Sophia's POV

I looked at the doctor, then at the man who had just called himself my father and I laughed very hard. This must have been a joke but only that none of them had a smile. Their faces were both serious and I thought again within me, maybe we were now on a movie role so I decided to ask.

“Where's the camera?”

Both the doctor and Mr. Lance looked at each other. They were not understanding where I was heading to. It was my turn to enjoy the look of confusion on their faces since they all decided to turn this into a movie.

Mr. Lance cleared his throat, “Uhm, what camera are you talking about Sophie?”

“Sophia,” I interject him sharply. “The name is Sophia and not Sophie. And since you have both decided to make this a movie, I'm yet to see a camera.”

“Mr. Lance, I would need to take my leave now,” the doctor turned to leave but I stopped him.

“You can't leave yet, at least we haven't finished the movie you started,” I said and he stopped on his tracks, his eyes twitching in confusion. “Anyway what's my role in this blockbuster we are acting.”

“Sophia,” Mr. Lance called out slowly. “Why do you take this as some joke? Why…”

I couldn't take it anymore so I cut in, “No! You are the one who took my situation as a joke in the first place. First, you waltzed in here claiming to be my saviour, then next you claimed to be my father.” I paused to catch my breath, “tell me how delusional can you be? You think I don't recognize my own father? Or that I lost my brain alongside the baby?”

The doctor had a shocked look on his face after my outburst. Obviously, he might think I was a little harsh or rude with the way I just chastised Mr. Lance but in all honesty, I don't care — even if he was the country's richest man. He had it coming when he kept uttering nonsense like someone that just got out of asylum.

“I know it's hard to believe,” he began, choosing his words slowly. “I didn't believe it either, but first I saw this,” he moved closer pointing to a mark in my forearm, “then finally this, it proved indeed all I said is true.”

He completed his statement by handing me a piece of paper. I hesitated for a moment but he urged me to collect the piece of paper.

“What am I to do with this?”

“It confirms everything that seems to confuse you,” he explains, “you can also see I have this in my arm.”

I didn't notice he had off the top of his suit until he called my attention. He was having the same mark I was having on my right arm.

“It's a tradition in our family to give a new child this mark, right after birth.”

“And this can't be a mere coincidence?” I asked but he shook his head.

“No, I've thought of that. That was why I asked the doctor for a DNA test. The result is what you are holding in your hand.”

My eyes skimmed through the piece of paper in my hands. There was mostly medical jargon that seemed to make no sense to me. But there were also a few words that I understood. Only that I'm still confused and everything still doesn't make sense to me.

“For all I know, this could have been made up,” I countered.

“And what do I stand to gain if I made that up? Don't you think about that?” He asked me then nodded at the doctor. I had suddenly forgotten he was still in the room with us. “Dr. Philips here can get another test done. But if you want a totally new hospital, then that can also be arranged.”

I looked into his eyes and all I saw was sincerity. Even when I tried to come up with thoughts to refute his claim, most of them looked unreasonable. A lot of questions were ringing in my head that I had no answers to. He had no reason to lie. What does he even stand to gain by lying that someone like me would be his daughter? That would totally make no sense, would it?

I sighed loudly as I found myself believing him. But a new anger had suddenly welled up in me. And with that, I looked up straight at him.

“So you abandoned me all these years, and now you suddenly feel it's time to come claim me, huh? Tell me, am I some kind of a property?”

He flinched as he looked everywhere but me. Dr. Philip wasn't in the room with us anymore. He must have stepped out while I was deep in thoughts.

“I didn't abandon you,” his voice was croaky as he faced me. Had he been crying? “Never will I abandon my own child.”

“I was away on a business trip when I got the news,” he paused, trying to stifle his emotion, then continued. “You were both involved in an accident when she was coming back home from a medical checkup. The car had almost burned beyond recognition. Only…”

“Wait! I don't get it, was I not in the car?”

“No, only your mother and the driver were in the car.” He said and handed me a picture. “Her name is Fiona and you are the exact replica of her.”

Looking at the picture in my hand confirmed what he just said. I was indeed a carbon copy of the woman in the picture. A tear dropped from my eye as I imagined what it would have been like to meet her.

“It was an attack.”

“What?” I asked, not understanding what he just said.

“The accident, it was a planned attack.” He said and I watched his fist tighten.

I could see the fury in his eyes as he fought the urge to keep the tears from falling. I could imagine the pain he went through reliving those memories. I shared the same pain with him, afterall, the woman in question was my mother.

We both fell into silence but the shrill sound of my phone brought me out of my thoughts. I looked at the phone to know who was calling and a sudden anger surged within me.

Why was this jerk calling me?

  • Billionaire ex-husband craves me back   Chapter 16

Sophia's POV I stirred on the bed as the shrill sound from the alarm disturbed my peaceful sleep. The morning light streamed through the curtains of my bedroom, painting the room in a soft, golden glow. The encounter with Donald and Laura at the hospital, the sharp sting of Laura’s words, the unsettling sight of Donald’s surprise – it all seemed a little less vivid, a little less painful, in the clear light of a new day.As I sat properly on the bed, memories of the previous day began to flood my mind, but this time, there was a different undercurrent to them. Instead of anger or despair, there was a quiet sense of resolution, a feeling that I had finally turned a corner.I had woken with a singular thought, one that had been bubbling in the back of my mind. I didn't want to think about them anymore. Donald. Laura. Their supposed happiness. Their world. I was going to focus on my own.I recalled how I’d almost, for a fleeting moment, considered using the information I had, the knowle

Sophia's POV“Sophia?” Donald finally managed to say, his voice a low, hesitant murmur. He took a step, his gaze roaming between Laura’s now-stiff posture and my own composed face. “What… what are you doing here at the hospital?”I scoffed. It wasn’t a loud, angry sound, but a soft, dismissive puff of air. The audacity. After everything. After he had ghosted me, left me, divorced me without a second glance, he had the nerve to ask me what I was doing in a hospital? The irony was so bitter it almost made me laugh. He had no idea the depths of pain I had just navigated in these very walls.“You have no right, Donald,” I stated, my voice flat, devoid of emotion. “You have no right asking what I come to do in the hospital.” My gaze met his directly, holding his surprised stare.Donald’s eyes flashed, a brief, angry spark deep within them. It was a familiar flicker, the kind I used to see when he was challenged, when he felt his authority questioned. He opened his mouth, as if to talk, but

Sophia's POV That morning, a wave of nausea washed over me, a sickening lurch that had become all too familiar in the past week. It wasn't just the grief, the shock of learning about my birth parents, or the sting of seeing Donald’s happy remarriage. It was something deeper, something like a hollowness in my stomach, a profound weariness that even the opulent surroundings of my real father's mansion couldn’t alleviate. I felt… drained. Empty. My father, bless his attentive heart, had noticed. He’d insisted I see his private doctor, Dr. Philip, a man whose calm demeanor and gentle questions were somehow more unnerving than any aggressive interrogation. I sat in his quiet office, the air smelling faintly of antiseptic and something floral, trying to articulate the physical symptoms of my emotional turmoil.Dr. Philip listened patiently, his brow furrowed in concentration as he examined me. He asked about my diet, my sleep, and, of course, my emotional state. I mentioned the stress, the

Donald's POV The biting Colorado air was a sharp contrast to the cozy warmth of the spa, but Laura insisted. “Honey, you need to relax,” she chirped, her eyes sparkling with an almost aggressive cheerfulness. “This is our honeymoon! No work, no stress, just us.” She’d practically dragged me from the steam room, her excitement infectious, or perhaps just overwhelming.Mount Devon Hot Springs. The name itself sounded peaceful, and the reality lived up to it. The resort was nestled in a valley, surrounded by snow-capped peaks that loomed majestically against a crisp blue sky. Even the cold seemed to hold a certain charm here. The private soak Laura had managed to book for us was meant to be the pinnacle of relaxation, a chance to truly unwind after the whirlwind of the wedding and the discreet media frenzy that followed.I sat now in the warm water, the steam rising around me, clinging to my skin. Laura was already submerged, her bright blonde hair fanned out on the edge of the stone po

Sophia's POV I was sitting in Mark’s mansion, in a living room so big it felt like a hotel lobby. Sunlight streamed through tall windows, glinting off polished surfaces and expensive-looking art. There were plush sofas, soft rugs, and a quiet hum of central air. It was all very grand, very comfortable, and almost overwhelming. I still felt like a visitor, even though Mark kept insisting this was my home now. It had only been a week since he had dropped the bomb about being my father, and since I’d learned about my birth mother. My head was still spinning.I scrolled through my phone, trying to make sense of the new Wi-Fi connection, trying to find something to distract myself. It was a normal phone, nothing fancy, but even its screen felt small and out of place in these massive rooms. I wasn’t looking for anything specific, just wasting time, trying to push away the heavy thoughts of my past, my real past, and this strange new reality I was supposed to accept. Then, a headline caught

Sophia's POV “I believe you have something to tell me,” I broke the silence, staring at the man that I once considered as my father.Just when I wanted to leave, he had summoned me in. But that cold look in his eyes, was now replaced with something different. Was it remorse? Or an entirely different feeling? Only time will tell.I watched him rub his jaw, as if suddenly nervous. His eyes darted between the woman sitting beside him before settling back on me.He cleared his throat, his eyes fixed on me. “Sophia,” he called my name slowly. “All these years, we have always been there for you, treating you like the precious jewel that you really are. Why did you bring this up now?”I couldn't believe my ears. Why did I bring this up? Why would he even ask that? Isn't it right for me to know my real parents? So, why was he making it look like I did a bad thing by wanting to know?“I need to know the truth,” I insisted. Even though I already figured out the answer from the nervous looks on
