~•~

Would he really ask the security to throw me out if I refused to sign the papers? So he wasn’t joking? It wasn’t a prank? He actually wanted me to sign the papers and end the marriage?

My chest tightened and I felt an excruciating pain as I thought about everything. I wanted to run after him. I wanted to talk to him and make him realize that he was making a mistake.

But I was too stunned to even speak.

It felt like my legs were glued to the ground. I couldn’t move. I was starting to realize how real it was - how serious Lucas was.

He didn’t even have an ounce of sympathy for me. He didn’t care about how I felt. He only thought about himself.

I picked up my phone and called my best friend again.

“He said he would ask security to help me out if I’m still at the house when he returns from work.” My voice was shaking as I told her about it.

Olivia sighed. “So you still won’t sign it?”

I exhaled heavily as I ran my hands through my hair. “ I won’t sign it. I’ll give him some time to think about it. Maybe he would change his mind by the end of the day.”

I was certain that Olivia was tired of my bad choices, but still chose to remain patient. She never made me feel like I was stupid even though I was clearly making terrible choices.

“Okay, don’t hesitate to call me if you need anything.” She added and I responded with a nod. We talked for a few minutes before the call finally disconnected.

After the call, I went into the kitchen to get myself a glass of water. “Are you okay?” The maid asked when she saw me walk into the kitchen.

She must’ve overheard my conversation.

She already knew what was going on in my marriage. Ever since I stepped foot into the house, she knew that Lucas didn’t love me.

But she never spoke to me about it. I was guessing that she didn’t want to cross her boundaries.

I nodded my head. “Yes, I am okay.” I lied.

“Are you sure? Is everything okay between you and Lucas?” She asked with a hint of genuine concern in her voice.

I wanted to lash out and ask her to mind her business. I wanted somebody I could transfer all the anger that was boiling over me.

But I chose to remain calm.

She wasn’t the cause of my miseries.

I forced a smile. “You don’t have to worry about me. I’ll be fine. Everything will be fine.” I assured her even though I wasn’t so sure anymore.

Lucas seemed serious and I doubted if I would be able to make him change his mind. But even with my doubts, I still wasn’t ready to give up.

I wasn’t sure I would be able to move on from him.

The maid responded with a curt nod as she took the hint that I didn’t want to talk about my marriage with her. After I took my water, I made my way back to the room.

My eyes landed on the divorce papers that Lucas had dropped for me. I picked it up and glanced through it. It was a different set of papers.

So he had a backup in case something happened to the first one? My stomach churned as I saw that he had already signed his part.

It was then that it dawned on me that it was actually serious.

Lucas Brown was serious about ending the marriage.

He wanted to throw three years down the drain. Just like that? No! I couldn’t let it happen.

Just like I did to the other paper, I squeezed it into a ball and tossed it into the trash can close to the door. After that, I made my way into the bathroom and engaged in a quick shower.

I couldn’t wait for Lucas to come back in the evening before talking to him. I already memorized his schedule and I knew he always had a meeting at his office at this time every week.

After I was done dressing up, I grabbed my car keys and headed downstairs. Soon enough, I was on my way to his office.

I parked my car and was headed into the entrance of the building when I saw HER. I stopped in my tracks and let out a deep breath to calm myself down.

What was she doing at his office?

I remained calm and kept on walking even though I was about to lose my mind. I was already hurting, but seeing her in person just made everything worse.

I came to Lucas’s office to talk to him about our marriage, but I wasn’t sure he would even listen to me since she was around.

Just as I stepped my foot inside the building, I saw Lucas come out of the elevator. My heart was racing in my chest as I saw him hug her from behind.

He never hugged me like that.

She turned around and threw her hands over him.

My heart broke with each passing second.

I watched him treat her like I wanted to be treated. It was clear that he was madly in love with her. That they were madly in love with each other.

But yet, I still wanted to fight for him.

I was ready to settle for the second choice.

Letting out a deep sigh, I continued walking in their direction. A part of me wanted to turn around and go back home, but I didn’t.

I needed to do what I came for.

Lucas’s expression changed into a disgusted one when he laid his eyes on me. “What are you doing here?” He yelled without even letting me get close to them.

Sophia turned around, condescendingly staring at me. She whispered something in Lucas’s ear and they both laughed.

I felt so humiliated but I kept on walking in their direction.

I still wanted to say what I had left the house for.

Just as I stood in front of them and opened my mouth to speak, everywhere became dizzy.

“What is happening?” I whispered to myself.

Before I could even realize what was going on, I landed on the ground.

Chapter 111 Lucas Brown ~•~ Becky’s sister actually wanted to drag me to court. After she realized she didn’t have a solid case, she resorted to asking for a settlement. She asked for a million dollars. I didn’t understand her pain, but if a million dollars would make her feel better, I didn’t mind wasting it on her. At least, she would get off my back. I stopped by my parents’ house after l was done with my lawyer. I hadn’t seen them in a while, and with everything that was going on, they requested to see me. “Lucas, come here.” My mother pulled me into a warm hug as soon as I stepped foot into the living room. “I missed you so much.” My lips curled into a soft smile. “I missed you too, ma’am.” “How are you holding up?” Her expression turned sympathetic as she broke the hug. “Do you need to go for therapy?” I couldn’t hold back my laughter even if I tried. “No, I don’t need therapy,” I said as we settled down on the couch. “Where is Dad?” I asked, my eyes

Chapter 110 Layla Patel ~•~ Lucas had to take care of some stuff concerning Becky’s passing, so he wasn’t present for lunch with Olivia. A part of me was relieved because I knew that they weren’t exactly fond of each other. And I wasn’t in the mood to mediate tension. Still, I hoped one day we would all be able to sit together and just be civil. But that was a task for another day. Lunch lasted for about two hours. The kids engaged in conversation with me and Olivia. It was fun and I enjoyed catching up on our lives - even if most of my part was sad. I managed to smile - not because it didn’t hurt, but because I felt proud of myself for surviving them. It made me stronger. And I was happy that phase of my life was over. Now I was surrounded by people who genuinely loved and cared about me. Life felt a little bit lighter and I couldn’t stop smiling. Soon enough, the girls got bored with us and retreated to their room. After they left, I finally got t

Chapter 109 Layla Patel ~•~ My lips curled into a proud smile as I watched everyone sit around the table, eating dinner. For a moment, everything seemed perfect. The girls were happy to be in New York. I was also happy to be there. It felt like a veil of sadness had been lifted from my life. There was peace. “Are you guys enjoying your food?” Lucas and the girls nodded collectively. “Mama is the best cook ever.” Akira bragged, turning to Lucas. Lucas chuckled. “I know, I’ve been missing a lot.” “I’m so happy that we are all here now.” Lily chimed in on the conversation, grinning from ear to ear. I felt the same way too. After dinner, the kids went upstairs to their room, while I stayed back to clear the table and wash the dishes. “You know you don’t have to do all these by yourself, right?” Lucas asked as he followed me into the kitchen. I laughed. “I know, but I just want to do it.” “You’re so humble.” I nodded. “I guess I am.” Sho

Trigger warning: This chapter depicts suicidal themes and may be triggering for some readers. Reader discretion advised. Chapter 108 Lucas Brown ~•~ “You killed my sister! You fucking killed my sister because you didn’t want her to give birth to your child!” Becky’s sister’s voice sounded far away even though she was standing in front of me. I couldn’t bring myself to process what was happening. I just stood there, shocked. “Wait to hear from our lawyer. You will lose a lot of money after I take you to court.” She continued to threaten me as she cried. I didn’t kill Becky. She committed suicide. Becky killed herself by overdosing on drugs. I don’t know why she did it. But I didn’t ask her to do it. Why was her sister blaming me? Even if I didn’t want to have anything to do with her, I didn’t wish death on her. Becky had been my assistant for years, and I cared about her as a person. Seeing her lifeless body made my blood freeze. But I felt g

Chapter 107 Layla Patel ~•~ In the middle of our conversation, Lucas received a phone call that left him shocked. “What’s going on?” I asked, my eyebrows etched in confusion. He exhaled sharply. “I don’t know yet. I have to go.” Without another word, he turned around and left me standing alone. I couldn’t help but wonder who was on the other end of the phone or what they had said to him. After he left, I walked back to my room and shut the door. I would get an explanation when he returned home. I just hoped that it wasn’t something bad that had happened. I picked up my phone and called Olivia. “Hey, it’s me again.” I chuckled lightly as she answered the call. “What’s going on?” Olivia asked with a hint of curiosity in her voice. “Something just happened,” I replied, sitting down on the bed. “Would you judge me if I told you that I have feelings for Lucas?” There was a brief silence. For a moment, I thought Olivia had abruptly ended the call because s

  • Billionaire’s Ex-Wife’s Revenge   106. Something Bad

Chapter 106 Lucas Brown ~•~ Becky seemed terrified. “I didn’t know you would show up. By the time I called my sister to stop her, she was already at your house.” She offered a lame apology. My fists curled into a ball. I had to take multiple deep breaths to calm myself down. Before I could say anything else, Jamie stepped in. “You’ve been nothing but ungrateful. You should be lucky we didn’t sue you for trapping my brother with a baby. I don’t even like you but I’ve been here for you throughout your pregnancy but it’s not enough.” Becky whimpered, her voice shaky. “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean….” Jamie cut her off before she could complete her sentence. “I don’t know what your intentions were but best believe, we will file for custody after you give birth and you will be out of our lives for good.” I stayed quiet as Jamie continued speaking. Someone actually needed to put Becky in her place. I had been giving her grace because I felt she was just lashing
