~Kelvin~

She'll get over it.

Kelvin repeated to himself over and over again during the seven-minute drive to the pack house. Every muscle in his body buckled nervously, and his stomach felt taunt, yet …he chose to be confident.

She wouldn't abandon their marriage, or more accurately, she couldn't. He'd made sure of that when he married her for financial aid and gave her parents something that money couldn't buy so simply put, she was his piece of property.

His wolf was moaning and groaning that he'd cheated so shamelessly, but Kelvin ignored it.

He entered the pack house for the first time in days, recalling the events of the family gathering with a grimace.

His half sister, Becca, had made a softly passive-aggressive statement that maybe the fault of having a child might be his. Of course, he was enraged and had to defend himself! He was an alpha for goddess' sake!

How could he stand being publicly called impotent and brush it off with a laugh? It was Rosa’s fault for giving him false hope. And what was wrong with him trying to recover unconventionally with another woman? It's not like he slept with her all the time! Just occasionally.

After armoring himself with justification after justification, he went off to their bedroom, where he predicted she was probably pretending to pack her things.

But when he stood at their bedroom door, there was no inkling of pretense in her desperate movements. She picked up only the essentials: a couple of clothes, some lesser feminine fabrics, and then a few hygiene products.

He watched her like he was seeing a horror movie unfold before his eyes.

It was only when she started zipping up her bag that he snapped back to reality and shot over to her, encircling her wrist in a domineering grip.

“And just what do you think you are doing?!” his voice cracked before he realized it, “Stop overreacting and let's talk!”

The usual Rosa would have folded like a paper clip, apologized, and humbly rearranged her things without a single mumble against him.

But instead of rolling over like he expected, she bared her teeth and said.

“Either you let go right now or I make you, your choice…”

An odd feeling trickled down his back, who was this woman in front of him? Eyes blazing like lasers, her words piercing him like sharpened icicles.

This couldn't be the simple Rosa that he had known for the past 5 years, the same Rosa that was always at his beck and call. All he ever had to do was tell her jump, and her response would be ‘how high?’

How on Earth did his infidelity give her a backbone? She shouldn't be capable of owning one at all!

No, Rosa still loved him. At least, she had no choice but to. Her parents had practically sold her off, and she had no one else in the world. What could a mateless She Wolf possibly achieve by herself?

Especially someone as clueless and naive as Rosa, indeed she was just throwing a petty little tantrum. When she realizes just how much she needs him, she'll come crawling back and maybe, just maybe, he'll take her back if he's generous enough.

Sandra might have started off as simple fun but he couldn't deny that he liked the way she made him feel.

While intimacy with Rosa was predictable and basically routine sometimes for him, Sandra was easily excitable and the type that liked to explore, each encounter with his secretary was a tantalizing experience he couldn't shake off completely.

So he wanted to keep her around as his lover. Rosa will just have to deal with that. He was kind enough to give her time to come to terms with it.

He released her and she aggressively finished closing up her bag, launched it up to her waist in a tight grip, and marched out of the pack house without stopping once.

Kelvin watched with morbid shock, but was able to convince himself once again that he wouldn't need it to worry about her coming back–she would…with time.

He looked around their bedroom. She had only taken a few things with her, but why did it feel so achingly empty?

He couldn't stay here. Just before he could think about where to go next, his phone vibrated inside his pocket, and he fished it out quickly, already guessing who was calling him.

“Sandra…” he said cooly, “...get ready in that new lingerie I just bought and tell the hotel room service to bring up some wine…you know the kind I like,” He ended the call car without a word from her and sauntered downstairs already fantasizing about how he was going to behave coldly towards Rosa when she’d come back.

Her smile quickly evaporated when he saw one of his least favorite people standing at the bottom of the stairs with her hands crossed and a disapproving look on her face.

“Becca.” The sound of his half-sister's name left a bitter taste in his mouth.

“Why didn't you tell me you were coming to visit?” he said with forced cordiality. Becca and her mates were high-ranking wolves, even if he disliked her down to his bones, he knew that she was essential for his end goal–the throne.

“I wanted to check up on your mate,” she said frankly. “I also wanted to repay her for the party,”

His lips twisted distressfully, “Did you guys get close just because she threw you a party? You know it's only because mother forced her to do so,”

“It doesn't change the fact that she did it anyway,” She shot back, looking at him with disdain.

“Why are you glaring at me like that?” He asked defensively holding the railing of the staircase.

“You tell me,” She said, stepping closer, “I saw how your mate was crying. Spill it. Who's the other woman?”

Kelvin's walls grew, just because she was supporting him did not mean that she needed to know every personal detail in his life.

“Rosa is lying, she's just embarrassed because of what happened a few days ago. There's no other woman,” Kelvin said firmly.

His sister released a snake-like grin.

“I never said Rosa told me there was another woman,”

The night swallowed them both. Elena’s screams faded into the darkness until the house was silent, too silent. Outside, Rosa walked through the empty streets, coldly licking her skin, her slippers making a sound as they slapped the surface of the earth. She clung to Elena as the baby tried her best to move."Let me go! Mommy, please!” she cried. Silence. Only Kelvin’s steady. The street was empty. Wind hissed around her. Rosa didn’t stop, it was as if she was obeying the call of a spirit. Like they were waiting for her and she had to hurry. All Elena's cries fell on deaf ears. She walked until she got to the outskirts of the town She stopped at a tall, dark, covered house. The abandoned house. The wooden door creaked open before she touched it. They were waiting. Whoever was controlling her was waiting for her to meet them. To sacrifice her own child to them. While her husband lay on the ground back at the house, almost dying. Inside, the air smelled dusty, cold, alive

Pierce's vision narrowed to a blurred view. His fingers clawed uselessly at Rosa's wrists, not the witch's, and that was the cruelty of it. The face he'd loved and who he was so sure loved him tightened her grip around him ready to kill him She's still in there. Rosa's still in there. He tried to convince himself. His lungs screamed for air. The world tilted sideways. "Daddy!" Elena's voice cut through the room as she ran down. Rosa's grip tightened. Pierce felt something crack in his throat. His legs gave out. "MOMMY, STOP!" Elena shouted, and tears rolled down her face. Her voice filled with terror. "Please! Please don't hurt Daddy! What's wrong with you? Why are you doing this?" For a fraction of a second, Rosa's fingers loosened. Just barely. Just enough for Pierce to drag in a wheezing breath. *She heard her. Elena got through. "Mommy, it's me! It's Elena!" The little girl was sobbing now, the pendant clutched in both hands. "Please come back! I need you! I need my mommy

Pierce didn't hesitate. He rushed forward, scooping Elena into his arms just as Rosa's body fell violently on the floor. "Daddy!" Elena shrieked, reaching for what looked like her mother. "That's not Mommy right now, baby," Pierce said, his voice steady despite the terror clawing at his chest. He backed toward the door, and Elena clutched tight against him. "Abel Thomas! Get up NOW!" In the hallway, confusion erupted. Matthew stumbled out of his room, rubbing his eyes. " Pierce? What's—" "No questions. Downstairs. Move!" Pierce's voice carried the kind of authority that echoed around the hallway. Abel appeared at the doorway. He looked across the floor, “Rosa,” he tried to reach, “Stop, that is not your Roa right now. I'll explain later. GO!" Behind them, Rosa's body rose from the floor with a smile on her face. Her voice echoes around the hallway. "The children must come with their mother. The blood moon demands it." Pierce shoved the kids toward the stairs. "Run. Get

The reflection in the mirror showed Kelvin's sharp jawline, his broad shoulders, his calloused hands gripping the mirror's edge. Rosa's scream came out in his deep baritone voice. The woman holding the mirror smiled. She was ancient, she had black skin that could melt with the night, "You're in the in-between, dear child. The space where souls wait while their vessels are borrowed." Rosa stumbled backward, Kelvin's larger frame unsteady under her unfamiliar control. The room around her wasn't really a room at all. Shadows pressed in from every direction, occasionally flickering. Her mind immediately flew to her children "Where are my children?" Rosa asked, but her voice came out deep like nothing had happened. "What have you done to my babies?" The old woman set the mirror down on a table with a smile on her face. A dark smile. "Your children are precisely where you left them. Safe in their beds. For now." She circled Rosa slowly, her bare feet making a wet sound on the ston

Kelvin's eyes snapped open to darkness so complete it felt like drowning. His heart hammered against his ribs, no, not his ribs. Something was wrong. Terribly, impossibly wrong. He tried to sit up, but his body wouldn't obey. It moved, yes, but not of his own accord. His arms pushed against the mattress, his legs swung over the edge of the bed, his feet touched the cold hardwood floor, all without his permission. He was a passenger in his own body, except this wasn't his body at all. The realization crashed over him like ice water when he caught sight of his reflection in the darkened window. . Rosa's face stared back at him, her delicate face twisted in an expression of horror that he couldn't even control. Her dark hair fell over shoulders that felt too narrow, too slight. When he tried to scream, only a soft exhale escaped her lips. “What is happening? What is this?” The body, Rosa's body, moved through the hallway. Kelvin fought against the invisible strings pulling

Kelvin woke in a room that shouldn't exist. The walls were made of shadow, not painted black or draped in fabric, but literally constructed from darkness that shifted and breathed. . "Awake. Good." The voice came from everywhere and nowhere. Kelvin tried to sit up, but found his body still burned and broken from the weapon's backlash. Rosa's healing had stabilized him, but he was far from recovered. Kelvin immediately screamed, “Somebody help me!” But no one came. A voice came to meet him. A shadow: Kevin saw only their shadows, not their bodies. "Kelvin Brennan," the central figure spoke, voice ageless and cold. "Do you know where you are?" "Hell?" Kelvin croaked through his damaged throat. "Close. You're in the space between spaces, where the Shadow Council convenes." The figure lowered her good "My name is Morrigan. I was Margaret's mentor, her guide, and ultimately, the one who ordered her death." Kelvin's blood ran cold. "You killed Margaret?" "We allowed her to die," a
