The warmth of the moment held for only a few more seconds before someone cleared his throat beside the table.

Sebastian stood there with his gaze already on our joined hands. A faint smirk pulled at the corner of his mouth.

“Did I arrive at a bad time?”

I raised a brow without letting go of Samantha’s fingers.

“Yes. You did.”

Samantha only tipped her chin toward the empty chair, the earlier softness still lingering around her eyes.

“Sit down. We already ordered.”

  • Betrayed by my Husband, So I Took His Sister   I've Learned the Truth About the Images.

    >>>Samantha's POVI went back to the ward only long enough to tell Lawrence and Miguel I needed to step out, there was something I had to do. They said they would stay with her. I walked to the bed, kissed Mikayla softly on the lips, and whispered that I was going out and would be back as soon as I could. Then I left. The drive to Opticon felt longer than it was. The hospital stayed with me the whole way, a weight behind my ribs that wouldn’t ease. Once I was inside my lab I sat down, woke the computer, and opened the files Kevin had sent. My hands were not quite steady. For a moment I only stared at the screen. Then I went to the timeline Alicia had given me and started watching every angle of the turnover footage, almost afraid of what I might confirm. Not once was there a kiss. From the security camera’s view it was exactly what Alicia had described, Mikayla pointing something out on the documents, Alicia leaning in to check and no

  • Betrayed by my Husband, So I Took His Sister   Lawrence Blamed me.

    >>>Samantha's POVA sudden noise pulled me out of sleep.Voices, movement, the scrape of a chair, sharp enough that my body sat up before my mind had caught up. The private room felt crowded in a way it hadn’t when I closed my eyes. Afternoon light cut differently across the floor. And beside the bed, already folded in on himself, was Lawrence. He was sobbing openly, forehead pressed to Mikayla’s knuckles, the sound raw and unbroken.“You idiot,” he said against her hand, voice wrecked. “You absolute idiot. Why do you never listen? Why do you always do this to yourself!”Miguel stood behind him, one hand rubbing slow circles on his back, saying nothing. He just let Lawrence cry it out.I stayed on the sofa. I didn’t trust my legs, and I didn’t want to break whatever was happening at the bed. After a moment Alicia noticed me. She came over and held out a water bottle without making a show of it. I took it, and the small movement was enough to

  • Betrayed by my Husband, So I Took His Sister   I Faced the Source of my Jealousy.

    >>>Samantha's POVWhen the room finally emptied, I was alone with her. I pulled the chair closer until my knees touched the frame of the bed and took her hand. Her knuckles were cool under my thumb. I rubbed them slowly, the way she used to do for me when I was the one who needed steadying, and leaned in so my voice would reach her even if nothing else could. “It’s my turn now,” I whispered. “You’ve taken care of me for so long. Let me take care of you.” I kissed her knuckles and held there a moment, then her cheek where the skin was unbruised, then her forehead, careful of the bandaging, and last her lips, dry, still, familiar. Each kiss felt like a prayer I didn't know how else to say. I stayed bent over her hand afterward and told her again that I loved her, that I was here, that she didn't have to carry everything alone anymore. I couldn't sleep, until daylight seeped through the windows. When the clock passed seven, Daphne arrive

  • Betrayed by my Husband, So I Took His Sister   She's in a Coma.

    >>>Samantha's POVWaiting only made it worse.I cried until my eyes burned and my throat felt scraped raw, and still the doors stayed shut. Time stretched until it barely moved. Every minute sat on my chest like weight I could not shift. I lifted my head and watched the emergency entrance, the bright strip of light under the door, the muffled voices that never quite became words, the cold of the plastic chair against the backs of my legs. My hands would not warm up no matter how tightly I pressed them together. My stomach stayed knotted. Then my gaze found Kevin. The question left me ugly, emotions with nowhere clean to go.“Why did you let her drive?” My voice cracked on it, thick with tears I had not finished shedding. “She looked like she hadn’t slept in days. Why would you let her get behind the wheel like that?”Kevin looked at me. For a second his eyes were cold and firm, as if he was staring straight at the reason she had been r

  • Betrayed by my Husband, So I Took His Sister   Was I Too Late?

    >>>Samantha's POVThe line was still open against my leg when the room started moving again.I don’t remember deciding to leave. One moment I was standing in the middle of the office with Alicia’s sobs coming through the phone, with the next the corridor was sliding past and the elevator doors were closing on Daphne’s face. My hands didn’t feel like mine. The parking level arrived somehow. I was at the driver’s door with the keys already useless in my fingers when another call cut across the open line.Kevin.I answered because the screen said his name. My hands shook so hard the phone nearly slipped.“Don’t drive alone,” he said. His voice was firmer than Alicia’s, but I could hear how rough it was underneath. “Have someone take you. If you want to be here for her, you need to arrive in one piece.”I couldn’t answer him. Tears were already falling and wouldn’t stop. I ended the call and rang Daphne, asking her, quietly, because my voic

  • Betrayed by my Husband, So I Took His Sister   This Can't be Real.

    >>>Samantha's POVMorning light lay soft across the upper floors of Opticon Evo.From the lab side of the glass the city was still bright and clear, and the building held its usual early silence, the low hum of servers warming up, the distant click of a keyboard two workstations over, the faint cool of the air system moving through the open space. I had sent the message a few minutes earlier, before the morning brief, and still had not left my desk. I sat with one hand resting near the phone and looked out at the blue that had not yet hardened into the full day. This time the choice really was mine. No one had arranged the circumstances. No one had steered me toward her. It was just a decision I had finally been able to make for myself, cleanly. My heart would not settle, and it kept beating too fast at the simple thought of seeing her again, of telling her I chose her on my own, that I wanted to be with her, to talk through everything without anyt

The first light of dawn was just creeping in when I reached for the tent zipper, still wrapped around Claire’s warm body. One second of peace. That’s all we got. The zipper ripped open and rough hands yanked me out by my hair. I hit the dirt hard, pain exploding through my ribs. Claire screame

  • Betrayed by my Husband, So I Took His Sister   Torn Deeply With Guilt.

I walked back into campus after a week of hell, my body covered from head to toe. Long sleeves, high collar, and pants that hid the fading bruises my father had left on my back and arms. Every step still ached a little, but I kept my face calm. The second Claire saw me in the hallway, her eyes li

The heavy wooden doors of the Stonefield estate felt colder than usual as I pushed them open. My body was still buzzing from the afternoon with Claire, but the second I stepped into the living room, the high disappeared. My father, Silverstein Stonefield, sat in his massive leather chair lik

My back slammed against the cold metal door of the bathroom stall as I crushed my lips against Claire’s. The kiss was hungry, almost violent, like we’d been starving for each other all morning. Her strawberry lip gloss mixed with the faint taste of coffee on her tongue. My hand was alre
