They stood over the corpse.

A tar-like substance oozed from the neck of the demon sprawled across the gym floor, thick and putrid.

“Should we… bury it?” Charlene asked, her voice quiet, unsure.

“I’m not sure,” Issa replied, covering his nose with his shirt. “It smells awful.”

“Like death and sewage had a baby,” Idris muttered, pinching his nostrils shut. “What even is this thing?”

“A demon,” Seth answered, his expression darkening.

Charlene's eyes flicked to his. “How do you know?”

“Because I could never sense anything from it,” Seth said, jaw clenched. “No emotions, no feelings, nothing. It never ate. It never even… slept.”

“Dude!” Idris gaped. “Did that thing sleep in your bed? With you? Like… actually with you?”

He leaned in, eyeing Seth like he smelled foul too.

“And you didn’t know?” Idris grimaced. “Ew.”

“Dude!” Seth barked. “Shut up!”

He punched Idris in the shoulder, but it was more frustrated than playful.

“I didn’t know. My Tamera was warm, full of life. She adored our baby girl. But this thing… it was cold. Standoffish.” His voice cracked. “I didn’t want to believe it.”

The gym door creaked. Argun stepped in, unimpressed.

“What are we looking at?” he asked with a bored glance. “Oh. Seth’s demon wife.” He scoffed and turned to leave.

“Wait—what?” Charlene spun toward him. “Did you know it was a demon?”

Argun paused. “When she introduced herself. Yesterday.”

“YESTERDAY?” everyone shouted at once.

“Why didn’t you say anything?” Idris asked, eyes wide with disbelief.

Argun blinked. “I thought you knew. I mean… love is love.” He shrugged.

Seth stared at him, stunned. Why in the world would I marry a demon?

“Only a Fate, angel, demon, or god can exist here in the white room,” Idris reminded him gently. “Humans… die when they arrive. They’re not meant to be here.”

“I beg you,” Seth turned to Argun. “Next time—if you sense something like this—pull me aside. Tell me.”

He looked around the room, voice firm. “That goes for all of you. We’re a team. We have to communicate.”

“We got you, man,” Idris nodded, a little shame flickering behind his eyes. He should’ve said something from day one.

“Yeah, yeah,” he added. “Yes, Dad. No worries.”

Seth rolled his eyes. “Now what do we do with it?”

“Nothing,” Argun said flatly, already walking away.

The headless corpse crumbled into ashes.

“Well, that’s convenient,” Idris muttered.

Charlene wasn’t listening anymore. Her heart was elsewhere.

Gigi… I need you to wake up. The words echoed in her thoughts.

Steph noticed the shadow in her daughter’s eyes. “Princess, are you okay?”

“I’m okay.” Charlene forced a smile. “I just need a minute.”

Seth understood. He nodded, letting her go.

“Open sesame,” she said softly as the stone door shifted aside with a heavy rumble. “Close sesame.”

Charlene stepped out onto the dunes high above the city, the wind cool against her skin. She crossed her arms and walked to the same place she'd been with her gigi—her heart aching.

“She’s not dead,” ReNew whispered from her arm. “Only sleeping.”

“I know,” Charlene said aloud. “I just miss her. I didn’t have a grandmother my whole life… and now that I finally do…”

She sat, knees hugged to her chest.

“I understand,” a calm voice said.

Startled, she turned.

He stood just behind her—sandals on feet the color of bronze, the spear in hand, used like a staff. The light of the setting sun outlined him in gold.

“Sorry,” she said, “I didn’t see you.”

“Don’t let me interrupt your thoughts,” he said kindly. “Continue.”

“I… I just had questions for my gigi,” she murmured.

“And you’re wondering if I can answer them?” he smiled.

“Well… yeah. If you don’t mind.”

“It depends on the question.”

She hesitated, then asked, “Are you aware of the demon that was in my home?”

“I was.”

“It posed as my mother.”

“I know.”

“It said my mother was dead.” Her voice broke.

“Don’t concern yourself with what demons say,” he said gently. “They are known to lie.”

“I’ve heard that.” She lowered her gaze. “But my question still stands.”

She brushed her foot across the sand, creating a small avalanche down the dune.

“Where is my mother?”

“That, my child, is unknown… for now. But believe me—if she were truly gone, we would know. Let that give you some comfort.”

Charlene swallowed hard. “I have another question.”

“Go ahead.”

“Why are demons suddenly interested in the realm?”

“A Fate has made them promises.”

She froze. “What Fate?”

“One named Torrock.”

Charlene’s stomach turned. “Why would he do that?”

“He wants to rule the Realm. And to do that… he needs an army.”

“We took out his last army,” she whispered. “The Guard.”

“Correct.”

“But now—he’s creating a new one.” Her eyes widened. “Wait… creating?”

“Yes.”

“Creating what? Fates? That would take decades…”

Her voice trailed off.

“The demon.”

“Yes.”

“He’s creating an army of demons.”

The realization struck like lightning. “We have to stop him!” she gasped. “I have to talk to my father. Thank you!”

She bolted down the dune.

“Thank you for the talk!” she shouted over her shoulder.

“You’re welcome,” he said with a quiet smile.

In the war room, Seth stood with his hands braced against the table, surrounded by his counsel.

They waited in respectful silence. He’d been deep in thought, weighing every decision carefully.

“Professor E will oversee the university,” Seth began. “Idris—you’re handling infrastructure. Make sure the city runs smoothly. Start assembling the Journeyers—they’ll be our soldiers. Argun, you’ll train them, along with Charlene, Heth, and ReNew.”

He turned. “Doctor Gilead, you’ll handle medical concerns. Tabitha—mental health and physical therapy.”

Seth walked the room, eyes meeting theirs one by one.

“We are every Fate’s voice. We meet their needs. We speak on their behalf.”

Just then, the doors slammed open.

Charlene burst in, breathless. “We have to stop Torrock. He’s building an army—of demons!”

  • Beyond Fate   Is anybody home?

“Hello? Is anyone home?” Seth stepped into Argun's house, his voice echoing slightly in the still air. No response. He moved cautiously through the rooms until a soft noise led him toward the back. There, pacing behind a locked cage, was Asbeel. “Argun and the Queen—” Asbeel’s voice was sharp with frustration, “they’ve gone. To the demon domain. They're looking for your daughter.” Seth blinked. “Then why are you locked up? Why aren’t you helping them?” Asbeel launched into a long-winded tale about misunderstandings, warnings, and Argun being overly cautious. Seth didn’t wait for the conclusion. “Forget it.” He unlatched the cage with a grunt. “You’re coming with me.” He tossed together supplies—some gear, rations, a waterskin—and grabbed a familiar backpack. “Argun won’t mind.” As Seth headed toward the portal, it shimmered—and Idris popped out. “There you are,” Seth muttered. “Feeling better, I see.” “Don’t try to stop me.” Idris raised both hands. “Relax. I’m not here to

  • Beyond Fate   something is hunting us

“Ask your question, child!” the dragon commanded.Charlene floated in the air, facing the cave’s mouth. Either this demon didn’t know what she was—or didn’t care. Either way, it was going to die.She already made up her mind.“What is your name, demon?” Charlene asked, voice calm and disarmingly gentle, as if coaxing a frightened puppy from beneath a couch. The creature slithered deeper into the shadows of the cave, its voice echoing ominously. “My name, child? It’s Lord Leviathan.”That was all she needed to hear.Like a possessed banshee, Charlene charged into the cave, her energy blazing. The clash was immediate—slashing, slicing, metallic clangs and demonic howls filled the air. The sounds echoed out into the snowy landscape in a chaotic symphony of death. The battle raged for minutes until—Silence.Charlene emerged from the mouth of the cave soaked in blood, a jeweled crown gleaming on her head and emerald rings adorning her fingers. A bloody trail melted the snow behind her as

  • Beyond Fate   You got to be kidding me

"You need to get up off that couch, now!" Destiny’s voice thundered through the room like a war drum. She was not in the mood for diplomacy today."Queen Destiny!" Torock fell to his knees so fast it looked like gravity betrayed him personally."What part of get up didn’t you understand?" Argun crossed the room in three long strides and bent to grab the trembling man’s arm, helping—or rather hauling—him to his feet.“I don’t have time for this,” Destiny said, her voice clipped and urgent. “We’ll talk later. Right now, I need you.”“Whatever I can do to help, I’ll do it,” Torock stammered, pressing his palms together in an awkward display of servitude. His whole body shook with anxiety.Tabitha, clearly unimpressed, stepped forward and folded her arms. “Can this wait? I was in the middle of a therapy session with him. And for once, I was making progress.”Destiny turned to her and smiled with polite dismissal. “Sorry, but no. We don’t have time to waste. I’ll explain everything later.

  • Beyond Fate   where's the little ones?

The demon domain was a chaos of shifting terrain—a scorched maze of rivers that bled into caverns, crumbling cliffs, and a desert that pulsed with heat like the breath of a furnace.“Where in the world do we even start looking for Charlene?” Argun asked, peering through the rippling portal. They looked toward the edge of outer darkness, where lakes of fire churned and portal after portal blinked open like angry eyes. All around them were scenes of torment—souls being dragged through ash and flame, their cries echoing with weeping and gnashing of teeth. The sounds could drive any mortal insane. But Destiny had been here before. She didn’t flinch. Her eyes scanned past the rivers of flame and writhing creatures, searching.Through all the chaos, Gigi pointed, her voice tight. “What’s that over there?”They turned to where she was indicating. Through the smoke and the smolder, a trail of unmoving bodies stretched along a rocky embankment.“See the ones between the torches?” she whispered

"Leave my dad alone!" Charlene screamed, blinking to her father's side. The demon was far stronger than the others they'd faced. Its smoke-like tentacles pinned Seth to the ground, trying to force their way into his body. The mark resisted possession, but Seth’s body was being crushed under the pressure.A separate wall of tentacles barred Heth from intervening.Charlene’s instincts kicked in. She summoned the energy orbs she’d trained with earlier and launched them like a barrage from a celestial M-16. The blasts slammed into the smoke tentacles.“Hold on, Dad! I’m coming!”She pushed forward, pouring everything into breaking through the barrier.High above, Odo transformed mid-flight. A fiery arrow formed around his body as he shouted, “Lightning Arrow!” He descended like a meteor, crashing into the tentacles with an explosion of blinding light. It lit up the sky like a miniature sun.At the same time, Charlene broke through the smoke wall and dove toward Seth, sliding across the sc

  • Beyond Fate   early rising

Chapter: Early RisingThe morning air was still thick with dew when Seth and Charlene wrapped up their early workout. ReNew and Heth arrived shortly after, just in time for an unplanned mission—one that involved family and, hopefully, breakfast.“It’s really early,” Charlene grumbled, rubbing her arms. “The first orb is barely even in the sky.”As if on cue, a rooster crowed loudly in the distance.ReNew winced. “Are we seriously doing this? Should we be here? I mean… last time we just showed up, remember?” She leaned in closer. “Are we trying to get shot?”Seth chuckled, unbothered. “They’re not that bad, girls. This is a working farm—they’ve probably been up for hours.”“Doing what, exactly?” ReNew asked, eyeing the quiet barn suspiciously. The girls and Heth started strolling toward the house.“Where are you going?” Seth asked, confused.“To get breakfast, of course,” Charlene answered flatly, brows furrowed.“I said they’re working. On the farm,” Seth said, pointing toward the lar

  • Beyond Fate   she's not in the mood!

She wasn’t in the mood to talk. Not today. ReNew had stayed locked away in her room, silent and simmering. But Charlene? She showed up, just like she promised—ready to meet her dad.Seth was already waiting for her, seated at the edge of the glowing lagoon inside the cave. His shirt was off, revealing the tight muscle cords across his back, and he hummed softly while stretching, legs spread on the mat beneath him. He didn’t turn when she approached.“Join me,” he said simply, patting the mat beside him.Charlene sat down, unsure of what they were doing, but willing to follow. She tilted her head as she watched.“Do what I’m doing,” Seth said calmly. “Breathe slowly and steadily. Inhale deep… now exhale. Good. This helps oxygenate your muscles and prevents them from cramping.”She mirrored his movements, mimicking his slow stretches.“Stretching,” he continued, “isn't just about flexibility. It’s about control. Grace. Power. Exhale as you deepen into the stretch. Hold it for at least t

  • Beyond Fate   Explain yourself young lady!

Seth looked at her with a storm of concern flashing across his face."CHARLENE, WHAT DID YOU DO?" he demanded. She froze, caught off guard by his tone. “I taught him a lesson. That’s all!” she said, a little too defensively.Seth’s eyes scanned her—sharp, observant. Then he noticed it. Her soul—ReNew—wasn’t with her. That might explain it. ReNew had been in the cave ever since they’d left his parents’ house.“Tell me you didn’t kill him!” Seth choked out, his voice cracking. He gripped the broken necklace in his hand like it was a lifeline. “Tell me you didn’t do something irreversible just to get this stone. Answer me, Princess. Please!”“Dad, seriously? The plan was to get them to give us the hidden place stones, remember?” Charlene replied. “So we could understand what he’s up to and what their return really means. And I did just that.”Seth looked like he’d aged ten years in a second. “I understand the assignment,” he said, “but Charlene—answer me, please.”She waved him off, tryi

  • Beyond Fate   After dinner

Beth waved to everyone as they exited the house through the glowing portal. Odo lingered, reaching out slowly—almost reverently—to touch the shimmering edge before it could close, trying to trace its exit path. But just as Charlene stepped out on the other side, she felt it—an energy signature, subtle but familiar. Fate magic. Someone had tried to follow them.Without hesitation, she turned and slammed her hand into the closing portal, scrambling the pathways mid-closure. Her instincts screamed one name. She reached into the spiritual tangle and yanked. Before Seth could react, Charlene vanished. The portal snapped shut.“Princess!” he called out, panic thick in his voice.Meanwhile, deep inside Charlene’s mind’s eye, Odo found himself strapped to a chair in a void of darkness.“What… what is this?” he muttered, blinking against the sudden beam of light that pierced the shadows and hit him in the face.Charlene stepped out of the dark, cloaked in authority. Her voice was disguised—dee
