The receptionist slid a glossy key card across the marble counter with a smile on her face that looked like she had perfected it after so much rehearsal.

“Mr. Blackwood, your suite is ready. One suite with two separate bedrooms and an ocean view. We hope you enjoy your stay at the Paradise Grand. Thank you.”

Alex accepted the card with a nod, his expression unreadable. I reached for mine, thinking I’d quickly slip it into my purse before following him toward the elevators, but then I realised that there was only one for both of us. I could feel the receptionist’s eyes on me, curious, maybe even judgmental, as to what I was looking at.

As soon as we were out of earshot, my chest tightened inside of me. I had been holding back the words since we left Miami, but they burst out before I could stop myself.

“One suite?” My voice trembled with anger that I could no longer restrain. “With two bedrooms?”

Alex didn’t even glance at me. “Do you have a problem with that?”

I quickened my ste

I froze in the doorway of the elevator, my hand hovering inches from the panel of buttons. My heart beat fast in my chest as the man inside turned toward me, familiar features softening into a smile that felt like a punch to the gut.“Chloe?” Bryan’s voice rang with warmth, the same smooth tone I remembered from countless nights when I’d once trusted him with my heart. He lifted the book in his hand like a trophy. “Hey. What are the odds?”My fingers curled tightly around the strap of my bag. “Bryan?” His name tasted bitter on my tongue as it rolled out. I forced a thin smile, arms folding across my chest like armour. “How...how are you here? What are you doing here?”He chuckled nervously, tapping the glossy cover of his latest release. “I’m on a signing tour. The Maldives was the next location on my list. Can you believe that? My publisher couldn’t resist the urge to get us done here.”My throat tightened. I could tell that I didn’t buy it, didn’t believe him for a second but I

The sun pressed hot against my skin, the salty breeze hitting the edges of my towel. I leaned back into the comfortable cushioned lounge chair, hat tilted low to shield my face from the sun, the turquoise pool reflecting dazzling light that almost mocked the terrible mood that I was in. My phone pressed warm to my ear, Lois’s familiar voice filling it up with requests to hear everything happening.“Girl, you sound tense already,” she said. I could practically hear her chewing gum in the office as she spoke to me, that carefree rhythm of her tone. “Aren’t you supposed to be sipping drinks with little umbrellas and forgetting all your worries and problems? Maldives, Chloe! It’s the freaking Maldives!”I let out a bitter laugh, pushing my sunglasses up to rub my eyes with my hand. “Oh yeah, so relaxing. You mean while the world labels me as Alex Blackwood’s newest mystery fling? While my name trends like some scandal headline in every blog and article?”Lois snorted. “Please. I saw those

The knock came in sharp and steady, dragging me out of my thoughts.“Chloe,” Alex’s voice rang through the door with a commanding tone. A tone I was beginning to know too well. “Breakfast is ready. Get out here before it gets cold.”I closed my eyes briefly, inhaling through my nose and calming myself down before opening the door. He stood there, immaculate as ever with a black shirt rolled to his forearms, hair perfectly in place, eyes unreadable.“Morning,” I muttered, trying not to sound as reluctant as I felt.“Morning to you too,” he replied evenly, already turning down the hall.I followed him into the dining area, and my steps faltered. The long table gleamed under the soft lights, lined with a spread from room service that looked like it had been crafted for royalty: jewel-bright fruit, pastries still steaming, silver trays of eggs and smoked meats, pitchers of juice, and even champagne chilling in a crystal bucket for them.I busied myself with fixing a small plate tha

CHLOE’S POV The jet touched down with a low rumble that vibrated through the cabin walls before finally ending in silence. I shifted in my seat, yawning as I tried to straighten my spine after a long while. Eighteen hours in the air, even with the expensive leather seats my butt had been on and the endless great service, it had drained me more than I wanted Alex to notice. He stood on his feet first, stretching as he reached for his jacket. His eyes turned to me. “Hey, did you manage to eat during the flight?”Caught off guard, I blinked. “Yes,” I said quickly, remembering the meal I’d forced myself to finish while he slept like a baby because he was used to flying for this long.“Good.” His lips curved into a familiar smirk that I was getting used to. “You realise how much longer this would’ve been if it were a commercial flight? Probably two stops before we’d even start to smell the Maldives. “That’s one of the blessings of being with the rich. No wasted time.”The arrogance

CHLOE’S POVThe driver’s voice reaching my ears shook me out of my thoughts.“We’re here, ma’am” he said gently.I blinked, the words dragging me back to the reality I was in. My gaze slid toward the window, and the moment my eyes landed on the scene outside, the air caught in my throat. There was Alex.Leaning casually against one of his black cars, one hand tucked into his pocket, the other resting on the curve of Tatiana’s hip as if it made to be there. She was draped against him, her head tilted toward his chest, laughing at something he’d said to her.My grip on the seat tightened.“Wait,” I muttered to the driver, lifting a hand before he could move to open the door for me.He raised an eyebrow but stayed back in his seat. I couldn’t tear my eyes away. Alex’s fingers continued finding new areas of Tatiana’s waist, lingering, then sliding lower and lower. The intimacy of it made my chest ache in a way I couldn’t even give a name to. The ease in his touch, the comfort in h
