Chapter 41

Caleb woke up the next morning to an empty bed. He imagined that Aideen left in the early hours of the morning snuck out while he was asleep. His heart shattered, and he lay in bed disappointed.

Last night was amazing. She was exactly the type of woman that Caleb wished he had, one like her that wouldn’t run away. Finally, after Caleb finished sulking, he forced himself out of bed and went to take a shower.

The warm water ran over his skin and washed away the smell of Aideen. It was better to not think of her. Caleb knew that being with her was too good to be true. Why did he ever think she would want to be with him?

Caleb would always leave when a call came in for a new case, his phone would constantly be ringing, time spent with Aideen would have to be scheduled, and after a hard case, he would come home irritable and seem like a jerk. Caleb would choose to work on a case rather than spend a romantic evening with her because he knows he has responsibilities. The consequences were
