KATHERINE’S POV

I tried not to think too much about what Alex said to me as I got into the elevator leading to Hazel's apartment.

His eyes looked really sincere and this wasn't the first time he was saying something like this to me but I couldn't let myself sway over his words.

There were just too many pressing issues to deal with right now and I couldn't afford to focus on his words.

The elevator dinged and I walked out in a hurry. Hazel sounded worried earlier when she called me and while she tried to downplay it, I could hear it in her voice and I wasn't a fool to wave something like this off.

The door opened right before I could dial the key code and I stared in shock at the face right in front of me.

He froze and blinked, probably trying to wake himself up or come up with an excuse.

“What’s wrong??” Hazel asked behind him and peeked her head out to stare at me.

Her face turned tomato red immediately and she parted her lips, panic causing her eyes to dance.
