I blinked my eyes uncontrollably, I could felt the pain, a slow dull ache in my shoulder, my body felt heavy as if it was sinking into something soft, something unfamiliar, I rolled my eyes it was a hospital, “ How do you feeling?” I heard a voice from the end of the room, the voice was cold and familiar, I turned to the direction where the voice came from, “I feel good,” I said as I tried to sit up, I groaned, The pain from my shoulder was heavy, It was piercing like a needle pressed into a cloth, I sat up facing Damian who was now walking towards the bed he was putting on a black plain trousers and a black plain shirt, “ Did I stress you because of this,” I said pointing at my shoulder where the bullet had penetrated, He chuckled and gave his usual cold stare, mean and weird, “ Did I ask you to take a bullet for me?” He said with a smirk on his face, he slid his hands into his pocket, staring at me and waiting for my answers, I slowly lowered my head, my face became pale and sad, why was he being rude? “I never planned to Mr. Blackwood,” I said stealing a quick glance at him, I gave a deadly stare, and shifted my gaze to the window, so many thoughts about the gunfire flashed through my head, “ Where did you get that from?” His voice came again colder than usual, “What?” I asked, and shifted my gaze back to him, my brow furrowed in confusion, “ The pendant,” He said, letting a hand out of his pocket, and reaching out to the pendant on my neck, I stared at him like I was lost, “I.. I don’t remember, I think It’s a thrifted necklace I got with my best friend Claire sometime ago,” I said taking a quick glance at the pendant, it was a simple sliver locket, with it’s delicate edge. “Why do you ask?” Something flickered in his eyes, disappointment, frustration, pain, it disappeared quickly for me to tell, then he spoke again, “No reason,” His voice came out calm and low, like something was consuming him from the inside.

I wanted to persuade him to speak, but his facial expression wasn’t giving a good one at all, his expression showed how he wasn’t ready to talk to anyone about anything, I quickly shoved it off and changed the subject, “ Can I ask for a favor ,” I said, trying to draw his attention for wherever his mind was, he turned his gaze to me, he eyes showed eagerness to hear whatever I wanted to say, he nodded in affirmation for me to go on, “ For my publishing company, I want to write about you,” I said and paused then I stole a glace at him and continued, “ Your biography Mr. Blackwood,” Then I shifted my gaze to the ground, he stood there, staring at me, as if he was studying me, the silence caused heart race faster, “Fine,” He said and it cut me off guard, “Fine?” He gave me a cold stare like he had something under his sleeves, then he turned and slowly walked towards the door, my gaze followed every step he made, I wanted to hear him say something again, why was he leaving, he turned the door knob, and he spoke again, “ I will schedule the time for the next interview,” He said, his voice coming out cold, echoing in the walls of the room, he said and walked out, shutting the door immediately like he didn’t want to hear me speak, “Why does he feel too important?” I muttered under my breath and laid back on the bed, I was deep in thought on how to continue my investigation, then my phone on the table beside the bed rang, I rushed to pick, it was Hillary, he must have heard about the gunfire, “Look at the couch in the room, then meet me outside,” He said immediately, his voice came out colder than usual, it showed anger and pain through the phone, I quickly rushed to the couch, there was a fancy bag there, a red designer’s gown was in the bag, I quickly changed and dressed quickly, I walked out of the hospital quickly so I won’t get caught, because Damian had assigned someone to take care of me.

I hastened my footsteps and got to Hillary’s Black SUV, I hopped in immediately, “ How do you feel?” He said, his voice coming out cold, I could feel the disappointment in his voice, I knew it was all about Damian and the interview, I stole a glance at him as I fastened my seat belt, “ I feel better,” I said relaxing into the chair, “ Why did you do it?” he spoke as he slowly swept his gaze over me, “ I never planned to,” I said shifting my gaze outside the window, I was getting pissed, nothing was my fault. “ I know you have no information yet, You have only one job, get all necessary information for me,” He said this time his voice coming out softer than ever, though commanding, then he came closer and he quickly pulled my face closer to his, my eyes closed for a few seconds, it was a kiss on my lip, It lasted for a few seconds, I’ve never felt this way before, it was a short time kiss, my heart jumped into my stomach, “ I knew about the gunfire before it happened, just do your job for me to strike,” He broke out, pulling back from me this time his voice cold and serious, like he meant business, He quickly started the Engine and drove off, Was he the master planner behind the gunfire? So many questions running through my head, the thought of the kiss, and the question in my head, Did he plan the gunfire outbreak? My heart raced faster as I shifted my gaze to the roadside.

Author's POV “You never asked how I've been doing since I was at Damian's Mansion,” Sophia said, giving him a side glance, while she spoke to him, her voice soft, but blunt. They both sat on the cushions in his living room, he didn't say a word to her after she had spoken, he kept his gaze fixed on his laptop while he punched its keyboard. He was busy with the contract file she had brought to him, she stared at him with pain in her eyes, her heart bleeding from the way he hurt her feelings. “We will be having dinner with De’ Wills company's CEO by next week, get prepared, and remember the contract.” He said, nonchalantly his gaze still fixed on his laptop, she clenched her fist, boiling with anger.“The contract, I remember, but you? You piss me off!” She spoke, standing to her feet in anger and rage, she wanted to spill it to his face, she glared at him, while he stared at her in shock, her confidence and boldness had shocked him. “Oh you irk me! • Billionaire's Dark veil    Chapter 41- Hillary and His escort

Sophia's POV I sat on the bed after taking my shower and changing into my nightwear. I had eaten already, Karissa had brought my dinner to the room. Slowly, I lay back against the pillow, my gaze fixed on the POP ceiling. A soft smile tugged at my lips as memories of what happened at the pool replayed in my mind. I wondered why Damian acted sweet and calm all through the evening, then my phone began to ring. I jerked up, I wasn't expecting anyone, it stared at the screen when I picked the phone. It was Hillary. I checked the time on the wall clock in the room, it was past 10pm already. I picked the call on the second ring, “You must be having fun in the arms of that Bastard,” He said, his voice cold and bitter, filled with so much disdain. My heart began to beat faster, I could feel anger inside of me, why was he cursing? I thought to myself, “Is there anything you want me to do?” I asked, going straight to the point while I glared at the wall in anger and displeased. He let out a s

  • Billionaire's Dark veil    Chapter 40-  The Pool With Damian

Sophia's POV I walked through the mansion backdoor to the swimming pool, it was a serene stretch of sapphire water, perfectly still beneath the evening sky. Damian was already in the pool, swimming like he had competition to win. I gently pulled off the towel wrapped around my waist, revealing my bikini underneath. I placed the towel on the poolside lounger, I turned my gaze back to the water, I caught Damian staring and he quickly averted his gaze, saying nothing. I walked slowly to the edge of the pool and quietly dipped my legs into the cool, still water.“You finally came down,” He said, while he lowered himself into the pool again, I gently nodded, then he swam under the pool till he got to where I was, “I know you can swim Elena.” He with a small smile drawn across his lips, then he spoke again. “Let's swim, do you want to make it a competition?” I stared at him, then I chuckled. “What if I got PTSD?” I asked with a smirk on my lips, “But your legs are in the pool.” He said, hi

  • Billionaire's Dark veil    Chapter 39- The Contract File

Sophia's POV It was noon. I was getting bored in the mansion. I had not seen Damian since he stepped into the house, when he had come back while I was at the dinning, his face was gloomy. “Did his father annoy him again?” I said to myself as I stared outside the windows looking at the pool just behind the mansion. Damian's Mansion was a replica of his father's mansion. Just then my phone beeped. It was a message from an unknown number, “You can go study and get the contract file.” I read, I stared at each word line by line. I gently placed the phone into my pocket while I walked over to the room door, I quietly turned the knob of the door and stepped out shutting the door behind. I froze when I had seen Marcus at the stairs, he stood there as if he was watching. He quietly nodded his head, urging me to move, I walked over to the last door along the passage.I walked inside the office after I had succeeded in opening the door, I quickly got to the desk, I pulled the drawer open, “Shit

  • Billionaire's Dark veil    Chapter 38- Damian's Apology

Sophia's POV My eyes fluttered open and rolled uncontrollably as confusion clouded my vision. Where was I? I bolted upright on the soft mattress, but the sudden movement I had made sent a sharp throb through my skull, my head was pounding, each beat louder than the last. I winced in pain, the dream I had. I saw Damian consoling me and telling me he had been looking for me for a very long time. I remembered I was pushed into the water by Damian's sister, I frowned. A lot had flashed through my mind when I had fallen into the water, memories of a little girl shoved into the water by a nun and screaming a boy's name for help. While I drowned in thought of what had happened, there was a knock on the door, I shifted my gaze to the door. “Who's there?” I asked, “Good morning Ms. Rivers,” A feminine voice had spoken from outside, it should be the maid. “Come in,” I said softly, And she pushed the door gently, “Morning Ma'am, my name is Karissa, I was assigned to work for you today.” She sai

  • Billionaire's Dark veil    Chapter 37- The Emergency Message

Damian's POV I had gotten upstairs back to the room where Elena was. I thought about the message my father had sent to me. It was the latter, I wondered about the room, so my mother is alive. How do I go about finding her? I turned to Elena who laid on the bed, still unconscious. I walked over to the bed and sat beside her, memories of me and Emilia at the orphanage flashed through his mind, I smiled while I gazed at Emilia. Suddenly there was a gentle knock on the door, he lifted his eyes and shifted his gaze to the door. “Come in,” I said, coldly. Victor pushed the door quietly, “Mr. Blackwood it's morning already, won't you like to have some rest,” He said, when he had approached me. “Don't worry, I'm fine, young man.” I said, staring at him with a straight face. He nodded, “Okay Sir.” He said and turned to leave, “I will be going to my father's place tomorrow.” I said and he stopped halfway and turned, “Again Sir?” He asked, his face showed curiosity. “Yes, I need to speak with
