Heartless Taunts

It was raining cats and dogs as Ria made her way out the back door. Not to mention how cold the weather has become. She wanted to minimize the chances of bumping into her ex husband's lover. She did not want to see nor meet the woman her ex husband loved so much. It was like slapping herself in the face.

She had literally thrown away her luggage after the pair of sinister mother and daughter insulted and humiliated her. She even talked back to them, fed up with their heartless taunts. She realized that she didn't need anything from the Earlson family. She was on all her own. Before she divorce her husband and left, Gloria and Ally made sure to laugh and mock her. Ria wanted to laugh at her foolishness.

What did she expected from him? Love? His care? His smiles? Or his gentleness like how he treated his lover? He had never treated her like how he treated Hailee.

She thought she could make his cold heart warm with sincerity, but it seemed that she had overestimated herself.

"Don't think about what I think of you. I will never fall in love with you in my life," one time he told her.

It was all one sided. Just a one sided love, Ria told herself. Her vision became blurred due to the heavy rain and as she aimlessly wandered in the dark city, her foot caught onto something and she fell hard onto the concrete pavement. She coughed a few times before pushed herself up, staggering as she went. Cold wind caressed her skin and blew through her thin wet dress, making her shiver.

One time, she had seen Wyatt lovingly caress a picture of a woman. When she asked about it, he ignored her and changed topics. He became angry with her and scolded her to mind her own business. So Ria no longer asks about his business. She was afraid of making him angry.

She gave him her heart and soul yet he ignored her, treating her as if she was invisible. In fact, the entire Earlson family treated her as if she was invisible. Not a single maid or servant helped or spoke to her. So she was forced to do her own laundry and even clean her room.

Her mother-in-law even forced her to clean the mansion. She would occasionally scold her, "Don't think you can live here for free! You may be the wife of my son and hostess of this mansion, but you are no different than a street girl. Whatever intentions you have against my son should stop here and forever! Clean all these up!"

Her mother-in-law made her feel like she was another Cinderella and would only treat her better whenever Wyatt was around. She never complain or voice out her grievances because she thought that as long as he loves her, she could endure all the harsh treatment. She would be contented and happy with it. But no! All these years, he only had eyes for that woman. She never had a place in his heart or mind. She finally realized that it was all a show just for his grandfather's eyes.

Only the butler, Mr Stone was kind enough to help her every now and then. Come to think of it, Ria understood that no matter what she did or do, Wyatt would never spare her a glance. She had carried herself as a gentle, docile and obedient girl because he said he liked that type of girls. She had left her family for him and this was what she got in return - pain, sufferings, misery, hurt and humilation.

The skies were getting darker and darker and the weather was getting colder. There was not a taxi in sight and she didn't have a phone with her. Neither there was anyone around to help her. Well, she didn't their help anyway. No one could help her with the pain she was feeling in her heart. Ria looked no different than a crazy mental girl who ran out of the mental hospital.

Ria sat by the roadside, her knees up to her chest as she began to sob uncontrollably. Back in the Earlson mansion, she didn't dare to cry or shed a tear for fear of being reprimanded by her mother-in-law and sister-in-law. Now, no one was watching her so she was free. Free to do anything her heart wants. So free yet she was breaking down and no one was by her side.

Tear drops fall and fall endlessly. They poured like a fountain. She released all those tears she had been holding back. Time seemed to pass slowly like a candle. She sniffed and pressed her face into her dirt covered lavender gown while hugging her legs tightly. She was drenched from head to toe, her skin pale and sickly. The radiance in her eyes were gone, they were dull and lifeless, replaced by misery. She had lost all hopes and way like an empty lifeless shell.

She felt like dying. Her heart was broken to pieces and scattered everywhere. She would never be the same after these.

Suddenly, her dark surroundings were illuminated by a stream of bright light. Soon, she heard the sound of a car tires crunching on the road. It stopped in front of her, the hot air from the engine giving her slight comfort. She felt it's presence - dark, mighty and luxurious.

Ria slowly lifted her head, using her hand to shield her eyes from the blinding light. The door opened and a man dressed exquisitely in a black suit stepped out. The wind brushed against his dark hair. He delivered an intimidating yet powerful aura. He slowly took off his dark glasses and took a good look at her. Her eyes were swollen from crying and she was sniffing terribly. She had a runny nose too.

"Miss Flinch, I'm assigned to pick you up and return to your family. Your brothers and grandfather are awaiting your return," he bowed respectfully to the frail looking girl.
