Between alphas
Between alphas

Origins

I knew little about the world of wolves, I had only been warned to avoid the alphas at all costs, because I was one too, and if they were not familiar there was some rivalry for some things, plus they had aggressive behavior towards others.

At that time the world was divided between normal people, wolves and vampires. Humans did not know of the existence of these two races, by decision of both parties avoided this at all costs and tried to live in harmony with each other, there were laws about coexistence. They should never mix any of the two. That was totally forbidden, although the only thing we had in common was the existence of the Alphas, Betas and Omegas, which was handled in the same way.

In that balanced way. Nobody broke the rules and had control of some things, although it was not something that would last forever, there was always someone who damaged everything.

One day I witnessed a battle between two wolf packs. It was night and everything around was dark, the only thing that illuminated the area was the moon. Of the two packs that were fighting place. I had heard that there was a rivalry to prove who was the stronger of the two, but what sparked that incident was that a member of one of them had caused a feud between wolves and vampire. One of the Relish, his name was Denver a young boy of 24 years old by his attitude hurt a little bit everything he had worked for all these years. He had an affair with the daughter of one of the heads of the vampires.

Faced with this mistake, one of the wolf families decided to challenge the other. Seeing that he did nothing to restore the damage he had caused. The peace that was lived between races had been broken and this would radically change the quiet life we all lived.

I was an alpha and did not belong to any of those families, so I preferred not to intervene and I left. Unfortunately I was there at that very moment. Everything was happening on a road that led to some farms where food was grown and walks were organized. I had come to pick up some things that my stepfather had left in some houses that I had arranged. Worst of all, it seemed to be a full moon and most of the wolves were at their physical peak. This made combat more dangerous for anyone.

There was constant howling and sounds of fighting. It was frightening, the strength of both families was impressive. Some trees had fallen in that place. I stopped to look at everything, but I decided to start my bike and tried to get away from the place as fast as possible.

[...]

The next day I woke up very sore. I didn't know what had happened, I didn't remember anything, not even how I had gotten to where I was. I was in an almost empty room, in a bed with white sheets and light coming in through the window was hitting my face.

I felt very strange, my body ached. As if I had fought last night, but there were no blows on my body.

I got out of bed and tried to get out of that room, but apparently it was locked. It looked like I had locked myself in there. I knocked on the door several times to get them to open it. Until someone deigned to answer and opened the door a little. I could only see his shadow, since he only spoke to me and avoided looking at me.

-You must wait for one of the gentlemen to come and talk to you. I can't let him leave.

He immediately closed the door abruptly.

I was worried. If they wouldn't let me leave that place, it was because I had done something. I knew that the most powerful families in this city were cruel and quite mean to those they hated, but I never thought of being in the middle of this.

I leaned against the wall and sat there. I just waited for someone to come to me and explain what I had done to get locked up here.

[...]

I spent almost an hour waiting for someone to show up and talk to me. Until I saw the door open, and a girl came into the room.

She had brown hair and green eyes, a round face, and a kind of mole on her cheek. She came up to me and started talking to me.

-What were you doing outside of town yesterday?

-I just went to pick up some things my dad left at a house he was fixing up.

-Well, I don't really believe you, some say you're a vampire spy, so you'll be interrogated by the ten most important families.

-What? It's unfair!

-It's strange because you were precisely at that time and in the middle of a fight, knowing the war we are about to start.

I got a little angry when I heard that, I was just going to get some things, and I didn't know anything about the fight between those families. It was very dangerous to be judged by them. Usually people who were judged always ended up executed.

I got up from the floor and tried to see my way out of there, but she spoke to me.

-If you're thinking of running away, I'll warn you at once... there are dozens of men there, so it will be worse for you. You'd be proving that you're guilty.

-But... you know that no one has ever come out of a trial innocent of them.

-Every single person who's tried them had serious indications of being guilty. So there's not much to do.

I was very worried. All the evidence was seriously incriminating, no matter how hard I tried to explain it. It was clear that I was in the wrong place at the time.

It only occurred to me to do something to gain a foothold. I knew who this girl was. She was the daughter of one of the most powerful families. One of those who fought yesterday, she was deceived by that man who broke one of the rules between the races. Her name was Cassandra, that girl was his girlfriend and she was going to marry him. It was a mutual agreement between both families, for power, but now she was an abandoned woman, someone who had to seek refuge in someone else. So I offered to be her lover. I felt that this was my last salvation.

-If I become your mistress, would your father help me?

-What

-I know who you are and what you are going through. I am an alpha and I could help you with this. I'm willing to do anything to become your lover to save my life. I'll do anything you ask me to do.

-You have a lot of nerve to say that to me.

She looked annoyed when she heard me speak, but she started looking me up and down.

I wasn't ugly, I was 24 years old, black hair and blue eyes, I was a little tall and I tried to keep in shape. I worked out every day.

After being silent for almost two minutes she answered me.

-It's okay, he could be slower and it would take at least a month to collect the evidence to prove your innocence. It's not that I like you, but at this moment I think it's excellent to get another man to rub it in Denver and his family's face. I'll talk to my father, but don't try to escape or you know how this will end.

She left and closed the door. Hearing that put my mind at ease. I was just worried about how this would all play out from now on. I wasn't someone very attractive, and the girl had to show that we knew each other or something. She had to show that there was something more between the two of us, and that worried me. The wolves clearly sensed that scent of a couple that had those instincts to mate with each other.

[...]

I stayed in that room all day without eating anything, apparently it was part of their punishment. I felt very weak, but when night came a man opened the door.

He was a man of about fifty years old, with short hair, green eyes, somewhat square faces and a beard in the shape of a padlock.

-So you're that guy who wants to buy time. The bad thing is that you don't come from a classy family. What you are asking for is stupid, I don't know how she imagined touching someone as basic as you. I deny this deal with you.

-She doesn't see that the one who suffers the most is her daughter. A woman deceived and left for a vampire. Doesn't she feel anything?

The man looked a little annoyed to hear that. Deep down he did resent what his daughter was going through and he knew there was nothing more he could do. Infidelity was something that no one could put up with and even more so a father who was hurt by what was happening to his daughter.

-If it is proven that you are a traitor it is all over and I will leave you.

-I know.

-I know who your parents are, and who you are, so if you think of doing anything I will kill your family.

The warning left me a little disturbed, I had to avoid doing something stupid, I didn't want my family to suffer for my actions, but I was very right to do this. I was innocent.

-It's okay. I won't do anything.

The man walked out the door and two men guarding the entrance slammed it shut.

Again I stood there locked in that darkness. I was still very worried about what would happen to me from now on. This time I decided to lie down and sleep, I only had the hope that the family would accept my proposal and get out of this senseless confinement.

[....]

The next day I woke up to sounds of fighting, it seemed that a group of wolves had a very unique fight in that place.

I was a little curious as to what was going on. There was another confrontation between the most powerful families. Glass and vases could be heard breaking all the time. I felt that it was something very violent, because of the multiple blows that I heard everywhere. It lasted more than an hour. Until everything was silent.

I looked out the window and saw several people walking down one of the corridors of that place. I wondered what had caused such a commotion. However, my answer was solved in a few seconds. The door suddenly opened and someone came in.

That girl walked in and spoke to me.

-My father accepts your deal, but you will have to live with me.

I didn't like to hear that at all. Simulating a relationship was easy at a distance, but close was impossible, living together always damaged the spark between couples. I didn't stay silent and let him know.

-It's difficult. I didn't..

-There was a fight over your issue...you know I had to tell a lot of lies to clarify our relationship. I came off as a bad woman.

-But I see you enjoyed that...

-I mean...

-I'm not going to deny it, Denver and his whole family couldn't believe it. That caused a fight between the two families.

She had a mischievous smile that showed she was satisfied as all that happened, it was a good sign for me, but I knew that with that I was more or less off the hook, but I had to pretend we had a relationship.

The girl shook my hand from one moment to the next.

-Come on, you can leave this place now.

I took her hand without hesitation, but I knew that what had happened was a problem for me. Men could not stand to be unfaithful, not even when they were dating, despite the generational change, there was still that machismo about this issue.

[...]

When I left that room I noticed that I was not in a prison, or anything like that. It was just someone's mansion with dozens of rooms. The corridors of that place seemed to go on forever, as we walked away from that place. I could see the marks of the fight in that place. Many vases had been broken and the walls were scratched all over.

My ex-boyfriend's father was very angry. He is a very proud person and he didn't like what he heard, so he tried to hit me. My brother reacted and the fight started.

I was a little terrified, I knew how difficult it would be to be calm from now on, but I had to ask him, I still wasn't sure what he had said in that meeting.

-What did you say to them?

-Well...I told him that I never loved him, that I was only with him, because of the pact between families, but he disgusted me every time I was with him. And months ago I started dating you and you were much better than him.

My face started to turn red, and I felt scared. Now Denver really wanted to hit me and I had earned the hatred of his family too.

The girl noticed that I was worried about what had happened. She didn't hesitate to talk about it.

-Don't worry. They can't do anything to you. For now you are part of the family and a while ago it was made clear that if they do anything to you, they will lose their position as the leaders of the city. No one can kill a member of another powerful family.

-I don't understand how it was decided who the leaders of the city are...is it because of the money?

-Not only for that. It takes both for several generations always the leader is alpha. His instincts guide the herd of each family, but that was years ago. Now my generation wants to take that away. The only thing that could never be overturned is interbreeding. Wolves and vampires have their customs, a union between the two is impossible.

-And what will they do to Denver?

-The meeting made it clear that they must negotiate peace whether they want to or not with the vampires. No one wants to go to war with them. That family is obligated to do so.

She looked happy, humiliated the man who had deceived her, but despite that she looked a little worried about something.

Immediately several men who seemed to be her bodyguards came towards us. By their smell I noticed that they were also wolves, just like us, they were in their human form. They just scared me. They were all tall and fairly well built, but some of them had wounds on their bodies. So I deduced that they had probably fought too.

That girl took me to her car. We both entered the car as if nothing had happened.

The guards also entered the vehicle, but in the front part.

Casandra leaned on me, as if trying to simulate in front of them, I followed her game, but a little nervous. I knew perfectly well that her father might not like this. He just wanted to annoy Denver's family.
