Amelia picked up her phone, chatting with her friends online. Ava stared at her, wishing she could report to her mother that Amelia had a phone; but it was open news now. No one cares. Her future–in–law had insisted they needed the means to get in touch with Amelia, and they needed her number in case of emergency. Ava walked into the room brushing things on the floor without picking them back up. Amelia stared at her favorite brush on the floor, followed by her favorite mirror broken into pieces. It's okay, she thought to herself. 'Ava was trying to get a reaction from me, but I won't give her the satisfaction'. Her eyeballs were red and her lips were bruised from biting it."Are you glad now that you have stolen my groom?" Ava stood in front of her with puffy eyes. Amelia dressed in a baby pink gown Mike had delivered through an agency, closed her eyes, and put her eyeliner back in her makeup back. It was her first date with Mike, not that she was looking forward to it,
'I am getting married.' Mike stared at the message Phoenix12 had sent him. How was that possible? He was also planning to tell her about his pending marriage, and here she was telling him about hers. That must have been fate at work.'Congratulations, Phoenix. I guess you are finally rising in a way.'Her response was swift, 'In a way I am. I could finally say I am breaking away from my cage. What I don't know is if I am going to a new cage or maybe this is my one chance at freedom. But, I am taking my chances."He frowned. What does this mean? Was she not in love with whoever she was getting married to? 'I wanted to ask who the lucky guy was, but it seems you are not in love with your fiancé. Is he ugly?"He pictured her laughing. Although he had no idea what she looked like, to him she had always been young, with a pretty face. There was no way the lady he was talking to would be old. 'He is too good-looking, and that's a problem on its own. It's an arranged marriage.
"Whatsup, handsome," A strange voice said, making Mike turn. A slim lady stood in front of him smiling. She wore a dress that revealed too much of her legs, that he was tempted to help her pull it down, but it was none of his business. She looked beautiful too. He smiled back at her knowing he wasn't going to like whatever she had to say, but trying to give her the benefit of the doubt. "Do I know you?" He questioned. She paused, closing the distance between them with a perfect catwalk. Her gaze was fixed on his. When she got in front of him, she paused, ogling him. He felt cheap. "You don't, but I don't mind changing that. I'm Eve, and you are?""You don't need to know."It wasn't something new to him. He was aware that ladies easily get attracted to him because of his looks. They just wanted to get into his pants. He wasn't that sort of guy, and wouldn't want to waste time doing something like a meaningless fling. She pouted, trying to act cute. "But, I want to know.
The house was in disarray; someone was walking at every corner of the apartment. There was carrying of things to the kitchen, then arranging of the rooms in the house. Amelia could hardly comprehend what was going on all at once. For a secret wedding, Amelia thought her parents were doing too much. The only one who wasn't interested in anything they were doing was Ava, and she made it known by locking herself in her room. The Afonso's had decided to move the wedding forward; there was no reason to delay it, and they wanted Mike married before his inauguration. Amelia moved among the maids, avoiding anyone's attention including Loveth. For someone getting married that day, she felt underdressed. Her stepmother was more focused on making the Afonso's comfortable than dressing her up and making her look presentable on her wedding day. She forced a smile on whoever passed beside her, looking for her Stepmother. She might not be so interested in the wedding, but she was not going
"Are you having wedding jitters," Steve said beside Mike. He was dressed in a three-piece suit, alongside Mike. Mike had been quiet, reminiscing on Amelia's words about their marriage. He was thinking of ways to get her to change her mind about it. "Wow, man, chill. You are the one bringing the bride home. You are not leaving your home."He turned towards Steve with a raised brow, "Can you just shut up? I am the one getting married, but you have been talking non-stop. I don't have wedding jitters, just needed some minutes to myself."Steve nodded with a smile. He couldn't relate to Mike, but he tried to understand him sometimes. The pressure Mike was under was nothing strange to him, and he would have acted the same way. He couldn't imagine getting married to some strange woman, all because he wanted to please his family. The car ride to Amelia's place was silent. The Afonso had gone with three cars; one for the groom and his best man, one for his parents, and one for Shar
Amelia stood in front of the mansion that would soon be called her home. Her parents-in-law had hugged her, welcoming her to the family, while introducing the newly wedded to their wing of the mansion. It was their wedding present to Mike. They wanted him to have his privacy with his wife without involving the whole family but made Amelia promise to eat dinner with them once in a while. Amelia nodded; she didn't eat dinner with her family at home, so it was going to be a nice change. The wing that was allocated to them looked new. Mike pulled her close to him, "Are you ready to start your new life, Mrs. Afonso?"Amelia continued staring at the mansion. It was a question, she had no answer to. Was she ready to start a new life, after discovering that her family might not be hers? How could she start a new life when they were untold stories about her past she needed to uncover? After all, it was said that one's past and present determine their future. She knows her prese
The door of the room vibrated, and all Mike could do was stare at it. She wasn't what he had expected at all. Given, he had no idea who his wife was. All he knew about her was her name, and the list of things her parent had told his parents about her. Apart from that, he had no idea she was going to be that stubborn or counter every word that came out of his mouth. Although that was going to change soon, he deserved to know his wife. They might not be allowed to go on their honeymoon, but nothing was going to stop him from giving her a honeymoon here at home.He changed out of his suit, to one of his casual round tops and shorts. He needed to know where his wife has stormed off too. She had dropped the box in anger when he refused to allow her to move to the guest room and stormed out of their room. If she planned to avoid him for this one year, then his plan was simple. It was to bring her closer to him. He had never had a family he was close to, but this was going to be d
The room was so silent that a drop of pins could be heard, Mike sat beside Amelia. The only member of the family absent was Sharon. She wasn't summoned to the meeting by their parents. Mike's eyes moved from his father who sat on his favorite chair like the king of the world, to his mother who sat opposite them. The reason they were summoned was unknown to them both, but they had woken up this morning to a call from one of the maids."Good to have you both here. Amelia, welcome to the family."Amelia nodded but didn't say a word. Mike had no idea if she was afraid or nervous, but he knew he was nervous. Every time his parent called him into the study, it had always been to discuss something important. His hand moved towards Amelia's until he found it. He held her hand where his parents wouldn't see it and squeezed it. He was expecting her to fight him, but she squeezed his hand back, which gave him a bit of assurance."I called you guys for a little family discussion. I know
