ログインLyra's POV
Luca's feline eyes studied me with newfound interest. The lazy grin faded, replaced by a wolfish purse of his lips. He tilted his head, and the gesture was so achingly familiar it made my chest ache. "Cassian. My half-brother, actually. Same dad, different moms." His gaze drifted to Eleanor, who was now trying to climb onto the office chair. "And unless I'm completely mistaken, which I'm usually not... that little girl has his hair texture, and bone structure." I couldn't bring myself to speak. "Lyra Edevane." He said my name continuously, like he was trying to figure out something. "Lyra... Edavane, mmn...." "Lyra. Lyra." Recognition flashed across his face. "Holy shit. You are her." "I—I don't…" "You are the wife that disappeared." "Ex-wife," I corrected automatically, then immediately regretted it. "Rail! Rail! Rail!" Eleanor chanted happily, oblivious to the tension between Luca and I, mostly the tense atmosphere on my part. He was finding amusement in this scenario. He leaned against the counter. "I need a second to mmn, should I say... process this." My voice came out higher than intended. "Does Cassian know you are here?" If he even knew that Luca was lodging in a place where my name was boldly written in the renting column, he would definitely know where I was. He shrugged. "I don't even talk to Cassian. We are like... oil and water, we don't mix. Different personalities, different lives—" His eyes went back to Eleanor. "How old is she?" "That's none of your business." "Two? Two and a half?" He was doing the math, I could see it happening behind those pale blue eyes. "Which means the kid is definitely his." "Get out." "Lyra—" "Get. Out." I moved to Eleanor, scooping her up despite her protests. "The lease is void. I'll refund your money. Please, just leave." "With what money?" He didn't move, he just crossed his tattooed arms over his chest. "You already spent it, haven't you? That is why you couldn't turn me away even after you heard my last name." I hated that he was right. "I don't care. I'll figure it ou—" "Does he know?" Luca interrupted. "About her. Does Cassian know he has a daughter?" I held Eleanor tighter. She had gone still, sensing my distress, her little hand patting my cheek. "Mama okay?" "Mama's fine, baby." I kissed her forehead, breathing in her baby shampoo scent. Then I looked at Luca, and I made sure he could see exactly how serious I was. "No. He doesn't know. And you are not going to tell him." "But—" "I mean it. Cassian and I had an arrangement, a business arrangement, and it only needed to last for three years. I was reluctant to end it and it ended up stretching to five, I decided to end it two years ago and I did. End of story.." "But she is his." "She's mine." The fierceness in my voice surprised even me. "She is my daughter. It's been two years and there's no need to revisit the past." Luca was quiet for a long moment. "Look, I get it. Family drama, secrets, complicated situations, that's basically the Rourke family motto." He shifted his weight, and his expression softened. "But I'm not Cassian. I'm not going to run and tell him anything. That's... that's between you two." "Then why did you bring it up?" "Because I was surprised. Never mind though. This is not my story to tell." "So what now?" I asked. "You just... stay here? For four months? Despite knowing who I am?" "Do you have the money to refund me?" "No…" "Then yeah. I will stay here." He held up his hands before I could protest. "But here is the deal. I keep my mouth shut. I don't tell Cassian, I don't tell anyone in the family. As far as I'm concerned, you are just my landlord and Eleanor is just your daughter... and that's that." "Why would you do that?" His grin returned. "I already paid. Might as well get something out of it." He turned back to his suitcases, wrapping his fingers around the handle. "But, we are still sharing that living room? Kapeesh?" He ran his pierced tongue across his lips. "I...okay fine, but we'll need to lay out some serious rules." "I'm usually a rule breaker—" I wanted to say something but he cut me off. "Sometimes." "Sometimes," he repeated, that wolfish grin still playing at his lips. "But for you, landlord, I'll try to behave." I didn't believe him for a second. Eleanor squirmed in my arms, reaching toward Luca. "Down, Mama. Wanna play." "Not right now, baby." "But Mama—" "Eleanor." My tone was louder than I intended, and she went still. I felt immediate guilt. "I'm sorry, sweetheart. Mama is just tired." Luca watched this exchange, still with that stupid grin on his lips. This boy was definitely a menace. He crouched down, meeting Eleanor's eyes. "Hey, little troublemaker. How about this, if your mom says it's okay, I'll show you some cool drawings." Eleanor's face lit up. "Dwawings?" "Yeah. I draw for a living. I'm pretty good at it." "Okay!" She wiggled free from my arms and took off running toward her room. Her bottom lip was no longer trembling and she definitely wasn't pouting. Drama queen. I stared at Luca. "You didn't have to do that." "She was about to cry. I don't do well with crying kids." He stood up, dusting off his jeans. I wasn't sure if I should thank him. "Right." I rubbed my temples, feeling a headache building up. "About those rules—" "Ofcourse, rules." "First, your wing is yours, the main living area is shared but Eleanor's toys stay there. If she is playing, you work around her, not the other way around." "Fair enough." "Second, no bringing... guests over. Especially not overnight guests." His grin widened. "Why, Lyra. Are you worried about my love life?" "I'm worried about even more strangers being around my daughter." "Relax. I'm not really the relationship type anyway." He started wheeling his suitcase again. "What else?" "No smoking. No drugs. No—" "I don't smoke, I don't do drugs, and I'm generally a model citizen despite the tattoos and piercings." He paused. "Well, mostly." "Mostly?" "I have a tendency to work late. Like, really late. Sometimes till 3 or 4 AM. I'll try to keep it down but sometimes I play music while I sketch. Is that going to be a problem?" I thought about my bedroom on the opposite end of the house. The walls were thick and pretty sound proof. "Mmn.." I tapped my chin. "What kind of music?" He paused. "Do you really want to know?"Lyra's POVKira immediately swung into action, instructing me to take off my clothes. I relicatnlty did, it felt like I was being held at gun point. As soon I was done, she helped me put the dress on. I was about turning to the mirror when she stopped me. “No, no. Not yet. You'll have to wait until the final touch before checking yourself out.”“What? That is ridiculous. What if the dress looks awful on me to begin with?” I protested.“Just trust me!” Her voice echoed through the room.I instantly sat back down and made myself vulnerable to whatever she had in mind. She pulled out this huge box from her bad. “How did that even fit in there...”She opened it and there were so many makeup tools. Many, I haven't even seen before in my entire life. That was odd, considering I've been around longer than her.Her found it's way to the first tool and she began. I stayed on the spot, moving only when told to. This went on for over thirty minutes..One tool after the other, it felt like a cons
Lyra's POV“Lyra? What in the world are you doing in here, Hoping you'd find pictures of me hanging around?” Luca teased.I scoffed, “I can I explain, I was just came in here to check on you incase you arrived and I didn't know. So you don't need to dwell on it, I haven't even spent two minutes in here.”He smirked, “You are slightly explaining too much. The details wasn't really necessary.”I gulped, because I realized he was right. I could have given a simplee explanation and he wouldn't even argue.Feeling embarrassed, I approached the door to leave. Luca stood in my way, “I couldn't say you could leave just yet.”I clenched my fist, “Now you are getting on my nerves again. You surely need to rest and so do I.” I said.“Fine, Fine. I was just messing with you.” He said and chuckled. He moved aside for me, I walked but stopped as soon as I reached him, before turning around. “Is that your mother? The portrait.”Luca's eyes found it's way to the photo hung on the wall. “Yes..that is
Lyra's POVI took a deep breath, “What do you have planned for your birthday? ”He raised his eyebrow, “If I'm being honest, I have nothing planned. Maybe I'll just have a few drinks with my friends and yes... that's it.”“Alright that is blunt...” I muttered. “I was thinking of something better, There's a fancy restaurant down my workplace. We could go together and have a nice dinner, bills on me of course.”Luca's eyes widened, he surely wasn't expecting that I approach him with such. He cleared his throat, “Umm, that was sudden and intense. It almost doesn't sound like it's just a dinner.”I immediately got defensive. “Oh it's just a diner for your birthday. It's not like it's a date or anything.”He smirked, “I didn't mention anything about a date.”Luca successfully tricked me into revealing what I hid. I scoffed, “Do you agree to the dinner or not. You cannot toy with me however you wish.”“Not yet.” He muttered.“what?”He shook his head vigorously, “Oh I meant alright. It's a
Lyra's POVKira squinted her eyes, “Is this person by chance living with you, a member of the Rourke family? Huh?” She asked.“Yes..wait what! Why are you been specific!” I exclaimed on realizing what she meant. She laughed hard at my face. “I knew it, I fucking knew it. Now what might you two have going on? Tell me everything already.”I sighed, “ It's nothing serious. Just help me with an idea here.”Kira smirked, I was instantly regretting the decision to ask for her help. “Now, what you need is the perfect gift. Something not too big or you'll seem desperate, and something not too small or you'll seem ungrateful.”I squinted my eyes, “You seem to know more than I already told you. But you might be slightly overthinking this, it's just a simple gift for his birthday.”“Yes! That is why you must choose carefully. Give him something he'll always remember.” Kira Insisted.“And that is?” I asked. She moved closer to me. “A nice little dinner date.” Kira said with a bright smile.I pull
Lyra's POV.I looked up to see Kira. For some reason, it felt like I hadn't seen her in months. But we still spoke just two days ago.“Oh hey, Kira. You look great as always.” I said and walked past her.“I look great? I left you so many texts and calls, where in the world have you been?” She asked sternly. Now that she said it, I recalled that I haven't checked my phone in two whole days. I had grown so apart from the phone and barely care what was going on with it.“umm, I'm sorry. There was so much I had to deal with and it wasn't the best of time to reply texts. I'll make it up to you.” I said and attempted to leave but she stopped me.“Not so fast, he wants to see you. He's been waiting in his office since you left. This seems like it's the last day we'll spend together. It was fun whilst it lasted, Lyra.” She said with a pitiful stare.I scoffed and walked to the lockers. After changing, I went straight to his office.Desmond quickly shut close his laptop the moment I walked in.
Lyra's POVThe ride to the hospital was exceptionally silent, we would normally say something petty but it was utterly quiet this time. There was only one reason this would happen, the previous night. I was still struggling to figure how and why I did it.Something suddenly came over me and I kissed him. My heart stopped for a moment , it was if I wasn't moving my body myself.I spent almost the whole night awake, pondering on what happened. One thing was certain, I felt attraction for him, that was why my body moved instinctively.I turned to him as the car moved along the road, our eyes met but he stared away instantly. It wasn't hard to figure out what was going through his mind. The car glided and parked in the hospital's lot moments later. We all hopped out and headed in once more.A nurse recognized us and immediately led us to the doctor's office. Luca and I stepped in, our eyes met with the doctor's.“Oh, it's you two. Please come in and take your seats.” He urged us.We sat d
Lyra's POVLuca was more than pissed this time. His feline eyes had gone dangerous."Maelis, you have no right to call Cassian here. You have no right to stalk me, or to stalk Lyra. This is her house, in fact, this is practically an invasion of privacy. This is—""Oh, shush, boy. Shush." Maelis wav
I squeezed my eyes shut so fast I nearly gave myself whiplash."Oh my God—""Shit—" Luca released me immediately, and I heard the sound of fabric rustling as he scrambled to retrieve the towel. "Okay, okay, don't...just give me a second.""I'm not looking!" My voice came out strangled. "I am NOT lo
Lyra's POVThe next morning, I woke up and the first thing I did was to go check if the door had been fixed. I had texted John, the handyman to come fix it very early.I walked into the living room to see a white paper on the table. My mind skipped, did Theron send another message already?Slowly,
Lyra's POVI shifted my gaze to Luca, waiting for him to spill whatever they were holding in. Luca however was suddenly out of words. He had been vibrant all along but was suddenly quite, this was already showing the secret might be of importance.“You can't speak anymore, Luca? I thought you had a
