Chapter 13: She Woke Up

Her eyes resisted opening, but reason warned that she needed to wake up. Cara slowly looked around. Everything was clear—the quiet room, the white ceiling. She turned her head, trying to see better while her mind struggled to piece together the fragmented memories: going to school, rain, crossing the street, the crash, the darkness… Finally, she concluded that she was in the hospital.

It was lucky that someone had helped her and brought her to the hospital. Cara had once feared that passersby would just leave her behind without a second thought, without compassion. And even luckier, she still had the chance to see the sunlight. It seemed her fate wasn’t over yet, just as she had silently prayed before closing her eyes. She silently thanked God.

As Cara was trying to calm herself, the doctor in charge of her treatment came in for a routine checkup. Keva, the beautiful blonde doctor, seemed very pleased to see Cara awake.
