Chapter Five-Don’t Play Games With Me

“ How dare you, Damian!!, how dare you go back on our agreement?” A churlish voice yelled immediately after he picked up the call.

Damian rolled his eyes and wiped the sweat on his forehead off. Ava’s dad, Mr Grey was the last person he wanted to talk to today.

He summoned courage and replied,

“ Mr. Grey?, how may I be of help to you” Damian was trying to divert from the topic and it got Mr Grey irritated.

“ Don’t you dare play games with me Damian, you know exactly what I am talking about little boy.

Why did you go back on our agreement” Mr Grey asked and Damian could sense the anger in his voice.

“ I did not go back on my word Mr. Grey.

We had an agreement. I kept my word on my part, you and your daughter didn’t keep yours.” Damian replied, trying his best to sound confident.

On the other end of the phone was an angry man pacing to and fro in his study.

He was furious and had worry lines All over his face.

“ Don’t test me you little brat.

You will regret this Damian” he threatened.

Damian was scared but still tried to compose himself.

He clear his throat softly and said,

“ Mr. Grey, you asked for my help which I agreed to. We had an agreement but your daughter didn’t keep to her word, how now do you expect me to marry a lady that denounced and embarrassed me publicly.”

He exhaled deeply and continued,

“ Mr Grey, I will be getting married in a few days and I would appreciate it if you forget about this and find a way to sort out your company's problems.” He added and hung up before Mr. Grey could go further with his threats.

Mr Grey is Ava’s dad, while Damian and Ava were dating, Mr Grey had asked Damian for a Favour to merge their companies and Damian agreed to this only if he got married to Ava.

Damian was willing and ready to settle down with Ava but she chose to cheat on him with a photographer and this broke Damian.

Ava told him she was a virgin and he believed her not until he caught her having sex with Jeff, the photographer who lived next door to Ava’s house.

Even when he forgave her, she repeatedly made the same mistake and the last straw that broke the camel’s back was when he caught her kissing Jeff in front of the supermarket. He walked up to her and confronted her but Ava gave him the shock of his life and embarrassed him publicly.

He was ready to accept and forgive her again but she chose Jeff, telling Damian that he never cared about her and he is not as wealthy as Jeff.

When Damian tried to convince her, Ava accused him of being gay before everybody and left with Jeff.

Damian was made a laughing stock before everybody and left in shame.

Ava was the only girl he has ever loved right from his college days and he gave her almost everything she needed but it was never enough for Ava.

She chose to cheat on him with Jeff and Damian swore to have his revenge on her.

He could not explain the joy he felt when Jeff broke up with Ava and she came back begging him to accept her back which he refused.

It was nice seeing Ava beg him but Damian was still not satisfied because to him he must hurt her the same way she hurt him, he wanted to make her feel the pains he felt for days, weeks, and months.

When Damian’s dad told him about his arranged marriage to Layla Jones, his late friend’s daughter, Damian kicked against it but after realizing she is Ava’s best friend, he thought it was a good idea.

He knew exactly how to get Ava and he would do just that.

After working on the files that were piled up on his desk since he had been on break, he stepped out to Kelvin’s office to call him out for launch.

“ Hey bro, what’s up? Aren’t you going for lunch?” He asked Kelvin immediately he stepped into Kelvin’s office and noticed Kelvin was engrossed in his work.

Since they started working together, Kelvin will be the one to come over to his office to call him out for lunch but he didn’t today and he was still working even though it was lunch time already.

Kelvin did not respond nor look Damian in the face.

He pretended he did not hear anyone step into the office or speak to him.

Damian sensed it was because of what had transpired earlier and tried to explain it to his best friend.

“Don’t tell me you are going to act like you did not hear me talk to you Kelvin” Damian said, he was beginning to get pissed up with Kelvin’s attitude now.

“ Since when did you start keeping secretes Damian?” Kelvin finally spoke out.

Damian knew he was not going to talk to him and things won’t go back to how they were if he doesn’t tell Kelvin what he wants to hear so he tried to lie,

“ Well, it was Layla’s parents and my parents arranged this marriage since we were kids. How am I supposed to know she’s Ava’s best friend.” He lied.

Kelvin looked at me disapprovingly with a smirk on his face before replying,

“ You know you look stupid when you lie, always making it easy for you to get caught.

Listen if you are not ready to tell me the truth, you can as well leave. Don’t you dare try to make a fool out of me Damian, we saw both of them countless times coming out of Ava’s house” Kelvin retorted.

He knows and understands his best friend so well to the extent that he could sense it when I am lying.

Feeling quite embarrassed, Damian gave up and said,

“ Well I know I said I was going to get back at Ava for all the pain she had caused me but I never planned on using Layla.

Our parents have been friends for long and it will be so cruel of me to toy with her feelings.

My dad brought about this arranged marriage before his death and since I know I don’t have feelings for her, I kicked against it but my mom is adamant on her decision man” Damian explained and Kelvin opened his eyes wide in amusement.

“ That’s a lot, man. So does Ava know already” Kelvin asked?

“ Yes she does, she called me and was begging on the phone. Saying I shouldn’t go ahead with the marriage.” He replied to Kelvin.

“ I think I understand you and you have my support. So why did you act so cold to her earlier?” Kelvin asked with a genuine smile.

Layla was going to become part of their lives so it’s only right if he knew her better.

“ I can’t give a privilege only deserving of a wife” Damian said

“ Hmmm, aren’t you forgetting something, Damian?” Kelvin tapped him on the shoulder after recalling something.

Damian was confused and asked,

“What”.
