I waited patiently for both Grace and Dmitry’s car to arrive. I wasn’t sure how I was going to explain the black town car pulling into the parking lot or the driver to Grace. She was the only person in this school who treated me like a friend and yet, we barely knew each other. Actually, she barely knew me.

I knew she had two older brothers and one much younger sister. Her family moved here a few years ago from California, so she didn’t know much about my past social life.

I also knew her father was a engineer, and that they lived in the same neighborhood as Lucas.

She didn’t know I used to be like her. Enjoying parties thrown by some of the more popular students. She had no idea that only a few years ago I was a social butterfly. And know I was a wallflower at best. At worst, I was nothing.

“Sorry I’m late.” Grace approached me from behind. “I had to drop my books off at my locker.”

“No problem, the car just got here.”

She looked confused. “The car?”
