The Divorce Agreement

She came home from her lowly paid job and made her way through the glass doors of a magnificent large mansion.

One would think that she was a maid or housekeeper judging from the way she was dressed. But who would know that she was actually the wife of the master who owns the mansion and a large amount of properties and businesses?

She quietly made her way upstairs to get change. It had been a hectic day for her. Just as she opened the door to her room, she saw a figure sitting in her chair, looking solemn and arrogant. Sunlight poured in from the window, casting an angelic light on his handsome side profile.

He looked up at her when she stepped through the door. Had he come to see after many days? She felt excited. He had repeatedly told her that he was busy and had no time to spend with her. They had been married for a long time, however, he never treated her like she was his wife.

He stood up and sauntered over to her. He raised his arm....

Bang!

Ria stared at the papers that he had thrown at her face just three minutes ago. Tears threatened to fall from her eyes as she read the large words printed at the top 'DIVORCE'.

Time suddenly seemed to move slowly. She could hear the slow ticking of the clock on the wall. As if on cue, lightning flashed across the bright morning sky followed by the hammerings of thunder.

Her voice became unsteady as she raised her chin and saw her husband glancing impatiently at her. She took a deep breath, hoping to calm herself before asking him.

"What is this?" She managed to choke out the words. She swallowed a lump in her throat.

"Are you blind?" His words came out harsh. It seems like he couldn't wait to divorce her and be free of her. Ria walked towards him, standing face to face with him. She wanted to hear him say it himself. She forced herself to pretend to be calm.

"It's time for us to go our separate ways, Ria. These five years have been nothing but torture to me. I don't love you," Wyatt Earlson declared. His tone was emotionless and indifferent. It seems like all the years together were nothing but a joke in his eyes. Eventually, he would choose that woman over her.

Torture? So that's what he thought of the time they spent together? What about the time when he happily showed her off to his family members? And the time when he affectionately held her hand and announced to the world that she was his lawfully wedded wife? The truth came out as a huge slap to her face.

"Then..... Then are you going to marry her?" Ria managed to ask. She knew that she was in no position to ask about his affairs bit she just wanted an answer. After all, she spent five years married to him and ten years loving him. So the total would be fifteen years!

Yes, Ria had fallen for Wyatt when they were kids. They went to the same school together and she used to peek at him from the corner while he played basketball with his friends. She had a crush on him for THAT many years before his grandfather suddenly announced her as his wife. She was overjoyed when she heard the news.

Previously she had heard about Wyatt having an affair with another woman but she didn't bother about it. She was his wife so she trusted him. But then, he had started to ignore her and often go out to spend time with some 'friends' which she knew didn't exist. She was a woman as well, how could she not know?

"Why do you ask when we are about to have nothing to do with each other?" came his cold reply. The atmosphere suddenly turned tensed and cold. His eyes no longer held the loving expression he had when he first married her. Instead, it was ruthlessly cold and icy.

She was taken aback by the rudeness he was showing to her. Usually, he treated her quite well. Although he never went out of his way to do things for her like he would do for that woman, he would give in to her demands. Or was it all just a show for his grandfather?

"Sign it. We can both be free of this torture. You can be with whoever you want and so can I. You don't have to waste your time on me anymore," he insisted. He seemed like he couldn't wait to be free of this marriage.

"W-why? Then w-why..... did you agree to the marriage if you didn't love me?" Bitterness washed over her beautiful face as she forced the tears back.

"Because I already have someone I loved. You should have known from the start that I only married you because of my grandfather's wishes. The one I love is Hailee. I would do anything for her to be happy, including giving her the life she deserves,"

Hearing him affectionately calling another woman's name made Ria realized the hard truth. Reality hit her like a high speed train.

Ria wanted to laugh and slap herself. So all these years she had been in love and devoted to him while he had another woman! What a joke! Ria maintained her composure and instead squared her shoulders and straightened her back.

There wasn't a single ounce of regret on his face. In fact, he couldn't wait to kick her out of his mansion and out of his life!

"I've already signed my name. You should sign yours too," he was bent on this matter.

Her legs started to tremble as well as she stared at the ominous words. Being his mistress wasn't as bad as getting divorced, but considering his attitude, he wouldn't agree to it, lest allow Hailee his true love to suffer anymore injustice.

So she picked up the pen, hands shaking.
