like a fool. But on the bright side, I have discovered a few things today. First, my mate was about to get married, but she didn't. Second, her name is April and she is a veterinarian. Now I just have to figure out where she works before I go crazy. Third, she has a hell of a temper and a great throwing arm. And lastly, she is the most perfect little thing I have ever seen in my life. Everything in me wants to go after her, but it is obvious I need to give her a few days to heal from this heartbreak. Letting out one last sigh, I start the engine and go back to my original plan. ( - - - ) Barely awake, my door is assaulted by knocking. I curse, walk over, and open it extremely reluctantly. "Are you ready?" I look at him, confused. "We are all getting together today, come on Ryan, it is our night off, don't be a buzzkill." "Nathan, I am tired, I don't feel like going out." I just want to think about my mate. Although thinking about it also makes me impatient. I need to know, where the hell did she go? "Come on, Ryan, I am not moving from here until you are ready." He makes himself comfortable, putting his feet up on my table. Grunting, I go get changed, knowing that keeping him here would be worse. "I am not staying long, I need to rest," I warn him, considering what I really need is to figure out how to find her. "I have a feeling this is going to be a good night, man." If it goes anything like my day, I doubt it. Once we get to the bar, I see the guys gathered at a table in the back, completely oblivious to everything around them. I take a glance at the bar counter and see a flash of white. Could it be? Ignoring my friends who are calling out to me, I walk over to see if it is her. When I realize that it is, I sit down next to her; I won't let anyone else get close to her. It seems Nathan was right to insist on coming to this place.APRIL"April, what is wrong?" It was the third time Summer had asked me without getting an answer. "Come on, trust me, I do not like seeing you like this.""We need to get Mr. Patterson's bulldog ready, he will be by to pick him up in 20 minutes. Can you check that everything is in perfect condition?""Sure, April, I will do it right away." She sighs, annoyed, but I will not say anything to her."Thanks..." I could not help but replay the conversation with my father over and over in my head.Around noon, I see Ryan walk through the door. We had agreed to have lunch together, but with everything going on, I had forgotten."Bunny." Just that makes me relax. Taking me by the waist, he leaned in to place a kiss on my lips. "I hope you are ready to get out of here." I simply wrapped my arms around his shoulders and hugged him.I needed a hug so much today."So my mother was not wrong, and you really are a slut?" That voice, one I had loved so much over the years, and now it only makes me f
MeganI do not think I have ever seen anyone as upset as Jack is right now.On the way to his house, he did not say a single word. I guess his head was full of things, while I did not say anything because I was too scared to open my mouth. When we walked into his house, things did not change much. His body was giving off a sort of "do not come near me" signal, and God knows I was not going to."What were you thinking? I only asked you to stay inside." Even though he did not yell, his tone made me feel so small."I wanted to be responsible...""Do not lie to me, angel, and do not lie to yourself. What you wanted was to prove that you are not weak. You thought, I will go to school and show everyone they are exaggerating. Well, breaking news, you were wrong, and you exposed everyone in a ridiculous way.""I know I made a mistake, but I really did not think he would dare. The school was full.""The building I pulled you out of was too, and that did not stop him from setting it on fire. Yo
JackWe were called for an apparent emergency, but when we arrived, there was nothing. I cannot believe people joke about this; while we are coming here, we might be needed somewhere else. My annoyance only grows. I still haven't spoken to my angel; I am getting the damn cold shoulder just for wanting to protect her. I look for my phone thinking about calling her to see how everything is going, but I cannot find it. I hope I did not lose it."Jack, we have a problem." I looked at Nathan, who was holding his phone."What happened now? A fake cat stuck in an imaginary tree?" I sighed in anger."No, actually, it is a moon trapped in a school, with a fire and a wolf," he shakes his head as I erupt."She dared to escape! I asked her to stay in the house. Is she foolish?" I growled so loudly that my teammates took a step back."Calm down, Jack, Ryan is taking care of it." Nathan's amused tone had vanished."Let's go to the school," I say, already heading to the truck. "What are you waiting
Megan"Children, continue with your work, I will be right back." I walk out of the classroom with a calmness that I clearly lack. I approach the door to Susan's classroom and knock until she comes out."What is wrong? You are pale and you look scared." Her look is worried. Do I really look that bad?"He is here. My God, Susan, I should have listened to Jack. Do not tell him I said that, but I cannot believe he actually dared to come. What are we going to do now?""I will go find Jeremy, you call Jack." What? No..."Um... no. We can solve this. I am not suicidal enough to tell him I sneaked out. Susan, I am sure he hasn't even noticed yet.""Do not start right now," she looks at me, annoyed. "Call him, this is serious, Meg." And with that she leaves, surely to look for Jeremy.I look through the door's window at the calm children, oblivious to the lunatic nearby. I cannot be so selfish and not protect them. Sighing, I take out my phone and prepare for a battle I have already lost. I he
MeganTelling Susan that I would stay with Jack was not as easy as I thought, especially with her making a scene. The good thing was Jeremy's presence and the fact that Jack promised he would not let anything happen to me. But that was a walk in the park compared to the conversation I am having right now with Jack."You cannot tell me not to go to work, that is crazy. Do you understand that it is my responsibility?""Now is not the time, angel, you do not understand things. Here at home you will be safe, there is no need for you to expose yourself like that." My eyes narrow and my patience reaches its limit."If this is how it is going to be, I am leaving. Not just to work, I am leaving this place. You do not own me, Jack. I have been working non-stop for two years, I cannot just leave everything hanging, do you understand? Besides, Susan and Jeremy will be there, they will not leave me alone, nothing will happen to me.""You are not going, angel, and that is my final word." Damn poss
MeganI see him before me, and he looks devastated. Perhaps I am being selfish; it cannot be easy to tell someone you are a wolf. I am a damn selfish witch!"What you said does not bother me. I was surprised that you were a wolf, but I am scared of what you might do to me." His expression is uncertain, and I know that is my fault."I would never do anything to you, angel. To hurt you would be to hurt myself. Since I discovered you were my mate, I have done nothing but protect you. After what happened yesterday, I have no intention of letting you out of my sight, even if you do not want me around." He lowers himself, sitting against the wall just like me. "I will not be like your ex-boyfriend. I intend to protect you from him.""When you asked me if I believed in the supernatural, well, I thought you had already figured it out. I mean, I never imagined you would tell me you were one yourself. I knew you were hiding something from me, but I thought of many different things." I was so wr
