This story has much more than you will expect. From a weak and bullied girl the main character development is amazing and unexpectedly brought the story to another depth that I never thought it would be. Thank you for writing this book! It was slow burning and yet fast pacing at the same time!

Chapter One
Elena truly loved James; she did. But as she stood there, watching how he smothered her stepsister with kisses, she was surprised at the fact that she did not feel even an ounce of pain. It was so much so that she stood there, studying the complexities of the way he kissed her; it almost seemed as if he was swallowing her whole face. James had never kissed her like that. The highest he had ever done was to give her a featherlight kiss on her lips, one she doubts she even felt. She supposed she should have seen it coming, the betrayal, that is. Nothing had been going right for her ever since the death of her beloved Queen Mother. And her father, the King, did not waste his time replacing her. She doubts that her father ever loved her mother. As soon as she had reached the age where she could understand her surroundings, She realized that the marriage between her parents was just a farce. Oh, her mother loved her father, but the King never even glanced at her. She had

Chapter Two
Elena made her way back to her room. Once she reached her bedroom, she began pacing in the comfort of her closed space. Tired and scared, thinking of a way to escape this disaster. She didn't want to get married to the Blood King. No! That will never happen! She thought. He was popular in all the lands for his tyranny and love for pain. Rumors have it that if he doesn't cause himself some sort of bodily harm at a particular time every day, he would not be satisfied or happy, thereby making his tyranny towards those around him even worse. If she gets married to this kind of person, there is no probability of her ever surviving. She wondered what she did to her father to make him hate her so because if he didn't, no matter if he accepted her or not, he would not want to send her to the Blood King. The only way left was for her to flee the palace. She continued pacing while drafting out plans in her mind. As she finally thought of a way to get herself free fro

Chapter Three
Elena finally arrived at the entrance of the castle gate. To avoid the guards from seeing her, she sneaked out in the form of a maid. It would have been hard to discern her as she was never treated, especially in the castle, so her clothes were worse than a maid's. Her heart was beating hard when she reached the guards. Fortunately, they didn't suspect anything, so she left the castle without a problem. It was a good thing that not everyone knew her face. They have heard stories about the bastard child, but most haven't seen her or even care to. She spent most of her time in the castle library or her secret passage hideout, listening to the King and his advisors. Thanks to the extensive knowledge she accumulated, she knew following the Forest would lead her to the border between her Kingdom and the Kingdom of Neba. Neba was her mother's homeland. Her mother had always talked about that Kingdom, its scenery, the food, and the culture. To be honest, Elena had always been a

Chapter Four
The man looked up at Elena with hope. Finally, there is someone who might just bring back his shop to its former glory, even beyond that! "Tell me what you need, Anything! And I will make sure to do it!" He said excitedly. "Well sir, you would have to close down your shop for a month. We have to start renovations." "Done. I'll see to that immediately." Without even waiting for Elena to continue, the man immediately left to close the restaurant, sending whoever was in it away. He closed the restaurant doors, hung the closed sign, and wrote "won't be open for a month" before he finally went back inside. The man then ushered Elena from the kitchen into the serving area and nudged her beside a table. He also dragged himself a seat towards her table. "So what's the plan?" "Firstly, we need to collect a loan. I doubt you have enough expenses for the renovating of this building." She started immediately. "No. No loans. I won't take any loans." "But you need

The next day came very quickly. Elena had already prepared the ingredients she would cook for the crowd that day. She was currently bringing out her utensils to set up outside. "Are you ready for today?" Mac asked. "Of course. You?" "Yes. Yes, I am. You know you do not have to be nervous right? I'm right next to you."Mac said calmly. Elena stopped what she was doing to take a good look at him. Despite the calm look on his face, the twitching of his fingers and the way his legs were shaking gave him away. "It looks like that advice was meant for you, don't you think?" She said teasingly. Mac sighed. "I can't help it. So many people already want to come to our restaurant. I took a walk yesterday evening after our showcase, and we were the talk of the whole town." He said, smiling. "Well then, that's good isn't it?" Elena asked. "You have no idea. Enough with the chit-chat. Let go prepare for more customers." He helped her carry her working table to the

The Kingdom of Pres, The King's Palace... "It's been over a month, my Lord, and we are yet to find her." The head of the palace guards reported. He was put in charge of the search party sent out to find Elena. "Why can't you do your job well? Do you know what's going to happen if we do not find her?!" The king screamed angrily. "We have promised to give her to the Blood king, do you know what will happen if we go there empty-handed? We will all be killed! Our kingdom will be razed to the ground! Do you know what it means to fail your promise to the Blood king!?" He threw up his hands, an expression of outrage. "You know what, forget it. I'll hire someone better." The king said. The guard knelt immediately and bowed his head. "Forgive me, my Lord. I promise I will do better next time -" "No, you have done enough." He faced the servant next to him and called out. "Write a letter for me. Send for Darukï. Tell him that the king expects his presence in

Chapter Seven
The Blood kingdom. Castle of the Blood king... It was a dark room. The curtains were drawn close, and the candles on the side tables were lit. Next to the door on the wall of the room were two swords hung in the form of an 'X.' Farther to the right of the wall was a huge bear's head; its eyes so frightened and dark like it had seen the scariest thing the moment before its death. The room's color was dark blue, but the room's furnishings were blood red. The carpet, bedsheets, pillows, and cushions were all made from very expensive fabric. There was a huge fireplace, and the logs were burning at room temperature. The room ceiling was pale white, with no art or depiction of anything on it. There were no paintings on the wall either. The room was bare, apart from the bear's head and swords, along with the exquisite furnishings. A figure opened the door to the room, entered and closed the door quietly. She moved softly on the red carpet, her bare feet pale against its

The Blood Kingdom. The palace gates... Calhoun loved his father. He did. But he couldn't understand the undying feeling he had to bury the man alive. After their discussion the other day about him getting a bride, his father wasted no time helping him prepare for his journey. Before Calhoun could even speak, his loads were packed, he was dressed, and finally sent out of the palace. One would wonder why he didn't do anything through the whole tirade. His father knew him very well, already expecting him to react that way, and so he brought the only thing he knew he couldn't react to. His Mother. The poor woman was already crying her eyes out, going on and on about finally having a daughter-in-law and becoming a grandmother. Calhoun didn't know how to react. He hasn't even seen his bride, but his parents had already started giving their future grandchildren names. But all these weren't the worst of it all. It was the procession that his father arranged. The whole Ki

The stranger Elena and Forest brought back had been sleeping since they carried him into the restaurant. He did not open his eyes all through the period when they took care of him. His breathing was rapid at some point, coming out in harsh puffs, causing Elena to become worried. Mac helped to remove the man's attire and dressed him in more comfortable clothes. When he was done, Elena took over from Forest and began to wipe off the man's sweat. His breathing eventually became normal, and Elena sighed in relief. The man slept for a long time, and they all surmised that his body required the much-needed rest. So they went about their daily duties as the man slept. Later in the evening, as they were preparing for the public banquet, the man woke up. Forest was the first to find out as he was in his room searching for what to wear. When the strange man woke up, Forest jumped in alarm when he called out to him. Finally recognizing who was talking, Forest reached out to the man and

Chapter Ten
The Kingdom of Pres. The Border forest... The silent crunching of grass could be heard in the still darkness cloaked the forest. The sounds of the creatures living in it seemed extra eerie that day, almost like a haunting omen, warning of something bad that was about to happen. Plodding steps could be heard running across the wet grass, heading towards the border dividing the kingdom from its neighbor, The Kingdom of Neba. There was a purpose to the sprint, a harshness that couldn't be overlooked. The people running were not normal citizens. They had a purpose, and a huge disaster was doomed to happen if they were not fast enough. The Kingdom of Neba. At the Palace Gates... The King had appeared. The immediate hush prompted by his presence caused Elena to look up at him in awe. Her grandfather was the one who had appeared. He was the only person she knew could silence a crowd just by his mere existence; even her father could never achieve that feat. She c
