Chapter 2
VINCENZO POV
I had all the intentions to see where this little game would take me, and I had all the time in the world to accompany me as well.
And I hated to admit it, but the lad was right.
His sister was one hell of a looker.
A plump little thing not any inch about 5 feet, with a whole bush of hair on her head, hips, and curves no amount of money and surgeries could ever achieve. Even beneath the hideous apron, you could tell she was one hell of a model of perfection.
An epitome of a woman’s beauty.
I arched a brow at Kaizen- I recalled my men calling him that- prompting his lips to start spilling.
“See? I wasn’t lying when I told you she is a looker. She could be a perfect fit for pandemonium.” His voice echoed around the room, bouncing off the walls of dense silence that reigned.
My eyes skitted to her.
I watched as her eyes grew wider than the squidfish’s, her chest rising and falling with rapid breaths. A mixture of emotions played on her face, scrunching her perfect features.
Confusion, pure, betrayal… it looked like I was watching a fucking movie.
“W-wh… Kaizen?” Her voice. Ah… Smoother than butter. What in the hell is a girl like her doing in this gutter?
She should be out there for the world to see, for millions to admire. Heck. I was even tempted to find ways to put her on the runway and have millions admire her.
“You don’t need to worry about anything, Nina. He will protect you. And the money? You won’t have to worry about anything. You will make more than you make at this shitty pub. Isn’t it a good deal?” He said all that while facing his sister, hands clutching her lean shoulders and rocking her softly.
A lone tear rolled down her face when the gravity of the situation descended on her with a crushing weight.
Everyone with eyes could see as her whole entire world came undone before us…
Just like that, his own flesh and blood had sold him.
“Kyomi.” Her name rolled off smoothly on my tongue.
Goodness. Even her simple name sounded like something the angels sang when they were in a mood of praise.
I took a dangerous step forward, and her head turned to the side with utmost defeat, hooded and heavy with betrayal.
I hated that she looked so broken when all of this was just the beginning. I expected a fight from her; but her slumped shoulders told me she had no energy left in her to fight! And honestly, I didn’t know how that made me feel!
“What say you?” I rolled my shoulders before squaring them, then pinned her down with my hard gaze.
Her eyes skitted to her brother before flying back to me, and then she swallowed down the visible lump in her throat.
“Whatever sin did he commit?” Her voice came out low, all was gone from her body.
I turned my head to Terrell, one of my trusted soldiers and the one man who was able to track down the thief who had been stealing from us for the past six months.
At first, it was small petty things… A few bags of white powder disappearing, some cash from the register… A few things I turned a blind eye to. Until he got greedier and greedier, and he started taking more than he could handle.
“Your little brother has been stealing from us for months. He has managed to steal 50k worth of product from us.” Terrell filled her with the information, and her eyes grew even more glassy!
She turned to her brother who was now paper-white pale.
He even went ahead by dropping his arm from her and tried to shield his face from her.
“50 grand? What did you do with it Kaizen?” Kyomi’s voice came out harsher this time, more stoic and even more tense. I could tell that the revelation shook her even further.
Kaizen decided to turn a solid deaf ear, pretending that she didn’t ask her anything. Heck, by just looking, you could even tell he didn’t consider his sister anything but a stranger he shared a DNA with. I mean he didn’t even hesitate to sell him off to a renowned mob just to pay off his debt.
Yet there she was shedding tears for him…
And they say blood is thicker than water!
I beg to fucking differ.
“Asking questions is futile, love. Your fate is sealed. You are coming with me.” The words left my mouth low and threatening. She pinched her eyes close, tears pouring down her face before she gave a curt nod.
After taking a stilling breath, she reached inside her bra, pulled a few notes before pulling Kaizen’s hand, then placed a few worn-out dollar bills in her hand.
“There are some leftovers in the fridge. Heat them when you get home. I was planning to take the car down to the mechanic, I guess that’s up to you now. The keys are in my locker..” With that, she dropped his hand and walked to stop before me, then looked at me with tear-stained eyes.
I couldn’t help but smile even though something chaffed at me down and low inside.
She was so defenseless, so meek, and easily breakable. She didn’t even know what it was she walking into, yet the resolution on her face told me everything I needed to know.
I may be wrong, but my entire life has taught me to know strength when I see one.
Life may not have been fair to her, but this woman wore armor of bloody steel!
With that, I yanked my black tie off my neck and held it up for her.
She eyed it like I had just handed her a vial of poison and demanded she drink it!
“Wear it around your eyes,” I commanded. The question became bold on her face, but she swallowed every single one of them down before taking it and securing it around her eyes.
The Pandemonium was not a secret. But I was willing to take this little game a little further.
I nodded to Terrell, and she took her by her arm before directing her out the door, leaving me with the dick of a boy who was more proud that any other thing for what he had just done.
“So…” He beamed, jumping on his feet, undoubtedly with the idea of going to spend those last bills his sister just sacrificed. Making me hate him even further.
I was taught from a young age that loyalty comes before everything. Leave loyalty… Family fights for family. Family kills for family. That was etched deep inside me from a young age by two men I followed with all my heart!
And Turantello Syndicate was my family; the one I would go straight to hell if I have to… and yet this motherfucker broke one code that ran deep in the blood of the Syndicate.
And he thought I would take him under my wing?
I would rather hump a trash can!
“When should I start working?” He asked with a smile. I could see his ego pumped up, feeling all chuffed up that he had just done something so right in his life.
Yet he had done one thing that had just dug his own grave. Cancel that, he dug his own grave a long time ago, and now he just landed right into it and covered his body with dirt.
“You know, one of the important things in my life, my cartel, and my syndicate, is family. You steal for your family. You kill for family. You curse for family. One thing you do not do is rat family. Let alone sell family for your own selfish desires.” I let the angry tone and the harshness of my words wash over him, settle inside of him and let him know just what kind of a sick fuck he was for selling his sister.
Glad he was a smart kid. He knew right then what I meant. I could tell by the fear that coated his gaze.
“And what your sister just did right now proved her to be even more valuable than you could ever be,” I announced. His face bunched up in disgust.
“You mean she could pull shit better than me? I am a man. And she is nothing but a pussy and big tits. She can’t do shit except wind on your d…” I didn’t let him finish. I couldn’t let him.
I couldn’t stomach such disrespect. Not at me. Gah! I have handled far worse than a teen with a bruised ego wanting to walk down a path he wasn’t prepared for.
It was the disrespect towards his sister that undid the last strand of control.
With that, I planted a slack between his eyes, then watched as he went limp and dropped before my feet.
With one annoyed sigh, I spun around and left!
Chapter 35VINCENZO POVHer clothes tore like a fucking wet paper. Her tongue hugged mine in a wet sloppy kiss, and I fucking saw stars. Her fury tasted like redemption, her fire like liberation on my tongue. Everything inside me expanded at the same time it unravelled, leaving me a panting mess as I kissed her like I wanted to kill her with my mouth. “GET OUT,” I growled deep and low before claiming her mouth, and the sound of feet shuffling on the floor filled the space before the door closed with a soft click. Kyomi clutched my shirt like it was a lifebelt, her lips reciprocating my assault with the same kind of hunger; same level of passion. Although there was nothing passionate about that moment. It was war. Fatal and dadly in all the ways one could ever think of. There was just something about her fire that lit me up; the way she burst through the damn doors like she owned the damn place before spitting venom all around the damn space. And when she hit me, that small thing
Chapter 34 KYOMI POV Hours bled into days, and Vincenzo and I fell into a little routine. He would burst through the doors in the morning with a tray of breakfast, feed me with his own hand while smoldering me with his grey eyes. The lunches were the same as well, him attending to my every need. After a few hours of him being gone to do God knows what- probably to terrorize people and demons alike- he would come back to bath me, put me in fresh clothes and tuck me in bed before shoving dinner down my throat. He touched me like he owned me, cared for me like I was his little broken toy. And all the time, I let him. I let him touch the physical shell he was utterly obsessed with, let him rule over my flesh the way he liked it. But anything beyond that was mine. I let him hear my voice when I wanted to. He would snap and break thing, punch holes in the holes because I didn’t say a word, and I would just sit back watching him go berserk. The man had stolen so much for me, it was onl
Chapter 33 KYOMI POV Consciousness came with a dull, throbbing ache. The kind that settled in my bones and lungs like cold grief. My throat was raw, my limbs a thick consistency of maple syrup. But above it all, I felt… heavy. Like my bones weight a fucking tone inside my skin. A groan fell off my lips, and I winced as the little sound scratched on my patched throat like finger nails on a chalk board. I cracked my eyes open and my surroundings came into view, blurry and unfamiliar at first. Slowly, clarity seeped back into the dry bones and torn cracks, and I saw it all. My body laying on the bed with a big pillow to prop it, an IV drip hooked into my arm, and the unmistakable presence that seemed to absorb all the air in the room. I was in Vincenzo’s bedroom. A tall silhouette stood by the window, unmoving and heavy, a soft murmur filling the space as he spoke the into his phone in hushed tones. “Ricardo needs to be dealt with.” His back was turned against me, but I was abl
Chapter 32VINCENZO POVThe day seemed both an eternity and a millisecond. I stood behind the metal chair, sleeves rolled up to my elbows, and the cold edge of my blade smeared with something warmer than regret. Blood pooled on the concrete floor beneath my feet, filling the abandoned warehouse with a coppery scent that seemed to overshadow the smell of rot and piss. The place was more than perfect; a graveyard where rats crawled to die peacefully. A place where I received answers, or sometimes invited the grim reaper to join the party I wiped a thumb underneath the bridge between my nose and mouth, then rounded the chair before stopping in front of the Armenian runner. His breaths were wet, rattled; his screaming had stopped five minutes ago. Which meant he was either unconscious or giving up the futile fight. Because come hell or high water, I was getting the information I came here for. It wasn’t hard tracing their little secret hide out, and it sure didn’t cost us an arm and
Chapter 31KYOMI POVThe ceiling had teeth.Or maybe it was just the fragments of my imagination that had enlarged, come alive, and started to form figures and shapes in front of my eyes; but I could have sworn that the corners were spinning again, curling into cold snarls every time I blinked too hard. My mouth tasted like raw cotton, my limbs slumped like syrup. The line between reality and dreams thinned and blurred on the edges, until everything was a jumbled mess in front of me. The chest dresser laughed at me as I rose from my sleeping position and pulled myself into a sitting position, the bed creaked underneath my weight, but I swear it sounded like a mocking chuckle. And that very moment, somebody decided that it was perfect time to blast music, making the sounds to thump in my head on a steady rhythm. I peeled my eyes open to find out I was alone in the bedroom, with nobody else but the entities from my thoughts that had all come to life. And that there was actually no on
Chapter 30KYOMI POVThe following day was a mishmash of aching body, confusion, and heartache as the density of my epiphany fully sank in. The third day with only my thoughts to feed from my sanity had finally blurred the edges of the world into soft, smudged black lines. The warm walls of Vincenzo Russo’s lavish mansion closed in on me like they were breathing; alive. If the experts somehow found me in that position, they would declare me legally unstable. I lay curled on top of the bed, not under it where monsters and demons lurked. Covers felt too heavy on my body, too much, with a drizzle of phantom comfort I sure as hell didn’t need. I stared at the white dot on the ceiling wondering just how that freak let it be there, desperately trying to jot everything down to another play of my imagination. A cold, manifestation of my visceral nightmares and hallucinations. I figured that hunger may have exhausted my mind so badly that I was starting to see things that were actually not
