TWENTY SIX – JEALOUSY AND HEAT

Mason hasn't said a single word to me since we left Vanessa's town house. He also stopped Damon from coming with us.

To say that I'm scared is a gross understatement. Fear sits at the pit of my stomach, hard and icy.

I step into the cool interior of the tinted SUV while Damon and Mason have a heated conversation outside. The driver turns to say hello.

I gasp.

"Hurricane!"

He gives me a toothed smile.

"In the flesh, miss Rodriguez."

"What the hell happened to you?"

He shrugs.

"Nothing really. Mr. Mason suspended me for a few days."

My heart falls.

"I'm so sorry for dragging you into this mess."

He waves a hand, dismissing my apology.

"Ah, that's okay. It's all good. What trouble have you gotten yourself into this time?"

I bite my lower lip and look away.

"He's definitely killing me this time."

Hurricane scoffs.

"Mr. Mason would never hurt you. You'll be fine."

I hope so.

Just then, Mason pulls the door open and steps in. I stiffen, shifting further away from him. I have no idea
