It's the last stage of the interviews and the team was losing hope of finding a replacement for Thomas, our resigning data scientist. This was the first time I sat down with them since the interview process began. If these were the shortlisted candidates so far there was little hope we would find a suitable person in time for Thomas to groom the new recruit before he retires.
