Azura
I tell the guards on the borders my name and he mind-links his Alpha to get his permission to let me enter. The cold expression on his face soon vanishes as he smiles at me and leads me to the pack house where Alpha Theo lives.
My mother’s parents had two daughters so Aunt Gina’s mate, Alpha Theo, took over the pack as he was the Crimson Moon pack’s Alpha’s second son and my father wanted to serve his pack as the Beta.
“Zura,” Elias smirks, teasing me by calling me Zura just like he used to do when we were kids. We often played together as Dad let me come to the Black Cliff pack to bond with my mother’s side family and Aunt Gina treated me like her own daughter.
Elias and I were close, he knew about my crush on Nicholas but he never liked him. Contrarily, he was glad when I dated Ryker in the academy. Ryker and Nicholas were roommates and had become best friends, that’s how I came to know about the most arrogant and ruthless Ryker’s existence. The cold-hearted Alpha.
I roll my eyes and frown. “Hello, Eli-Peli.” And it’s his turn to roll his gorgeous ocean-blue eyes. Goddess, I was always jealous of his eyes. We both had blue eyes but I liked his shade better and he knew that.
“Stop calling me that. I’m an Alpha now,” he whines, dismissing the guard.
The revelation strikes me, and my eyes widen in astonishment. “When did you take over the pack and become Alpha?”
“Last week only after father passed away in the rogue’s attack while I was away to deal with the business matter in the town,” he retorts in a low voice, his playful tone changing to a gloomy tone.
“I’m sorry, I didn’t know anything about this. I was so caught up in my father’s-” I suppress my lip, not wanting to bother him with my burden when he was already grappling with his father’s loss and the responsibility of an Alpha.
He grabs my elbows, his eyes narrowing at me. “What’s wrong with Uncle Drake?”
I take a sharp deep breath to calm my pounding heart as I don’t want him to see me crying and I’m on the edge of breaking down because Elias sees right through me and despite our little arguments and fights, he deeply cares about me like an elder brother.
“He passed away. Someone killed him and the forensic reports show that I’m the murderer,” I tell him the truth, knowing him all too well that he will not leave the topic until he gets to the bottom of it.
“And Nicholas exiled you from the pack, that’s why you’re here?” He asks in a dangerously low tone.
I lower my head in embarrassment. It hurts like hell hearing those words. “He didn’t trust me and asked his men to lock me up in the cell till the Alpha Lucius arrived so I escaped.” I didn’t tell him about what Ella had heard. I didn’t want Elias to go to the Dark Storm pack and rip his heart out.
Elias would exactly do that if he ever got to know that Nicholas not only ordered my imprisonment but also was planning to kill me with my stepsister.
“Fucking bastard. He proved that the bastards are never trustworthy,” Elias spits furiously. Although Alpha Lucius has declared Nicholas as his legitimate son, people knew the truth. Luna Pamela was Alpha Lucius’s Mistress whom he married after his fated mate died while giving birth to Ryker.
Ryker and I had suffered through the same fate but his father disowned him while my father cherished me.
“I’m sorry, Elias. I didn’t know about Uncle Theo’s death or else I wouldn’t have come here to bother you,” I say as guilt surfaces in my heart.
He lets out a low growl. “Shut the fuck up and come inside. The Black Cliff pack is your home now.”
Elias forces me to go and take a shower, poking fun at me that I’m reeking of sweat. After taking a cold shower, I grab a black tank top and a pair of shorts from my backpack and get ready to go downstairs to have breakfast.
I’m nervous about meeting my Aunt. She had been a cheerful person who could make even a sick person smile. I didn’t know how to comfort her. I wasn’t ready to see her mournful face but I had to put a brave front and offer her my condolences.
I see three strange faces on the table but can’t put a name on them as I make my way to the dining table where they are waiting for me.
“Azura, honey,” Aunt Gina smiles weakly at me, getting up from her chair and pulling me in her warm embrace. Her daisy scent comforts me as she rubs her hand down my back gently.
“Hello, Azura,” a blonde girl who is sitting beside Elias smiles sweetly at me. “Oh, sorry, I forgot to introduce myself. I’m Olivia-”
Elias cut in, “My mate and Luna,” he says, his chest swelling with pride.
“What did you see in him to choose him?” I scowl and shrug while he shoots daggers at me. “I mean, look at yourself, you’re so pretty and you can get any gorgeous Alpha you want.”
Olivia giggles softly and waves her hand. “You’re funny. I like you.”
“Everyone likes me,” I shrug and a smug grin tugs at my lips as I try to lighten the mood with my jokes.
“Except me,” Elias smirks. “Anyways, I’m leaving for the Lunar Academy in an hour so Jack, my Beta, will be filling in for me for two days.” He introduces me to his two Beta and the Gamma and tells me that I can ask for them if I need any help.
“Why for two days?” I ask in confusion. I’m aware that all the Alphas are obligated to go to the Lunar Academy and have the designated training for the combat but as far as I remember, the duration was three months.
“I’m not going to participate in the combat. There is a lot to deal with at the pack now that the rogues are threatening to attack over and over so I can’t be away from the pack for three months. We are still recovering from the previous attacks,” Elias admits in a pained voice.
“Then, why are you going there for just two days?” I ask curiously, sipping my orange juice.
“To withdraw my name, I have to go there personally and it will take two days to have a round trip to the Lunar Academy as you know,” he says, finishing the last bite of his fried egg.
I play with the fork in my hand and Elias kicks me from under the table. His brow is arched, asking what is running in my mind but I have to be wary after tasting betrayal in my pack so I simply shake my head after looking at his Beta and Gamma.
We finish our breakfast and everyone leaves after bowing to their Alpha, leaving us alone. Olivia helps Aunt Gina to go back to her room as she is weak after losing her mate.
“Spill,” Elias speaks after crossing his arms once we’re alone.
“I want to participate in the Alpha combat and since you’re not participating, I want to go there by your name,” I tell him sternly to which he nods his head.
Azura “You want to disguise yourself as Alpha Elias and participate in the combat?” He asks as if confirming if he heard right. “Yes. I want to go to the Lunar Academy to train instead of your place,” I reply and he gives me a puzzled look. “And why? Why do you want to do that? Do you even have any idea what will happen to you if you get caught?” Elias bombards me with his questions, playing my big brother’s role. I can’t help but roll my eyes. “You know, I’m more powerful than you,” I smirk and continue, “Besides, I’m capable of fighting any Alpha and I want to have a chance to speak to the Alpha King. This Alpha combat is my only chance.” “Because you think that no one else can bring justice to you and your father except the Alpha King, right?” Elias says, reading my mind and my jaw drops in amazement. He is getting smart, I would give him that. “I know that even if I want, I can’t fight against the Dark Shadow pack as the situation in my pack is not good and no other Alpha ca
Azura His lips linger over my ear for longer than they should, awakening the butterflies in my stomach. He pulls himself away and lets go of my elbows. I swallow hard when his words sink into my mind and I realize that he has recognized me. My ex, Ryker Lockwood, the most arrogant and cold-hearted Alpha and half-brother of my mate has saved me from falling. I peer into his brown eyes and my gaze falls on his lips. My wolf is smitten by his handsome face, she liked him a lot. I hadn’t expected her to like him after having our fated mate but I guess my wolf is shameless and crazy. She growls at me and I ignore her tantrums. I frown when I see his lips twitching into a nasty smirk. I follow his gaze and realize that my hands are still resting on his chest. “Arrogant asshole,” I mutter to myself, immediately pushing him away and heading toward the lobby but he grips my hand and drags me along with him. I subtly clear my throat, masking my natural tone with a deeper, more masculine re
Ryker The officer asks me to have a seat and even orders a cup of americano for me as he prepares the new list. “Remove the old list and stick it on the board right now,” I say and he nods his head in understanding. Someone has deliberately picked that bastard as my roommate for me. We didn’t keep our hatred for each other hidden. Everyone knows that I don’t even prefer breathing the same air as him. “Any speculation… um, who could do this?” Ethan, the officer, asks meekly. My jaw clenches as I try to remember my enemies and there are plenty but no one can dare to do this. They fear me and know very well what will happen to them if I find out who did it which I’m going to find out eventually anyway. “No.” I give a curt reply and get up to go back to the dormitory. “I will let you know if I find any lead,” he says and stands up with the new list in his hand. We head to the dormitory together and part our ways from the lobby. I head to my room after seeing the new list on t
Azura Fuck. Everything is going opposite of what I had planned. I’m not ready yet to face my husband and to make the scenario worse, they start arguing. I hear Nicholas provoking Ryker as always from the outside and I immediately go to the small dressing mirror. Thanks to the Goddess, I had kept all the things in the drawer safely before taking the shower. I start getting dressed but I feel gross as I don't have any other option than to wear the clothes I had on again. Ryker’s growl makes my heart leap into my chest, fearing the worst. If Nicholas manages to prod him enough to make him lose his self-control, Ryker will lose the chance of even participating in the final battle, let alone becoming the Alpha King. I get out of the bathroom after making sure that my wig is in place and my scent is disguised. My jaw drops to the floor, seeing Ryker seizing Nicholas’s neck furiously. When he threatened that asshole to kill him, it wasn’t a mere threat. His wolf has taken control over
RykerI look at her in awe, she is acting like a stranger in front of her husband for Goddess knows why. Nevertheless, it makes me happy and worried at the same time. Azura loved that bastard so much. The whole Academy knew that but Nicholas didn’t even bother to glance at her until he saw her with me. The only reason she dated me was to get the attention of my half-brother who changed girlfriends like clothes. Despite me trying to explain to her how he was and she was bound to get hurt by that asshole, she didn’t pay any heed to my warnings. She was blindly in love with him but the she-wolf standing in front of me isn’t a teen girl anymore. Azura has turned into the most beautiful woman and her actions are forcing me to wonder what happened between them that she isn’t even ready to disclose her true identity to him. He was such a foolish man, I chuckled inwardly. How can he not recognize her despite being his mate? “You will pay for this, fucker,” Nicholas seethes in anger and s
Azura“What?” I look at him with my jaw dropped to the floor. “For real?” I scoff, shaking my head in disbelief. He showed his faith in me when no one else did. Even he could figure out that I couldn’t kill my father but my mate refused to believe me. It hurts me more to admit that my mate doesn’t trust me when the man whom I fake-dated for a few months trusts me. Ryker steps toward me and sits beside me on the bed with a frown etched on his face. “Do I have to repeat myself?” Of course, the big bad Alpha hated repeating himself. “I can’t believe that you’re offering to help me find the true culprit behind my father’s murder,” I tell him, narrowing my eyes at him suspiciously. He rolls his beautiful amber-brown eyes and looks at me with a perplexed look on his face. “Why is it that hard to believe?” I sneer and shrug casually, stealing a glance at him. “Can you blame me for your cold-hearted Alpha reputation?” He waves his hand off and frowns. “I’m still cold-hearted but I thin
Ryker She gets ready in fifteen minutes and gets out of the bathroom after wearing her wig and lenses. I stifle a chuckle, she looks cute in a male’s attire. “Let’s go, Alpha Elias,” I sneer and open the door for her. “Thank you, Alpha Ryker,” she replies in her thick and deep voice, sounding absolutely funny. I heap my plate with apple cider cheesecake cookies, porridge, and scrambled eggs for protein. My eyes wander to the stall of bagels with smoked salmon, cream cheese, sliced tomatoes, and onions, my lips curl up in a smirk when I find Azura filling her plate with three bagels. It’s her favorite food, she used to do the same when we were studying in this Academy. She even prefers bagels for a hangover, she’s crazy for food. Assholes around her stare at her with a mocking glare because she is petite and slim to eat this much but they will be surprised when she will eat more after finishing her bagels. Azura walks to me after grabbing two bottles of juice and smiles at me.
Azura As the rain falls relentlessly from the somber clouds above, my feet carry me through the quiet rows of headstones in the cemetery. Each droplet seems to echo the rhythm of my heart, heavy with sorrow and longing as my own teardrops stream down my cheeks. I stand before my father's grave, the damp earth beneath my shoes reminding me of the fragility of the situation I was in. With a trembling hand, I trace the letters of his name engraved on the weathered stone, feeling the weight of loss settle upon my shoulders once more. Amidst the downpour and chaos that my life has become, I find solace in the quiet solitude of the cemetery, a sacred space where memories linger like shadows in the rain. Still, that solace doesn’t last long as his pale face covered in blood flashes in front of my eyes and I ball my fists, restraining the boiling fury that empowers my emotions and threatens to consume me whole. My wolf is also in despair, but she tries to comfort me. It isn’t the righ
