Mag-log inLyra's POV
The eyes were similar to his, striking pale blue but warmer somehow. This man was taller, maybe six-four. And his skin was sun-kissed caramel where Cassian's had been light porcelain. His hair was darker, almost black instead of Cassian's platinum blonde hair. And his features, while similar in structure, were less softer. "Hi," I managed to mutter. I shifted Eleanor higher on my hip and tried to remember how to breathe. "You must be.." "The tenant, yeah." He grinned a lazy, easy grin. "Sorry if I startled you. You looked like you had seen a ghost there for a second." I forced a laugh that sounded hollow even to my own ears. "No, I just... you reminded me of someone for a moment. My mistake." Eleanor chose that moment to grab a fistful of my hair and yank. Hard. "Ow—Eleanor, baby, gentle." The man's grin widened, and he crouched down slightly to be at Eleanor's eye level. I then realized he had a split tongue, and black gemstone studs on his ears. "I smell mischief in you. I like it." Eleanor giggled and buried her face in my shoulder, suddenly shy. I swallowed hard, trying to regain my composure. Trying to be a normal, functioning adult instead of someone whose past had just walked up to her doorstep wearing a stranger's face. "I'm Lyra," I said, awkwardly shifting the cupcake tray so I could extend my hand. "Lyra Edevane." He took my hand, and his palm was cold. Unusually cold. "Great. I'm Lucanoisan. Luca for short, actually." I could swear I had heard that name somewhere. In fact, many times. I ransacked my memory, and when it came to me, I took a step back. "W-What is your last name?" "Hugon....?" I shook my head. "No..no...uh. your unofficial last name." He looked surprised at that. "Oh. Rourke." Fuck. The cupcake tray slipped from my grip and crashed to the porch floor, buttercream splattering across the wood. Eleanor gasped. "Mama! The cuppycakes!" But I couldn't move. "Lyra?" Luca's voice seemed to come from very far away. "Hey, are you okay? You just went really pale." Rourke. Four months. I had agreed to rent my home to someone for four months. And that someone was a Rourke. Eleanor immediately scrambled for the counter and dragged down the wet rag. "Mama?" I cleared my throat and stood up, patting her hair and forcing a smile. "Hehe. Clumsy me." I turned to the man in front of me who stood with his brows arched awkwardly. "Um, Luca. Yeah? Please come in." I stepped aside and held the door open. I couldn't snap out of it. I kept looking at his face while he dragged his suitcase in. When he entered the living room, he looked around, shrugging slightly. "So...I guess my wing is on the other end?" Maybe there was a possibility that this was just a simple coincidence. "Uh... Lyra?" Afterall people shared similar features with other people all the time. "Um... Hello?" It had to be. I snapped out of it when Eleanor yanked on my dress. Equally looking at me weird. "Oh... hey, sorry..I...uh.." I massaged my forehead. Great. I'm officially a weirdo now. "Everything okay?" "Mm hm. I'm just... a little bit under the weather that's all." I gestured towards the other end. "Come, let me show you to your new home. For the next four months." He followed quietly and shrugged. But I didn't miss the way he looked at Eleanor. "Your daughter could pass for a mini-me." He chuckled. I felt my nerves kickstart again and evaded giving a response. "This will serve as your living room." "Wait, isn't this like... an office space?" I nodded. "Yes. But it is moderate enough to serve as a living room for your guests and you, your room is quite big. Almost as big as mine, so I'm sure... you won't mind." He crossed his arms and I noticed the intricate pattern of vines that crawled up to his wrist. Tattoos? His eyes followed my line of sight. "Yes. Any problem with them? The agent said you weren't a prude so..." "Ofcourse I'm not. I just...have never seen tattoos like those." He leaned in. "Colourful? Extravagant? Sexy?" My lips parted and I closed them almost immediately. "We are discussing the living room arrangement. You just moved in and you are flirting with me?" Eleanor was far from earshot. "I don't fraternize with college boys." A gleam passed his eyes and they appeared even more feline. He stepped back and placed his hand on his suitcase. "That wasn't flirting. It was simply a question." His physique. Ear studs, tongue piercing, slightly disheveled hair. The fact that such a powerful surname like Rourke fit him so well could only tell me one thing about him. He was definitely going to be trouble. "Look. Just... take the office space or whatever. The main living room is where my daughter likes to play. And it's not part of your wing." He flashed me a smile. "I paid a lot of money for comfort, I deserve it, don't you think?" "Well. If we are to live peaceably and successfully co-exist, I'd prefer you follow my rules and regulations." I was trying too hard to not get intimidated by his build, or heavy gaze. His arms were crossed and my feet were fixed. "I'll give you 300 bucks if you allow me to share your living room. Deal?" I shook my head. "400 bucks then." "No." "500 bucks?" "No." "Hm. In case you are assuming that I am a danger to your child because I don't look like a prim and proper golden boy with a gold stick in his hands. You are wrong. I am a very responsible adult." The dramatic way he put his hand on his chest and declared that made me doubt it even more. But for some reason, Eleanor found him very funny. "You're like what... Twenty four? Well, young man, I'm twenty seven. Meaning I am older, and by virtue of that you should listen to me." He waved his hand dismissively. "A three year gap? Come on, I've railed women in their fortie—" I gasped. Eleanor giggled. "Rail momma! Rail!" I glared at Luca whose lips were pursed. "Sorry. I'm not used to being around children." "You—" "Especially ones that look like my brother."Lyra's POVEleanor jumped up the instant she saw me walk in, “Mother!” Her voice echoed through the room. My mother was seated and holding a book when I walked in.I shut the door behind me, “That is unusual, you reading a book.”“I am beginning to take interest in different hobbies now. Books are quite hooking, I have not been able to drop this one in an hour.” She said with a smirk.Eleanor approached me again with a bright smile, “He was here, he brought me a new toy. I'll go grab it!” She dashed off and return in lightning speed, holding a stuffed bear.I grabbed it and stared in confusion, “Who brought you this?”“Mr Luca.. he was here.” Eleanor said with a bright smile. My heart skipped, “Luca was here...Mother, Luca was here? Why didn't you tell me that?”She lowered the book she was holding, “You didn't know he was coming? Well, he just said he was around the neighborhood and decided to stop by and say hi. It's nothing serious.”I took a deep breath, “It was the first time Luc
Lyra's POVI flagged down a taxi and headed for the police department after they left with Luca and Cassian. My night had started normal and ended up going completely insane. All because I accepted to go on a date with Cassian, a decision that immediately backfired. “Please drive faster.” I blurted at the cab driver as we moved along the road.“This is the fastest I can go legally, do you want me detained too?” He asked with a stern look.I sighed, the situation was too tense that I was loosing my mind. “ It's all my fault, they will all blame me for this. What have I done?” I muttered. Many thoughts ran through my mind, it was too much for me to handle. The ride ended when we reached the police headquarters. I quickly jumped out of the vehicle and headed in.“Hey, wait miss! You haven't paid me!” The cab driver yelled at me.I gasped and turned back to him, reaching for my purse. A fifty dollar bill caught my eyes first, I grabbed it and handed it to the driver before dashing off wit
Lyra's POV The door opened, I stared out at Cassian who was holding the door for me. “Thank you..” I muttered as I stepped out. He offered his hand,I shook my head quickly. We both headed into the restaurant. It was my first time here but it didn't seem like that with Cassian. The moment we walked in, the workers all smiled and greeted him warmly. A table was already reserved for us, I sat down and continued staring around. “You had all these prepared knowing I might not even accept to come?” “I am a great friend with the owner of this restaurant, he let me dine her for free. Surely it wouldn't be a waste to reserve a table.” Cassian said and chuckled. He sat down and waved his hand, A waitress spawned out of nowhere and asked for our order. Cassian spoke to her and turned to me, “What do you want?” “ I'll take the same thing with you.” I muttered. My eyes met with the waitress's, she glared at me for a moment before looking away. I was unsure why she seemed uncomfortable
Lyra's POVThings appeared to ease down after that night, Cassian seemed to have got a lot on his hand. He didn't show up or call for a few days. Luca and I got to spend a lot of time together, our bond growing stronger. But the peace didn't last forever, as Cassian would suddenly arrive one evening whilst I was at home alone. I had dropped Eleanor off at my mother's with plans to hang out with Luca later in the day.Cassian's car pulled up and I initially thought it was Luca. The doorbell rang and I could immediately tell it wasn't him.Reluctantly and carefully, I approached the door. I pulled the door open to see Cassian, my jaw dropped open. “Cassian...what are you doing here again? I thought you'd have given up showing here to see Eleanor, she is not even here this time.” I stated.“I am not here for her today, well not entirely. I came for you, we cannot let this happen. Eleanor needs both of her parents for a healthy life.” Cassian blurted.I scoffed and rolled my eyes, “You al
Lyra's POVLuca glided and parked in the lot of the supermarket, the tense ride had finally ended. I turned to him, “Thank you for the ride, you should watch your back as you head to your campus.” I said meekly. He continued staring at me, the situation turned awkward immediately. Suddenly, he pulled me close and planted a kiss on my lips. Our lips parted, my breathing was uneven.“How am I just seeing how beautiful you are today? I must have still be drunk from last night.” Luca blurted. My face turned red, I quickly hid it. I cleared my throat, “I should go, I am already late.” I quickly stepped out of the vehicle, forgetting to shut the door behind me.I realized this and turned around to shut the door, Luca wore a smirk, he shut the door himself and drove off. I sighed deeply, the intense moment was finally over.Quickly, I made my way into the supermarket. On entering, my eyes immediately met with Kira as usual. She looked surprised to see me this time. After I had changed, I jo
Lyra's POVI woke up the next morning and gazed at Luca who was still sleep next to me. His face looked so innocent and calm, it didn't seem like it was the same person that was drunk at a party the previous day.Slowly, I sat up to leave the room without waking him up. The moment my feet touched the floor, his eyes opened.“Lyra...what are you doing here?” He asked with sleepy eyes.I rolled my eyes. He rubbed his head, as he finally recalled everything that happened. “Oh..”He muttered.“I should go, I have a lot to do today.” I said and rose up to leave. He held my hand as soon as I was about to leave the room. “Thank you, Lyra.” Luca muttered. I gazed at him, unsure of what to say.A smile formed on my face, that seemed enough. I left the room afterwards, slamming the door behind me. I stood by the doorway for a while, sinking in everything that happened the previous night. It was still shocking to me that I agreed to spend the night with him. “What the hell are you doing?” I sighe
Lyra's POVHis tongue was clearly forked, and pierced. And it kept swiping at the bottom of his lip. It was incredibly distracting for an eerie reason. What was so mysterious about the kind of music he listened to?"What are you all of a sudden?"I didn't know the answer to that myself."Um, whatev
Lyra's POVLuca's feline eyes studied me with newfound interest. The lazy grin faded, replaced by a wolfish purse of his lips.He tilted his head, and the gesture was so achingly familiar it made my chest ache."Cassian. My half-brother, actually. Same dad, different moms." His gaze drifted to Elea
