Chapter five

Natasha’s Pov

The annual party was today and I had no choice to attend as a representative for my family, since my parents and brother were overseas for business. Sidney had a prior meeting, so she would arrive later. My makeup was done and I put on a black silk gown that showed off my curves. My hair packed in a tight bun, diamonds on my ears and neck. 

As I stepped into the room, the air shifted, eyes followed me, whispering. I had been dubbed as the heartless fiancée who brought bad luck all thanks to Ashley. Liam's family was in charge of hosting the party this year.

 Liam walked up to me, putting on his million-dollar smile.

He hugged me kissing my cheek like everything was alright.

“I haven’t seen you in a while” he said being extra touchy.

“Yeah, I’ve been busy” I said. My eyes roamed around searching for Noah, I spotted him with a group of people.

“Let’s go somewhere quiet and discuss” he said dragging me to a quiet corner, away from the public.

“What?” I asked

“What about the contact with AJ enterprises, why the delay?” He asked

“I’m still working on it, it’s hard to get a reply with all the mess that has been going on, I’m sure they have gotten word about it” I replied him snatching my hand from his hold.

He ran his hand through his hair “And what about our wedding?” he asked

“What about it”

He hissed “Stop messing with me Natasha”

“I’m not, the wedding will happen but right now we have to think of how to get everything in order” I said to him.

He sighed “You are acting different” he said after a while.

Before I could reply Ashley came forward.

“I hope you don’t mind but I need to borrow Liam for a few minutes.” she said smiling

“I don’t” I said and left them.

I wanted to leave this party, servers passed with wine but I was too paranoid to take anything in case it has been spiked.

Noah walked up to me holding two glasses of wine.

“Here, I checked this, there is mothing in it” he said handing me a glass

“Thanks” I said but I still did not take a sip.

I looked up at Noah, he was dressed in an Armani suit that hugged his body perfectly, Noah was attractive. When we first met we had tried to date but it just did not work out until he introduced me to Liam. I wondered how the future would have been if I had married Noah instead.

Noah left me to go talk to a few of his friends, I dropped the glass of wine. I looked around to see if I could get a glimpse of Sidney, she was supposed to be here by now, Noah and Ashley were nowhere to be found.

The door opened and the air shifted, the noise dulled out replaced with whispers, even the musicians paused for a moment before they resumed. There in all his glory stood the most powerful man in the world, Lucas Wayne, he looked younger, more handsome. Everyone was confused as he had never attended such a party before. He walked into the room like he owned it. His presence demanding respect. His eyes swept through the crowd, when our eyes met it felt like the world stopped, in my daze I took a glass of wine from a server that passed by. It was only for split second but something flashed in his eyes, before he turned and walked to a corner. I released a breath I didn’t know I was holding ad took a full gulp of the wine, which I regretted almost immediately, it tasted wrong. I pulled out my phone to call Sidney, she didn’t pick up. I looked around searching for the nearest exit. My head felt heavy. Ashley appeared in front of me a devilish smile on her lips.

“Did she do this” I asked myself

“What?” I managed to say.

“Are you okay? You look sick” she said with fake concern

“Come let’s get you water” she said dragging me to the middle of the room

I tried to struggle with her and free myself, my limbs felt heavy.

 She pretended to hit the table filled with dessert, moving her hand so that the food fell on me. Everyone stared at me. I was beyond angry, I tried to get up but fell back due to the effects of the drug. Everyone stared, murmuring

How could she get so drunk?

She has no shame

Shame burned through me, this was not supposed to happen.

Ashley stood there staring at me, a faint smile on her lips while the crowd just watched, I looked around for Noah but he was nowhere to be seen.

I felt a jacket drape over me. A hand stretched out in front of me lifting me up.

I looked up and came face to face with Lucas Wayne.

He stared at me “Are you okay?” he asked but I was too stunned to speak. I saw Ashley, her face red due to anger.

“Natasha” I turned back and saw Liam walking towards us his hand stretched out. Lucas didn’t release me, he just stared at Liam

“Mr. Wayne She is my fiancée so I will take it from here” Liam said, bit Lucas had no intention of letting go.

“She has been drugged” he said calmly, the crowd gasped, everyone dropping their glass.

He turned and walked out leaving Liam stunned. The cold breeze brushed my face when we got outside.

“Natasha” Sidney yelled as she came running to us.

“What happened to you?” she asked

She looked up and saw Lucas, shock passing her face momentarily. 

“Where is your car?” he asked

“This way” she said still looking shocked.

When we stepped into the drive way, we were covered with paparazzi, I had to totally forgot about them. Immediately men in black covered us, which I assumed were Lucas bodyguards and maybe mine too. When we finally got to Sidney’s car my head felt heavy and I was doing everything in my power to keep my eyes open.

“Thank you so much” I heard Sidney say

“Thank you” I muttered as I closed my eyes.
