Chapter 3

Author: Ricordi
A few werewolves nearby rushed to defend Chanelle.

"Alpha, please don't be angry," one said quickly. "Chanelle's just upset—her mate dumped her last night, and she's been emotional ever since."

Another chimed in, half whispering, half gossiping, "I heard they spent the whole night together, and then he went off messing around with another she-wolf."

Chanelle sniffled loudly, grabbing a tissue from a male assistant and dabbing at her eyes.

"All male werewolves are the same—worthless!" she cried, before burying her head against the werewolf's chest, her gesture deliberate, taunting.

Nicholas looked calm, but his stiff shoulders betrayed him.

"The cup didn't hit you, did it?" he asked, turning to check me over carefully.

Only after confirming I was fine did he call over his assistant. "Take Luna out for a walk."

He adjusted my collar tenderly, the picture of a devoted mate. "I've got a special gift for you later at noon," he said to me.

But as he passed Chanelle, his voice turned cold.

"You're the lowest performer in the entire sales department of our pack. I expect a plan on my desk by noon. If I'm not satisfied, don't bother coming in next month."

The room went silent. No one dared to breathe until after he left—then whispers rippled through the office.

"Our Alpha can't stand Chanelle," one said. "No matter who messes up, he always blames her. He's always scolding her in front of everyone."

"Yeah," another replied, "last time he yelled at her for two hours straight. She came out with her eyes swollen and legs shaking—had to take two days off after that."

A chill spread through me.

So that was it. That was how Nicholas had kept his affair with Chanelle alive for a year—hidden behind false cruelty and public humiliation.

His assistant led me to the lounge, poured me a cup of coffee, and smiled politely. "Luna, your relationship with the Alpha is really something special."

I looked toward Nicholas's office and couldn't help the quiet laugh that rose in my throat.

"Is it?"

On my phone screen, the feed from the office camera flickered to life.

The moment he walked in, his whole demeanor changed. He slipped an arm around Chanelle's waist, leaning in to kiss her.

She turned away with a pout. "You left me out there last night. I caught a cold. I don't want your kisses."

Nicholas caught her hand, his voice soft, almost pleading.

"Baby, don't be mad, okay? I saw you with another werewolf earlier, and it drove me crazy."

Chanelle eyed him slyly, dragging out her words. "Then tell me—who do you love most in this world?"

He pulled her close, his voice low and thick. "Of course it's you. I could die on top of you and be happy."

Her smile widened. "What about compared to Julie? Who do you love more?"

His face darkened instantly.

"Chanelle," he said sharply, "the one I love most in this life is my Luna. Don't push this too far. Don't you dare let Julie find out."

Aya's voice burned in my head, 'Those two disgusting bastards!'

Chanelle flinched at his tone but quickly softened, tugging at his belt with a coy smile.

"I know. I won't bother Julie."

Nicholas's breath grew heavy. His hands slid beneath her blouse as he murmured, "Did you lock the door?"

"It's locked," she whispered. "Your Luna won't find out."

Then she kissed him. Their bodies tangled together, lost in each other.

My hands shook so violently that I could barely hold the phone. Every instinct in me screamed to storm into that office, to tear through the lie of us.

But Aya stopped me. 'Record it,' she said. 'You'll need proof.'

I hit record.

I couldn't understand it. Nicholas wanted her that much—so much that even with me still in the building, even in broad daylight, he couldn't control himself.

Where did that leave me? His Luna? The she-wolf he'd sworn before the Moon Goddess to love above all else?

What was his love worth now?

It felt like something inside my chest was being ripped apart by invisible hands.

Nicholas had been lying to me all along.

And I had no reason left to keep lying to myself.

It was time to leave him.

None of it mattered anymore. All he wanted to know was where Julie had gone.Even if they were no longer bound as mates, he only wished to stay near her, to see her happy.Mandy smiled faintly. "I'm sorry, Alpha. Luna never told me where she went. She just asked me to wish you and Chanelle happiness—and to tell you she hopes you have a pup soon."The words struck him like a blow. His whole body seemed to lose its strength. He gave a hollow laugh, one after another."Julie… without you, how could I ever be happy? You know better than anyone—there's only you. Chanelle… she was never anything more than a mistake," he muttered as he clutched at his hair, pulling until his scalp burned."Julie, I was wrong! I was wrong! I'm sorry…"When Mandy told me all this, I was in the royal capital, attending a meeting with the Alphas of the surrounding packs.Watching Nicholas's tears through the recording, all I fel

From that day on, Nicholas pushed away the last one who ever truly loved him.He spent his days in a fog of alcohol and grief, staring blankly at my photos for hours at a time. The sleepless nights and endless bottles soon caught up with him—he fell gravely ill. When he finally left the hospital, word of his condition spread through the pack like wildfire. The mated wolves of the Blood Shadow Pack began telling stories, romanticizing his love for me as something carved deep into his bones.Only one werewolf didn't join in.She sneered quietly and pulled from her drawer a beautifully wrapped box.On the lid, in bold letters, it read: To Nicholas. For Your Eyes Only.By the time Nicholas returned to his office, he was almost unrecognizable—thin to the point of fragility, his features hollowed. Those who saw him whispered as he passed. Many believed the pack would soon elect a new Alpha. But the Alpha once known for his boundless ambition felt nothing at all. Not until his gaze la

Nicholas pushed Chanelle off his body and reached for his jacket."No," he said flatly. "Something's wrong with Julie tonight. I need to go home. Get some rest."Chanelle's face twisted with fury. "Julie, Julie—do you care that much about that old wolf? If you love her so much, then why did you come to me?"Nicholas sighed, exasperated. Watching her cry made him soften, almost against his will, and he was about to console her when his phone rang. His assistant's voice came through, urgent and trembling. "Alpha! Did you pick up Luna yourself?"Nicholas froze. "What do you mean? Five hours ago, I told you to get her.""I did, Alpha," the assistant said, close to tears. "I went straight there after your message, but she wasn't in the car. I thought maybe she got delayed, so I waited. She never showed up."I even checked with the housekeeper, Biji. She said Luna Julie never came home."He immediately sensed me, but suddenly realized that he couldn't sense me anymore. It could onl

Nicholas had no idea—this was all part of a bet between Chanelle and me.Two days ago, she'd come to my door, arrogant and smiling, demanding that I step aside and give her my place.I couldn't help thinking how love really was a fool's tool. It could make even an omega werewolf dream of becoming a Luna. But I didn't refuse her.She wanted to compete—to see who mattered more to Nicholas. Those "suitors" who had crowded around her the other day, shouting their fake confessions, were nothing but hired actors. And Nicholas hadn't even stopped to think—how could any werewolf in the Blood Shadow Pack dare make such a scene outside the council chamber? He'd already lost himself to his emotions."Luna," Chanelle had said that day, her voice sweet and venomous, "no matter how much Alpha used to love you, you're getting old. No amount of makeup can hide the lines on your face."But me? I can stay by his side for a long time."She pointed at a public notice on the wall—my photo beside

The next few days, I carried on with Nicholas the way I always had—calm, composed, pretending nothing had changed. But whenever he tried to touch me, I refused.I told no one in the pack about my plan. Quietly, I began erasing every trace of myself from the Blood Shadow archives. Each record, each mention—gone. Then I kept up the act, following him to the office like any other day."Baby," he said one night, wrapping his arm around my waist, his lips brushing my neck. "You never liked coming to work with me before. Aren't you tired doing this every day now?"My whole body stiffened. I could still picture those same lips pressed against Chanelle's skin, and a wave of nausea rose in my throat.Aya's voice echoed in my mind, sharp and contemptuous. 'He's not worried about us being tired. He just doesn't want us interrupting his little rendezvous with Chanelle.'"Lately," he continued, oblivious, "the elders have been pushing us to have a pup soon."I smiled faintly. "Sure.""But

Two full hours passed before Nicholas finally pulled himself away from Chanelle's body."Darling, you went overboard," she said, her voice laced with a teasing whine. "I can't even walk now."Nicholas only chuckled, giving her a light slap on the rear."Already worn out? There's still another round tonight. Remember to wear that new lingerie you designed."Chanelle brushed his cheek playfully with her fingers."So, Alpha… does that mean you're satisfied with my sales tactics?"They lingered in each other's arms for a moment longer before composing themselves—pretending to argue as they stepped out of the office.Outside, Chanelle slumped over her desk, feigning distress, drawing murmurs of sympathy from her coworkers.Nicholas, meanwhile, darkened his expression and walked toward the break room. The moment he saw me, his entire face softened into a smile. But all I could see was how false it looked. So this was how it had been all along—how he had kept up his affair with Cha
