ELYSE's POV

“I need you to stop coming close to me, please. Stay far away from me as much as you can, please.” I pressed my lips together to suppress the muffled sobs from my whimpering while I used the back of my palm to wipe off the tears that had overflown to my cheek as I sniffled.

“Elyse, you have to stop over reacting. Alpha's can have Luna's and breeders, more than one all the time, it's normal. Stop being so dramatic.” I blinked twice, staring up at the man I was supposed to get mated to later today. Saying that to me, like catching your lover and my step sister almost having sex was normal.

“Lucas, tell me really…are you thinking from your brain? Alpha's only choose breeders when their Luna is unable to produce an heir or when they can't find their fated mate!!” I yelled at the top of my voice, staring at the both of them in horror as Athena fumbled with the buttons of her shirt.

“He is an Alpha and is entitled to do whatever he wants, as he said, stop being so dramatic.” She rolled her eyes, standing up from the floor as Lucas turned to stare at her sharply.

“Oh don't look at me like that, someone has to give her a reality check.” Athena heaved a sigh as she smoothed her dress and looked over to me.

She leaned onto Lucas slightly and he kissed her lips, holding her waist as he pulled her in closer and my heart felt like there were reins attached to it and those reins were suddenly been pulled as hard as they could.

“Who do you think gave you the anonymous tip off to come here? As always, I'm better than you.” Athena signed yet again, ruffling her hair while muttering a curse word that was too inaudible for me to hear.

“So the only way you could prove it to me was to have sex with him? Doesn't that make you a cheap slut who would throw herself at anybody just to prove a point?” I was still glaring at Lucas when she raised a finger to stop me.

“Cry about it all you want, little bitch. You should know the only reason why Alpha Lucas would ever choose you is because since your father is dead, you're next in line to the throne ” She winked at me and I gasped, finally realizing what she said.

They had used me! Both of them and I had been stupid and blind enough to believe it.

“You're supposed to be my sister. And besides, aren't you mated to Felix?” I muttered, squeezing my dress like it could help number the pain and she rolled her eyes.

“And you should be dead, alongside your mother. I'm the one who should be heir to the throne.” She was saying and then trailed off while her eyes balls widened when she tried staring past my shoulder.

“Oh no, no, no Felix. This is definitely not what you think.” She gathered her gown in her hands as panic set in and I turned to see her mate standing in the hallway.

“It's not what i think? Then what the fuck am i seeing Athena? I got dragged here due to the mate pull that you were having an affair with someone else and I didn't even want to believe it. But the scene here? I don't even understand what it explains.” I gritted my teeth as I realized exactly what this was about to cost Athena in her bid to stop me from making the wrong choice.

It also doesn't mean that I'm okay with her method of letting me know.

“Guards, lock this guy up.” She said, flickering her fingers as she remained glued to Lucas’ body and once he gave the signal, the guards did as she instructed, dragging Felix out.

I wouldn't want to know what would happen to him.

“This is…”I tried saying as my breath hitched as I sniffled again, staring hard at the so-called Almighty Alpha Lucas.

“I do hope you know that this marks the end of our relationship right? I would never get mated to someone like you. How sad it is to me that you're even a pack leader.” I spat and made to walk away when he dragged me by my wrist, pulling me closer to himself as Athena stood by the corner.

“Now is not the time to make hasty decisions, Mia cara. Surely, there has to be a way for us to work this out.” He whispered, pressing his mouth softly to my neck and I cringed as I tried to pull myself away from him.

“Work it out? Work cheating out? Yeah, that's not exactly how relationships work. I'm going to go out there and cancel the ceremony and goddess be so kind, anybody asks me why I'm doing that, I'll be glad to tell them what kind of a dick sack you are.” His eyes turned dark as I said that while he spinned me around.

“On the goddess, Elyse. You will do no such thing.” He warned me and I crossed my arms over my chest.

“Fine, your lordship, Alpha Lucas. Watch me go out there and do exactly that.” I yelled and was about to walk off when I heard a bang against the door and almost magically, he was in front of me blocking the doorway.

“I can't let you Mar my throne with your runny mouth.” He said bringing out a dagger from his belt line and my heart skipped beats in fear.

“Lucas, what are you doing?” I began taking a few steps backwards as he approached me slowly with a mad and dark glint in his eyes.

3 years of dating this man and I have never seen such a monstrous look in his eyes before.

“Since you've agreed not to shut up, I'll help you do that.” The next instant, I gasped as I stared down at the particular spot where he had stabbed, I used my hands to cover up the wound yet warm blood kept pumping onto my hands.

“Lucas, why?” I fell to the floor as life oozed out of me while he used my dress to wipe off the blood.

“Athena…Athena, please help.”

“I can't let a low life destroy my reputation. I only accepted to be your mate because I thought you would be a legacy of your mother, a comet bearer but you're not.” I wrapped my hands across his legs and he pushed me off when we heard a gasp from the door.

“Oh my goodness.” I was dying yet seeing her shocked face made it all worse.

“Ollie, run.” I tried saying but she was too stunned to move and just as I expected, he caught hold of her before she would even think of escaping and stabbed her as well dumping her body close to me.

“Y'all can continue being best friends in the afterlife.” He smiled maniacally before walking out.

“Lucas….” I tried calling but my voice only came out as a whisper while I tried to hold his leg with my outstretched hands.

“Don't leave.” I pleaded as we laid in a pool of our own blood. Ollie, my best friend, didn't deserve such fate. Why did she have to come here of all places and be an eye witness? Why did she have to?

He was the Alpha and no one was going to hear of this or how we died, especially me. We were dying and Ollie was just too dazed to speak as blood spilled out of her mouth.

“Athena…” I called, crawling towards her direction as I tried to hold her legs but she just kicked me off.

“Athena, please help me. I promise…” I trailed off as the words got choked up in my throat and she rolled her eyes.

“It took him long enough to finally take care of you. Enjoy the afterlife, Sister.” She snarled, walking off with Lucas banging the door shut.

“Athena.” I whimpered placing my hands on my comet mark that was at the back of my neck while death finally enveloped me in its cold embrace.
