Sophia’s POV

I walked into the Blackwood Enterprise, I had just sighted Damian about to enter his car, was he going out? I had thought within me, “ Mr. Blackwood!” I called his name as I hastened my footsteps and that stopped him mid way. “ We are supposed to be having an interview,” I said immediately I got to him, he turned to me and gave me cold stare, “ You’re late,” He continued,

“ I have somewhere to be, maybe some other time,” He said and hopped into the car, “ I can’t go back empty handed,” I said in a husked tone, I became frustrated, what do I do now? This was my fault, I was late already, I stood there stranded, he whined down he car window and gave me a mean look, “ Would you like to come with me?” He asked in a cold tone, I thought about it,

“ Fine,” I walked to the other side of the car, and he opened the door for me to come in.

I hopped into the car immediately, “ Fasten your seat belt” He said and drove off, Damian drove in silence, his hands gripping the steering wheel with firm precision, his eyes were locked on the road ahead, The between us was thick, and heavy with unspoken words, I got curious about where we were heading to, I got restless and unease “ Mr. Blackwood where are we headed?” He ignored like no one has spoken, nothing , no response, a bit of embarrassment flashed my face, my look was pale, I started to regret why I had followed him, I clenched my fist, why did he ignore me, “ Are you ignoring me now?” I said with irritation slipping through my tone, I shifted in my seat, glancing at him, at least expecting a flicker of acknowledgement, But he remained Quiet, his jaw clenched as if my words didn’t exist. Then he turned, slowly, his stare cold and unreadable, his gaze locked unto mine for a mere second then shifted back to the road, like he never cared, I swallowed back my frustration, arrogant animal.

Minutes later the car slowed, pulling up in from of a small elegant flower , Without a word Damian pushed the door and stepped out “ I’m coming,” He said and walked into the flower shop, why does he act like he is so important, I gave a disgusting look, I saw him through the glass of the flower shop, my brow knitting in confusion, as I saw him picking a bouquet, the cashier handed the white Lily to him, he took without hesitation and expression unreadable, my stomach twisted, was this for someone? Within five minutes he came back, he slid into the divers seat not saying a word, he shoved the flower at the back seat like it meant nothing.

I tuned to ask. The words hovered on my tongue, but something about his facial expression, Cold, unreadable made me hesitate. Instead, I watched as he switch the ignition key, accelerating with the same cold efficiency as before.

The drive continued Then, finally, we pulled up in front of a cemetery.

My pulse stilled.

I stared at Damian in confusion, I felt the fear in heart, The iron gates loomed ahead, weathered and imposing, the silence of the cemetery sent a chill through me, I could feel my heart race.

Damian stepped out without hesitation. I stayed shocked and confused , I gripped the edge of my seat. What were we doing here?

A sharp voice cut through the stillness.

“Won’t you get down?” His tone carried its usual arrogance, he spoke rudely again but there was something else too, something strange .

I swallowed and pushed the door open, stepping out onto the uneven gravel. The place was calm, I could feel the thick silence in the atmosphere.

“Mr. Blackwood, what are we doing here?” My brow furrowed as unease coiled inside me.

His head turned slightly, gaze sharp as a blade.

“You ask too many damn questions, Elena.” His voice was husk, edged with something unreadable.

Then, without another word, he turned and walked through the gates, leaving me standing there with nothing but the echo of his words and the heavy weight of my own unanswered questions.

I followed quickly, my heels clicked against the floor, Then he stopped in front of a tomb.

He looked at the tomb, his facial expression showed emotions, sad, his face pale, his eyes blood shot then he bent down and slowly placed the lilies on it, I swallowed, my curiosity burning through the thick air, The Name written with bold letters, ‘EMILIA’ who was she? Who was this woman that made Damian humane, he stared at the tomb, ‘ EMILIA,’ He said in husk voice, his usual cold face softened, I could see the emotions in his eyes, It was so shocking seeing him that way, the arrogant Man few minutes ago was now calm and soft spoken, I went closer to him, “ Was she someone important to you?” He didn’t answer immediately, Instead he exhaled and stared at the tomb as if he was waiting for an answer, Then he said in voice colder and shaky , “She was the only one who stood with me in my darkest time, And now….,” A sigh escaped his lips heavy with sorrow.

Something he said that sent chills down my spine, ‘His darkest times’ “ Is that why you left for years?” I said sharply, the words left my mouth before I could stop them, His head tilted slightly, his gaze cutting through me, “ Disappeared? ” I don’t owe anyone an explanation about where I go to and reason,” he spoke in a husk tone, His words were cold and the wind sent chills on my skin.

His usual arrogant tone again, but beneath it was his past he had no intentions of sharing to anyone, I pressed further and didn’t want to back down, “Did you love her?” There was silence, then he laughed, aloud, my brow furrowed in confusion, what’s funny, was my question some sort of joke? Then he turned slightly, his eyes unreadable, he ran a hand through his hair, Then he turned to me and locked his eyes with mine, “ A little girl I once knew, we grew up together, then one day…. One day she was gone,” His words made my heart race faster, she was gone? To where, I wanted to know more, He turned to walk way “ You remind me of her sometimes,” He said in a cold tone, tucked his hands into his pocket and started walking towards the gate, Me? I gripped my hand bag in fear, I stood, staring at the tomb, I was curious, a lot of questions crossed my mind, Who is Emilia? And how do I remind Damian of her?

  • Billionaire's Dark veil    Chapter 43- The Dining Interview

Sophia's POV I turned to each side of the bed, while I robbed my eyes. It was morning, my head was banging, and I had a headache. I slowly sat up on the bed, My gaze met with the glass of water, a small tray with a card, that should be a pain reliever. I quietly brought my legs out of the duvet to the floor, “Olivia Hart is such a kind soul.” I said while walking over the table and sitting on the chair, I stole a quick glance of myself in the mirror, I looked pale and tired. My hand reached for the glass cup of water, I gulped down some while I had to take a tablet of the pain reliever. I quickly went into the bathroom, washed my face, took my toothbrush and applied the toothpaste on it so I could brush my teeth. I looked at myself in the bathroom mirror while I slowly took the brush into my mouth, my mind kept going to why Hillary would do what he did to me yesterday. I needed to speak with Claire who I haven't heard from in a long while. I dropped the toothbrush and decided to wal

  • Billionaire's Dark veil    Chapter 42- The Birthmark

Author's POV “You never asked how I've been doing since I was at Damian's Mansion,” Sophia said, giving him a side glance, while she spoke to him, her voice soft, but blunt. They both sat on the cushions in his living room, he didn't say a word to her after she had spoken, he kept his gaze fixed on his laptop while he punched its keyboard. He was busy with the contract file she had brought to him, she stared at him with pain in her eyes, her heart bleeding from the way he hurt her feelings. “We will be having dinner with De’ Wills company's CEO by next week, get prepared, and remember the contract.” He said, nonchalantly his gaze still fixed on his laptop, she clenched her fist, boiling with anger.“The contract, I remember, but you? You piss me off!” She spoke, standing to her feet in anger and rage, she wanted to spill it to his face, she glared at him, while he stared at her in shock, her confidence and boldness had shocked him. “Oh you irk me! You think you can just go about usin

  • Billionaire's Dark veil    Chapter 41- Hillary and His escort

Sophia's POV I sat on the bed after taking my shower and changing into my nightwear. I had eaten already, Karissa had brought my dinner to the room. Slowly, I lay back against the pillow, my gaze fixed on the POP ceiling. A soft smile tugged at my lips as memories of what happened at the pool replayed in my mind. I wondered why Damian acted sweet and calm all through the evening, then my phone began to ring. I jerked up, I wasn't expecting anyone, it stared at the screen when I picked the phone. It was Hillary. I checked the time on the wall clock in the room, it was past 10pm already. I picked the call on the second ring, “You must be having fun in the arms of that Bastard,” He said, his voice cold and bitter, filled with so much disdain. My heart began to beat faster, I could feel anger inside of me, why was he cursing? I thought to myself, “Is there anything you want me to do?” I asked, going straight to the point while I glared at the wall in anger and displeased. He let out a s

  • Billionaire's Dark veil    Chapter 40-  The Pool With Damian

Sophia's POV I walked through the mansion backdoor to the swimming pool, it was a serene stretch of sapphire water, perfectly still beneath the evening sky. Damian was already in the pool, swimming like he had competition to win. I gently pulled off the towel wrapped around my waist, revealing my bikini underneath. I placed the towel on the poolside lounger, I turned my gaze back to the water, I caught Damian staring and he quickly averted his gaze, saying nothing. I walked slowly to the edge of the pool and quietly dipped my legs into the cool, still water.“You finally came down,” He said, while he lowered himself into the pool again, I gently nodded, then he swam under the pool till he got to where I was, “I know you can swim Elena.” He with a small smile drawn across his lips, then he spoke again. “Let's swim, do you want to make it a competition?” I stared at him, then I chuckled. “What if I got PTSD?” I asked with a smirk on my lips, “But your legs are in the pool.” He said, hi

  • Billionaire's Dark veil    Chapter 39- The Contract File

Sophia's POV It was noon. I was getting bored in the mansion. I had not seen Damian since he stepped into the house, when he had come back while I was at the dinning, his face was gloomy. “Did his father annoy him again?” I said to myself as I stared outside the windows looking at the pool just behind the mansion. Damian's Mansion was a replica of his father's mansion. Just then my phone beeped. It was a message from an unknown number, “You can go study and get the contract file.” I read, I stared at each word line by line. I gently placed the phone into my pocket while I walked over to the room door, I quietly turned the knob of the door and stepped out shutting the door behind. I froze when I had seen Marcus at the stairs, he stood there as if he was watching. He quietly nodded his head, urging me to move, I walked over to the last door along the passage.I walked inside the office after I had succeeded in opening the door, I quickly got to the desk, I pulled the drawer open, “Shit

  • Billionaire's Dark veil    Chapter 38- Damian's Apology

Sophia's POV My eyes fluttered open and rolled uncontrollably as confusion clouded my vision. Where was I? I bolted upright on the soft mattress, but the sudden movement I had made sent a sharp throb through my skull, my head was pounding, each beat louder than the last. I winced in pain, the dream I had. I saw Damian consoling me and telling me he had been looking for me for a very long time. I remembered I was pushed into the water by Damian's sister, I frowned. A lot had flashed through my mind when I had fallen into the water, memories of a little girl shoved into the water by a nun and screaming a boy's name for help. While I drowned in thought of what had happened, there was a knock on the door, I shifted my gaze to the door. “Who's there?” I asked, “Good morning Ms. Rivers,” A feminine voice had spoken from outside, it should be the maid. “Come in,” I said softly, And she pushed the door gently, “Morning Ma'am, my name is Karissa, I was assigned to work for you today.” She sai
