Molly’s pov

Dinner was awkward as hell, like I expected it to be if I’m being honest.

It started off from my mother having a problem with the outfit I picked out for the dinner.

“We both know you’re better than this, why do you wanna look so… basic?” She had demanded with her nose twisting in displeasure and that had rubbed me off the wrong way at once.

From the onset, I never planned on putting in much effort into this entire thing, because I never wanted to be here from the get go. But, clearly my mother wanted me to look my best because she was obsessed with gloating.

“What’s it to you? It’s just a freaking dinner, isn’t it?” I had shot back and she had let out a long sigh.

“Well, technically, yes, but there are so many people who’d be present who haven’t seen you in a long while and I want you to look your best when they see you.”

I had narrowed my eyes at her at once. “Just how many people are gonna be present at the dinner tonight?”

“Does it matter?” She had shot back.
