Chapter 5 - Exaggerated Compensation

The people on the other side of the phone went silent for a moment before they exploded."What do you mean, no?! Do you really hate us now because of Noah? Cameron, you can't just hate us because of that guy!" Mrs. Everest exploded after hearing Cameron's rejection.

Her hatred for her son reached a new height when Noah, who was closely listening to his mom, twitched his lips in response while Aubrey's eyes were calmly glaring daggers at Cameron.

Cameron did not have any patience to pay any attention to the two; her decision to stay away from this group of scumbags made her harden her heart and not care about anything that wouldn't affect her life.

But even if she decided to stay away from her scumbag husband, she couldn't possibly stay away from her ex-husband's family since his family was really like family to her.

But then again, by continuing to involve herself with the Everest family, she knows that it will lead to something unpleasant.

"No, I will occasionally meet with all of you; don't worry about that." Cameron changed her words after a moment of thought.

"But only if I get to divorce your son and I won't be adopted by your family, then we can still get along well and harmoniously," Cameron added once again, adding that the originally happy people on the other side of the phone stopped.

It was only after awhile when the patriarch coughed and said, "If we can't change your thoughts, then we will gladly accept it. Sigh."

The patriarch's long sighed echoed as the background noise at the other side of the phone rustled for a moment before Mrs. Everest's voice was once again heard.

"Give the phone back to Noah, sweetie," Mrs. Everest's soft voice echoed as Cameron obediently gave the phone back to Noah without making eye contact with the weird gazes that Aubrey and Noah were using to look at her.

Noah pursed his lips and turned the speaker off.

Bringing the phone closer to his ear, he muttered, "Mom."

Noah's face flinched slightly after hearing the voice transmitted from the other side of the phone.

It continued for minutes before Noah hung up the phone and took a deep breath.Glancing coldly in Cameron's direction, he stopped the secretary who was about to finalize the papers.

"Please change the compensation to $1 billion." Noah quietly said but his eyes were dark.

"1 billion?! That's too much to give to her, Noah!" Noah head was too muddleheaded and angry already after having been scolded too harshly and also treated with no respect since he established his own business from his very own mother, who seemed to love his ex-wife more than him as her child' so when he heard Aubrey shouting out of the blue, he stared at Aubrey with cold eyes for the first time since they met for the second time after years of being apart.

"1 billion is not much. Quiet down and don't meddle into anything here; I should not have brought you here!" Noah coldly said.

Aubrey was somewhat shocked to be treated like this, but then her eyes reddened instinctively.

If it were in the past, Noah would surely find time to comfort her, but Noah can't be bothered by her, and coupled with all the sudden shouting earlier, he really can't bring himself to pay any attention to the woman he said that he 'loved' the most.

Cameron looked at this hyprotical duo in front of her, especially Noah's scum actions that made her sneer secretly.

He and Aubrey really are a good match. Such a guy... is not worthy of being a father.

Cameron lowered her head silently and carressed her belly gently, not stopping Noah from changing the compensation that Aubrey, who was waiting for her to intervene, hated that iron is not steel enough.

But then again...

Why would she steel herself?

Such compensation is enough to prevent her from living the rest of her life peacefully with the children that she finally decided to keep.

The divorce process finally ended as a sum of money was sent to her bank directly by Noah, who indifferently glanced at her before operating his phone to make a phone call, and Aubrey, who was behind him, had an ugly face and was glaring daggers in her direction, anxious that she had gotten a lot of money in the process of this divorce.

"I will separate with you now then.Cameron stopped and looked at Aubrey slightly, then glanced at Noah coldly. Her slight beating heart went frozen and cold, not feeling anything after seeing that familiar cold and resentful gaze.

She took a deep breath and smiled for the last time, her hands gripping her phone tightly. "You... you will never change," she paused on talking as Noah furrowed his brows at her while Aubrey also confusedly looked at her.

Cameron did not continue to suspense the two as she pursed her lips and smiled once again, continuing to say, "But I hope that you change for who you have chosen... but then again, I doubt you can do it."

Cameron's voice was so low that Noah, who couldn't be bothered to listen to her, did not hear her second sentence at all, but even if Noah did not hear it, Aubrey surely did.

Her heart beat faster in anxiety, and her entire body went cold.

Because she knows...

She also knows...

Noah is not the kind of person to change for a mere woman; he just wanted to be an obedient display at his house, not extravagant but gentle, humble, sweet, and obedient.

Just like... a perfect puppet that can be used and manipulated at will.

She does not believe that she was chosen by Noah because she was his first love, but because he wanted Cameron to continue staying gentle, humble, sweet, and obedient towards him even if he continued to interact with her.

She, as a woman, knows it and feels it.

Noah is the only one who cannot feel it or even realize it, watching the woman that he tried hard to carve into the perfect puppet inside his mind, completely letting go of his hands after a lot of struggles and hurt.

Cameron looked at Aubrey's pale face, her dark eyes fleeting with a light smile before it disappeared. Nodding her head, she said her goodbye.

"Goodbye"

Cameron turned her back on the two people that hurt her during these past few months, never turning back as she, step by step, went far away from the life that would lead her to a life full of hurt if she continued to hold on to that last hope.

Since... She saw that look in Aubrey's eyes.

The anxiety that she can never change 'someone'

She took a deep breath after entering a cab and dialing a phone number. She quietly muttered after the phone beeped, "Cancel my surgery."
