FORTY NINE – TEMPORARY ESCAPE

Mason's words hit me with the force of a tow truck. Suddenly, I feel cold. I wrap my arms tight around myself, trying to fight the numbing cold that settles deep in my bones.

How the hell did water get on the stairs anyways? Who was responsible for it? Why would Mason blame me?

Anyone could be responsible. Thelma, the guards, Devon…anyone. But this can only mean one thing. It is either the water was an accident, or a perfectly orchestrated plan. And my mind is dangerously tilting towards the later option.

The room where Dorchester is being attended to isn't sound proof, so I can hear his pained cries as the doctor tries to work on him. My heart twists and turns in my chest. Poor baby.

Mason's fiery, enraged eyes flashes through my subconscious. Oh, Lord, please let the little boy be okay. Mason isn't ready to listen to anything I say. I can only imagine what he would to me if Dutch's situation gets worse.
