As I lay on my bed, feeling sore all over my body, I wish I had died. The sun rays dance into the room, illuminating everywhere with each step it takes.

A knock interrupts my thoughts. Nella comes in with tears in her eyes but says no word as she helps me clean up and gets changed into a yellow dress.

“Nella” I finally speak to break the tension. She looks at me with tears welling up in her eyes. “I'm hungry” I chuckled and raised my hand to wipe her tears. I don't want her to be burdened by my problem and I never wish for anyone else to see me break down.

It seems to have worked because Nella brightened up. This is all I need now. Together we walk outside of the bedroom, down the stairs and into the dining room.

Nella arranges my breakfast and I'm glad that Valtor has gone out. After my meal is set, I beg Nella to have breakfast which she hesitantly agrees.

We eat and chat, getting to know each other and relate more as friends. I've never been so close to anyone since Eva and Madison left and I'm glad I can be free with Nella.

Valtor won't be home till midnight as I was informed so I take the opportunity to escort Nella to the marketplace to buy groceries.

Chatting all the way to the marketplace, I discovered we have many similarities.

After the grocery shopping was done, Nella recalls she had forgotten something in the meat store and saying she didn't want to stress me and she could go alone and be back in a few minutes, she leaves me at a fruit store when I overheard some ladies in the next store talking.

“Oh! How I pity her. I hope she doesn't get pregnant for him…” says one of the ladies. I don't know why I'm interested in this conversation that isn't my business but I still pay rapt attention to them to listen more.

“Rumors fly around that he has unhidden sexual affairs and when he's bored of his mistresses, he kills them and moves to the next.” Another voice, barely above a whisper, interrupts.

This conversation has nothing to do with me so why should I eavesdrop. My attention shifts to a little boy playing with a dog but something pulls it back to the conversation.

“I wonder how anyone would survive with that ruthless alpha as a mate. He is so evil. Nothing speaks good about him.” One of the ladies whispers before they stand up to leave.

So the topic was about me and Valtor. I have always known how evil Valtor was but I didn't see this coming.

I am not safe here and I know it. Standing here, frozen at a spot, with my eyes fixed on the fruits but my mind spinning with thoughts.

Nella comes back, fast enough to pull me out of my thoughts. “Kaidara, I'm sorry I took your time. Can we go now”

Nodding and forcing a smile at her, without a word, we walked back to the house.

Getting to the house exhausted, I retire to my bedroom. The words from the ladies coming at me with much force, drained me of any energy I had left.

With days, weeks and months passing, Valtor's assault intensifies leading to my constant nightmares and sleepless nights.

How would I have to endure all these tortures? How long do I keep living in this darkness?

Regardless of my situation, the bond between Nella and I grows stronger. My life goes on with Nella brightening my mood throughout the day and Valtor breaking me at night.

It is a new day. And although Valtor didn't visit my room last night, I feel very tired. Still struggling to get out of bed, Nella knock resounds through the quiet room.

“Kaidara, are you alright? You have been asleep for almost half of the day” she says, concern etched on her brows.

“Half of the day!...” Struggling with the blanket, I managed to sit upright on the bed.

“...I think I'm just tired, probably I didn't get enough sleep last…” before I could finish my sentence, I was already on the run to throw up in the bathroom. Nella stands looking at me. Speechless.

“...I think I'm just sick. I'll be fine in a day or two” I try to convince myself.

Walking up to me, Nella holds my hand. There are tears in her eyes. My greatest fear.

“Kaidara… you are pregnant.” She says, breaking down in tears. Why is she crying? This is supposed to be good news. Right?

“I hope she doesn't get pregnant for him…” the words from those ladies ringing in my ears, making my head spin.

“What are you not telling me? What are you hiding from me?” I say, placing my hands on her shoulder and shaking her.

Nella avoiding eye contact with me confirms that something isn't right. Placing my hand on her cheek, and pulling her to face me, I look into her eyes.

“Nella, please you have to tell me if something is not right. My life is in danger. Please” I say, pleading as tears well up in my eyes.

“Kaidara… you and the unborn child are not safe here. I don't know if you know this… Valtor was once married. She wasn't his mate. She was pregnant and when she gave birth…" At this point, Nella’s hands were shaking and I know what she is about to say won't be good. Placing my hands on hers, I manage to calm her down.

“When she gave birth, the baby was a girl. An..and Valtor was angry. He wanted a son, a son that would take over after him. So he killed her and the baby saying she was useless to him. Kaidara, you need to leave. We don't know what the gender will be but we can't risk the wait. You have to leave before news of your pregnancy leaks throughout this house” she says, breaking down in tears

Standing here, feeling numb, I can't think straight. I don't have enough time. Valtor won't be home till midnight. What should I do?

It is 10pm. Valtor will be back in two hours. Looking out of my window, I notice the moon emitting her light gloomily. Standing solely high in the sky without the stars to keep her company.

Moving towards the closet, I thought of packing some of my clothes and treasured items, but later decided against the idea. I don't need anything slowing me down on my track.

Looking once more outside my window, I'm grateful for the darkness. It will serve as a blanket, making me invisible to anyone.

Taking just a scarf to hide my face, I make my way to the back of the house. Examining the environment, I note that the guards are not patrolling here tonight, they are probably too busy with something.

Without wasting any more time, I take flight towards the woods, letting my wolf take over to quicken the pace. Not stopping for a second, I continue in my pace and after running for hours, I'm sure that I am very far away from Valtor. I am finally free

But where am I? Raising my nose, I try to sense if there is danger lurking around.

Standing still for a clear hearing even if my hearing ability is superb, my senses are rising on high alerts.

Examining the environment, I notice the towering trees blocking most of the moonlight, leaving the forest with little or no lights.

Suddenly, a faint snap of a twig echoes through the quiet forest, activating my defense mode.

Loud and bloodthirsty howls follow after the long silence, causing fear to run down my spine. Rogues I growl, ready to defend myself.

With five big wolves jumping out of their hiding place and circling me, their eyes glowing with all traces of bloodlust, baring their sharp teeth at me, I realize I'm no match for them.

Without hesitation, one of the wolves lurches at me, but being fast and alert, I dodged but not fast enough to miss the next attack.

A black burly wolf pounces on me, swiping its sharp claws on my chest. Another biting out a chunk of flesh on my thigh, causing me to howl in agony and pain.

I struggle with the wolves but I am obviously outnumbered. Maybe this is my fate, either I die in the hand of that ruthless alpha Valtor or I die by the claws of these rogues.

Another wolf bites down on my arm. I struggle with it but it doesn't seem ready to let go. With so much force I could gather, I pushed it away from me as my arm went numb.

The biggest wolf slams into me, crashing me to the rough ground. As his claws dig its way into my chest, I feel life sneaking out of me and my vision gets blurry. But suddenly it stops and silence takes over. Bone cracking erupts through the silence and howls of pain following each crack. The silence takes over again.

Lying on the floor, now in my human form weak and battered, I feel a set of strong arms lifting me from the ground and a pair of green eyes staring down at me in panic before darkness envelops me.

  • Beyond the moon    Chapter 35

"My love” Sebastian's voice echoes through my sleep. It's too early to wake a pregnant woman. Ugh! I ignore him, still trying to enjoy my sleep. Seeing that I'm being stubborn, he opens the curtain, allowing the sunlight to illuminate the once dark and super-comfortable room. “It's not fair!" I wince as the sunlight makes contact with my face. In frustration, I throw the blanket over my head, shielding my face from the sun. “Darling. Wake up, you need to go to the hospital to get yourself and the baby checked by the doctor. Catherine got an appointment booked for you." He says, pulling the blanket from my body. I hold on to the blanket, adamant on not letting him win. I'm almost six months gone and my baby bump is very much obvious now. I'm not an early bird. ‘He’ knows ‘I'm’ not an early bird. Everybody knows that ‘I’ am not an early bird. I'm a night owl…if there is a thing like that. It's really frustrating for me, being woken up when it's barely 10am. It's not fair! "Babe, st

  • Beyond the moon    Chapter 34

Kaidaira's POV “Babe" "Babe”“Sebastian!" I call his name, a sense of fear overcoming me.He is having another nightmare and this time worse than the first time. His face is a mask of pure pain and anger. I have never seen him like this. Using my hands, I try to steady his face to stop him from throwing fervently but his strength exceeds mine. I clean the beads of sweat on his face and bare chest but he is still not responding, rather he is still vibrating in his sleep. Doing the first thing that comes into my mind, I straddle him, using my weight to hold him down.“Sebastian" I repeat his name and this time he answers me. He forces his eyes open, his breath coming out heavily. It takes him some time to regain composure before he pulls me into his embrace and I just lie still on his chest. The room falls into total silence and the only sound heard in the room is Sebastian's heavy breathing and the heavy pounding of his heartbeat.I clear my throat, breaking the silence before askin

  • Beyond the moon    Chapter 33

Valtor's POV That bastard treated me like trash. I feel so insulted. Because he is the Lycan king doesn't mean I can't bring him down like his weak father. He sure is playing with fire.Throwing off my suit jacket, I fling it in the direction of my massive living room before making my way to my bar to get myself a drink. I forcefully gulp down the whisky in my glass before pouring another one into my glass.Son of a bitch! He should have ended up the same way his weak father did and I would have ascended to the first most powerful Alpha. For this humiliation, I'll make sure he goes down. But there was something off about his house. I know I felt it. I know I sensed her but it was faint. Was she there? That's impossible! Greg said she was found dead that night. But how come I caught her scent in that place. Or am I mistaken? Gulping down the second shot, I desperately run my hand over my head, a wave of frustration washing over me. “What makes you worried, my love?" Sasha appears be

  • Beyond the moon    Chapter 32

We had successfully made Kaidaira spend the day in Catherine's house without letting her know the reason. It wasn't really easy convincing her…I mean…how can you convince someone that staying in their home so much will bore them? Kaidaira loves staying at home, she always says that the baby doesn't permit her to go out without a valuable reason. It wasn't long after Kaidaira and Catherine left the house that the annoying maggot came in. Who visits people's houses without an invite so damn early in the morning. Now I'll have to spend some hours pretending to be nice and faking a smile every now and then. I'm definitely going to need to kill someone after this meeting.Sitting on one of the couches in my living room, I signal him to sit on another couch far away from where I'm sitting_ He is already invading my personal space. He doesn't even let his beta sit beside him, instead his beta just stood beside him like a puppet.Roman takes his seat on the empty sofa beside me. From the co

  • Beyond the moon    Chapter 31

Sebastian's POV Sitting in my office in the pack house all day long is something I now find more boring since Kaidaira came into my life. It has always been boring but I was never in a hurry to go home because I didn't have anyone to go home to but now I have someone to go home too, my body aches to leave this place. But I have so much paperwork to do. It's 7:30pm and I'm sure my mate would be worried.Roman has been away for some errands and seeing that Catherine is pregnant, I shouldn't stress her. I scan through the opened file before me, trying to understand it for the tenth time today. The sun is setting outside already, casting its warm orange glow over this side of the world. Standing up from my seat, I walk towards the mini bar in my office and take out a bottle of whisky before pouring some into my glass. I swirl the glass of whisky in my hand while making my way back to my desk. A knock on the door breaks the silence in the quiet office. The door opens and Roman walks in

  • Beyond the moon    Chapter 30

“Catherine, please bring the chicken out of the oven and you'll help stir the sauce.” I say, carrying the bowl of salad to the dinner area. “Is the salad cream ready? The guys will be here anytime soon.” Catherine calls out behind me.“Yes love" I reply to her while setting the table. One may wonder what occasion we are having. We aren't having any occasion actually. Roman and Catherine just can't stay in their houses rather they prefer to spend the whole day here with me and Sebastian. Especially when Sebastian is not at home. “Have you seen Elena? She's not back yet?" Catherine asks, hanging her hands on her waist like a granny. She actually looks like a granny in that apron. “I can hear you. Well I don't look like a granny in this apron. It's sexy on me. Everything looks sexy on me. That's what Skyler says to me everyday.” She says, her cheeks flushes as she speaks. “Well…" I'm cut short by the footsteps approaching us from the front door. “Kai, you have a letter. Who still wri

  • Beyond the moon    Chapter 29

Kaidaira's POV It's been two days since I found out about Sebastian's affair. I still can't bring myself to look at him. I had also moved my thing to the guest room so I don't have to share the same space with him. My heart is broken, he hurt my feelings. The fact that he hid the memory from me hurts me the most. I can't stay here anymore, I need to leave. It's funny how a place that was once my sanctuary has now become too suffocating for me. Standing up from the bed, I walk towards my already packed boxes, I haven't unpacked it since I moved into this room. The memories of the good times I had with Sebastian flashes through my mind again, causing me to break down in tears.“Why did he do this to me? Why did he do this to us?” I myself, feeling the wave of hurt, anger and sadness wash through me with so much force.I hear a knock on the door, causing me to immediately wipe the tears off my face. It's probably Sebastian. He has been knocking and pleading for me to hear him out but

  • Beyond the moon    Chapter 28

With Nicole's car disappearing into the distance, the silence that follows is more suffocating. I can sense Kaidaira's feelings and her thoughts ringing audibly in my head. She can't bring herself to look at me. "My love, please listen to me. It's…it's not what you think," I say, my voice barely above a whisper. I try to touch her but she flinches even before my hand makes contact with hers. She stands up from her seat to walk away but I follow her. I'm not going to let her go. I can't afford to lose her.Trying again, but this time keeping my hands, “My Angel, it's not true. That bitch is… she's lying… please let me explain.”Her eyes flashes with anger and hurt as she turns to face me. " Explain?! You were with her, just days before our wedding. Just a few days!," she spits, her voice dripping with venom. "How could you, Sebastian?"I take a step forward, my hands reaching out to her, but she steps back from me, her eyes glaring daggers at me, breaking my heart the more. "Don't tou

  • Beyond the moon    Chapter 27

Sebastian's POV We make our way back to the picnic table with Kaidaira ranting about me cheating. Roman, Elena and Catherine are still seated, chatting and munching on their pastries. Roman and Catherine have always been slow eaters. They glance up at us, amusement dancing in their eyes."Looks like you two had a great game of tag," Roman says, chuckling."Yeah, I caught her." I say proudly.Kaidaira rolls her eyes, slapping my chest . "You cheated, you all made a pregnant woman get chased by a giant wolf. How irresponsible!" She says, pointing at each of us while scolding is like an angry granny.“Calm down girl! It's a form of exercising to keep both you and the baby fit." Catherine says, earning a glare from my mate which soon softens. Nobody can get mad at Catherine for so long.“Catherine, what's up with your mate? When are you giving us a nephew?" I say, amusement evident on my face, causing Roman to stifle his laughter. He better not laugh because Catherine will kill him.“We a
