They stepped out of the restaurant just as the first drops of rain began to fall.

Cynthia looked up at the dark sky.

"Looks like we're going to get wet."

Damien glanced toward the parking area.

"We should hurry."

They walked toward the car, but before they could reach it, the rain became heavier. By the time Cynthia got inside, her hair and shoulders were already slightly drenched.

Damien closed his door and looked at her.

"You're wet."

She laughed softly.

"I noticed."

He reached toward the bac

Two days passed. The estate had never felt so quiet.Cynthia and Damien barely spoke during those two days. They lived under the same roof, walked through the same rooms, and sometimes passed each other in the hallway, but it felt as though an invisible wall had risen between them.Damien no longer slept beside her.The first night, Cynthia had waited for him.She had stayed awake longer than usual, listening for his footsteps, expecting the door to open.It never did.The second night, she didn't wait. She simply turned off the light and went to sleep. She didn't ask him why.Breakfast had changed too. They used to sit together, sometimes talking about nothing important, sometimes teasing each other. Damien would watch her eat and make some comment about how much food she could finish. Now he ate alone.Or sometimes he didn't eat at all.Damien had buried himself in work.He spent most of his time inside his office, surrounded by files, phone calls, meetings, and endless screens. Cynthia started avoiding Damien. At first, she didn't do it intentionally. She simply didn't know how to behave around him anymore.Every time she saw him, a hundred questions came into her mind. She wanted to ask him what had changed, why he had suddenly become distant, and whether the feelings he had confessed to her were still there. But she was afraid of the answers. So she chose silence. If Damien entered the dining room, Cynthia would suddenly become interested in her food. If he walked into the living room, she would find a reason to leave. If they crossed paths in the hallway, she would give him a small smile and look away before their eyes could meet.Damien noticed every bit of it.At first, he thought she was angry with him.Perhaps she was getting back at him for leaving her alone. But after a while, he realized it wasn't anger. She was hurt. And somehow, that was worse. He missed the way she used to look at him.He missed her questions, her laughter, and the way she would

By afternoon, Cynthia was feeling a little better. The fever had gone down, although her body still felt weak and heavy. The maid had brought her a bowl of hot soup along with some medicine, insisting that she eat before taking it.Cynthia had thanked her and slowly finished the soup. After taking the medicine, she returned to her bed with the book she had been reading and tried to lose herself in the pages. For a while, it worked. Then she heard footsteps approaching her room. She looked up.The footsteps stopped outside her door.A second later, the door swung open.Damien stood there. His expression changed the moment he saw her.He smiled. It was the same warm smile she had become so used to seeing from him.But Cynthia couldn't return it.She simply stared at him.Damien noticed immediately. He walked into the room and closed the door behind him.His eyes fell on the medicine and the glass of water sitting on the table."Are you sick?"Cynthia nodded."I had a little fever."His

Damien sat alone in his office, staring at the city through the enormous glass windows. He had come to work early, but he had barely done anything since arriving. There were files on his desk.Emails waiting for his approval.Calls he was supposed to return.People waiting for decisions.None of it mattered to him.He hadn't slept the entire night.Every time he closed his eyes, Cynthia came into his mind. Her face. Her smile. The way she had looked at him.And then the question he had been trying to avoid. Was what he was doing wrong?Damien leaned back in his chair and closed his eyes. For a while, love had made him forget everything. When he was with Cynthia, he didn't think about Thomas Hart.He didn't think about his father's death. He didn't think about revenge. He didn't think about the past.He simply thought about her.And perhaps that was exactly what frightened him.He had allowed himself to become happy. But happiness now felt like something he wasn't supposed to have.He

The next morning, Cynthia woke with a dull headache. She opened her eyes slowly and remained in bed for a moment, trying to shake off the heaviness in her body. Her head felt warm, and there was a slight ache running through her muscles. She finally got out of bed and walked toward the bathroom. After taking an aspirin from the medicine cabinet, she stepped into the shower, hoping the warm water would make her feel better. It helped a little. When she came out, she changed into comfortable clothes and tied her damp hair loosely behind her head. She still didn't feel completely well, but the medicine was beginning to take effect. She went downstairs. The estate was unusually quiet.Cynthia walked into the dining room and sat at the table. She didn't have much appetite, but she knew she needed to eat something. The maid noticed her almost immediately."Miss Cynthia, are you feeling all right?"Cynthia gave her a small smile."I'm fine. Just a little tired."The maid looked at her face."

When Damien finally returned to the estate, it was already late.He stepped inside quietly, his mind still occupied by everything he had been thinking about since the afternoon. For a moment, he stood in the hallway. He knew where he wanted to go.Cynthia's room.Yet his feet wouldn't move.He had spent the entire journey home thinking about her, and now that he was finally here, he was suddenly hesitant to face her. What was he supposed to do?Pretend everything was normal?Smile at her?Hold her like he had every night?Or tell her that he was beginning to question everything between them?Damien didn't have an answer.Eventually, his legs carried him toward her room.He slowly opened the door.Cynthia was asleep. She looked completely peaceful, curled slightly beneath the blanket. Her face was relaxed, her breathing soft and steady.Damien stood by the doorway for several seconds. He wanted to walk over to her.He wanted to lie beside her, pull her into his arms, and forget every t
