“Deviana, come in.”

The deep, commanding voice came from behind the frosted glass door.

Deviana swallowed hard, straightened her blazer, and carefully pushed the door open. Her boss’s office—Armand, a man in his early forties with an aura of unshakable authority—was always pristine and cold, every detail reflecting his uncompromising discipline.

Night still cloaked the city when Adrian parked his car in the far corner of an old café’s lot, nearly deserted. The streetlights flickered faintly, and the cold air bit through his coat. He sat behind the wheel for a long moment, reconsidering his decision.“Why am I doing this…” he muttered, rubbing his weary face. He knew Deviana would be furious if she ever found out. But Vanessa’s sobs from the night before still haunted him, echoing in his mind like screams he couldn’t silence. At last, with a heavy sigh, he stepped out. The café door creaked as he pushed it open. The smell of stale coffee mixed with dust filled the dim room. In the far corner, a woman sat hunched over, swallowed by an oversized black coat.Adrian froze. He barely recognized her.“Vanessa…” His voice came out faint. The woman lifted her face. Adrian’s breath caught. This wasn’t the Vanessa he knew—no trace of the cunning, confident woman remained. What sat before him was only a shadow of her former self: pale sk

Adrian’s phone buzzed softly on his desk. He had just finished closing the investigation files he’d been working on with Deviana. The clock showed it was nearly midnight. “I’m fine! Perfectly fine!” Vanessa raised her champagne glass high at the prestigious social event that evening. Her smile was far too wide, her laughter far too loud, prompting several guests to exchange uneasy glances.“Vanessa, you look… different,” a socialite whispered softly.“Different? Hahaha! What do you mean? I’m always dazzling, aren’t I?” Vanessa burst into laughter, but suddenly her eyes welled up with tears. The champagne glass in her hand trembled. “But… why is everyone leaving me? Am I no longer worth anything?”Confusion rippled through the room. An elderly gentleman carefully placed a hand on her shoulder. “Perhaps… you need some rest.”But Vanessa shoved his hand away. “Don’t touch me! You’re all the same! You’re all whispering behind my back, aren’t you?!” Her voice rose, freezing the room into silence.---Several paparazzi cameras present at the event quickly captured the scene.
