LOGIN“Me? Married?” I stuttered, still trying to process his words.
“Arrangements have begun. I need to strengthen my alliance with the pack of Eirengale.” My father announced coldly. “But alpha, she's still undergoing her training to unlock her abilit…” “The training ends now. Instead, train her for marriage.” My father dismissed Jada as she tried to intervene. He exited the room without saying anything else. I look at Jada and my mother and burst into tears, covering my face with my palm. Jada came to my side, allowing me to bury my face in her chest. “It's going to be okay.” She whispered. “Is this how I'll be married, like an exchange?” I sobbed, my voice breaking down as I cried. “Mom, you're in support of this?” I turned to look at her, unable to believe my plight. “Marriage is not bad dear. It's going to be a double celebration, your 21st birthday and wedding on the same day.” “In three days!” I shouted as I processed her words. “I'm getting married on my birthday which is in three days?” “I think you should wear the red fabric.” She said, ignoring me as she brought the cloth closer to my body. “It suits your skin.” My mother left the room, leaving me alone with Jada. My chest kept rising and falling and I refused to be comforted. “You're going to get a severe headache if you keep crying non stop.” Jada placed a palm over my forehead which was burning. “The marriage may not be so bad.” She tried to comfort me. I shot her a hard glare, feeling hurt by her words. “I didn't mean it that way. I wish I could do something to help.” She shrugged her shoulders before cleaning the streaks of tears from my face. “Wait here. I'll get you water to drink, after we can talk.” She said before leaving me alone in the room. I resumed another round of crying. I heard a familiar voice whistle at the entrance and I turned to see Sasha standing there. She was my adopted sister. Why don't they marry her off instead? I hissed as I cupped my face with my palm. “I heard you're getting married.” She sat on the table in front of me, swinging her legs in an annoying manner. “I know you're here to laugh at me and be happy that you're not the one. Just leave.” I snapped, hiding my face in my hand. “I actually have news about your arranged suitor. I know him.” She announced, running her hand along her veil. “Most of his former wives and mates are dead. I don't advise you to marry him.” I raised my tear soaked face. “What do you mean?” “He’s cursed and cruel. Run away.” Sasha advised. I stared at her as she warned me. “Or you can stay and die like the others.” “You don't know anything, just shut up.” I snapped, knowing that Sasha never helped if she won't benefit. “It seems like you prefer to suffer. I can help you to escape.” She smirked, standing up from the table to move around the room. I scoffed and refused to offer a reply. The idea of escaping was something I wanted to do since my parent's announcement, but I doubted if I could do it. My mind wasn't really comfortable with Sasha's escape offer. “Not interested?” She shrugged her shoulders and walked towards the door, abandoning me in the room. I watched her figure retreat towards the door. I didn't want this marriage. I'll escape if I have the chance. “Wait!” I called out, causing her to turn towards me. “Is your plan safe?” I asked in a low tone. Before she could reply, Jada entered the room with a glass of water in her hand. “We meet at night.” Sasha said, only moving her lips so that Jada couldn't hear the words. As Sasha left the room, I tried to pay attention to Jada's words. It seemed like she was advising me to stick to my parent's decision. But my mind was torn, Sasha had offered a way out, but I still wondered if it was the best option. Later that day, Sasha and I discussed the escape plan. It was to be executed at night. I took a deep breath as I crawled into bed, waiting for nightfall. I got out as bed as Sasha entered my room, speaking in a hushed voice. “Remember what I told you. The man who would help you leave is waiting outside the packhouse.” She held a backpack and packed some of my items into it. “These should sustain you for a while. I'll visit you later.” I looked at her as she handed the bag to me and pulled her into an embrace. “Thank you for being there for me, even though you're still an annoying jerk.” I sniffed, refusing to let her go. “Anything for you. We're still sisters even though we fight.” She pulled out a map from underneath her dress. “If you get lost, this is a map to Caspar.” She folded it into my bag. “You have to leave now, I'll distract the guards and I won't tell anyone where you went.” I nodded my head, knowing that time wasn't waiting for us. We had waited till night to execute the plan and we had to do it right. I quickly changed from my night clothes and wore something that could sustain me for the night. My veil was wrapped around my face with only my eyes being visible. The bag rested on my shoulders. I turned to Sasha who gave me an encouraging nod before I tiptoed out of the room. The plan was simple—blend with the other werewolves who were going out for a night hunt. I stopped at the entrance to where the guards stood and my heart started racing. I pulled my veil to shield more of my face as I prayed silently that they wouldn't recognize me. “You.” One of the guards called out as I stood in front of the door. “What's with the bag?” He asked as he raised an eyebrow. My palms started sweating as I couldn't think of an answer. “It's ummm. It's…” I stammered as beads of sweat formed around my forehead. After Triton had attended Maria's burial which was compulsory for him to be present, he decided to go on a journey. The forger whom he worked for lived in a place far away from werewolf territories. They had only been exchanging letters and sending messengers to deliver their messages, and since Trevor hadn't brought more women, the forger had been sending messages incessantly to Triton.Triton was the one who had direct contact with the forger, he relayed messages from the forger to his brother Trevor. A messenger came recently, bearing a letter that the forger sent.Triton's heart thumped and his blood pressure skyrocketed as he read through the message. It contained multiple threats and warnings if he and his brother wouldn't do what the forger wanted.Triton knew what he signed up for when he started working for the forger. He knew all the lies he had told to Alpha Reynolds of Veilwood each time the alpha asked for help concerning the missing females in his pack. He knew how he ev
Fire, smoke, red and ashy colours filled the sky. Men and women were bound in chains, while children ran around screaming in pain. A man wearing a mask stood over the crowd. He held an arrow in one hand, and a sword in the other.“What is this?” Maria asked shakily.Freye turned from the wall and faced her. “It's another vision. It is revealing how Veilwood would look when the forger is done destroying it and other werewolf lands too.”“What!” Maria looked closer at the scene that looked real in front of her. “Trevor and his brother have a hand in doing all these?” She asked in disbelief.“They helped in recruiting women for the forger in exchange for whatever he promised them, so yes, they do.”Maria gritted her teeth angrily at Freye’s confirmatory statement. She couldn't believe that her mate, and the man who she had started to fall in love with would have a hand in such a disaster. She hastened towards the door, ready to confront him this night to spill the truth concerning whatev
They laid on the bed quietly, with Trevor caressing her waist in a gentle manner. His hot breath washed over her face as he drifted into sleep. She leaned closer, covering him properly with the blanket. She glanced towards the window which revealed a dark sky. She had worked all day, but wasn't feeling tired enough to sleep. Her eyes were wide open, while her brain was contained with thoughts of— “who am I? And would Veilwood reveal the truth?”It was a pity that she had to suspend her travel to Veilwood because of the spreading blight, but it was something she had to do to protect herself and the people. She heard something like a whisper and straightened herself on the bed. The voice called her name again, “Maria, Maria.”She faced Trevor, whose eyes were closed in deep sleep and wondered who was calling her.“This is strange,” she muttered to herself and lay back on the bed. Then, she heard herself being called again, and this time, it was louder than a whisper. She stood up from t
Trevor's eyes widened slightly as Maria locked her lips with his. He had also burned with an intensity to kiss her, but he doubted, thinking he may be moving too forward. He wrapped his hand gently around her waist as he tasted every bit of her mouth. Her hands were wrapped around his shoulders. Their lips moved, savouring every bit of each other. They disconnected, and Maria paused to catch her breath. She looked away shyly. “I'm sorry. I didn't mean to…”He silenced her with another kiss, this time more intense than the former. When he shifted his lips from hers, he looked at her in the eyes and his voice came out as a whisper. “That was amazing, Blossom.”He still called her Blossom even after finding out her name was Maria. The name stuck to him.He cupped her face gently by the cheeks, caressing it delicately.“You're in heat, aren't you?”Maria looked away, her cheeks slightly reddening with an evident blush.“I'm sorry,”Trevor chuckled and held her soft palm. “It's nothing to
Maria was still there, curled beside his bed. Her hand leaned against his back. She hadn't left his side, afraid that if she did, he may stop breathing. She slept off while lying there. Trevor stirred a bit. His hand moved and brushed against Maria's hair, causing her to wake up.“Trevor,” she whispered. “How are you feeling?”His eyes fluttered open and he looked around the room in a dazed manner at first. “How did I get here?”Maria smiled. “You collapsed and were unconscious. It's been almost three hours since we brought you here.”He straightened himself on the bed and mumbled something incomprehensible.Maria continued. “The nurses said you have a blight, and you need rest, plenty of it.”Trevor inhaled deeply and rubbed his eyes which were still sleepy. The action was also accompanied with a yawn.“Thank you, Maria,” He said, looking at her with a soft gaze.“I wasn't going to leave you. You still need rest.”Trevor rubbed his forehead worriedly. “The blight. I thought it had di
Trevor's chest heaved heavily and it was obvious that he was still angry. He still stared at the door after Triton left. Devon tried putting a hand on his shoulder to calm him, but he shrugged it off.He turned to Maria. “You shouldn't be hiding there. He obviously smelt you.”She stepped out of her hiding place with her head slightly lowered. “I…I'm so sorry.” She stuttered. He inhaled deeply and sat on a chair while still looking at her. “How much of everything did you hear?”Maria hesitated, wondering if he was angry at her for eavesdropping. His expression looked quite indifferent so she couldn't tell.“Is he your brother?”Trevor nodded his head and she saw something like a sliver of pain in his eyes. “Yes.”“Why don't you…”“I'd take you to Veilwood in a week.” He said, interrupting her second question. “I have a lot of things to attend to. Are you okay with it?”“Yes,” she replied. He placed a hand on his chest as if feeling pain. His eyes were narrowed and he had a slightly gr
