Delilah’s Pov

The maid’s hands were gentle, almost too gentle, as she worked the ache out of my arms and shoulders.

I sat there, silent, staring into nothing. The pain was dull, bearable, nothing my wolf blood couldn’t heal by morning. But it wasn’t the soreness that kept me still. It was the weight of this place. The walls, the silence, the constant reminder that I wasn’t free.

When the maid finished, she lowered her gaze respectfully. “You should rest, my lady. No stress, no strain. If you’d like, you may dine here in your chamber… or join Lord Verret and Lord Ramon in the dining hall.”

The obvious choice was here, where I could pretend the world beyond this room didn’t exist. But then, an idea bloomed, reckless and stupid. I had plenty of those. Stupid plans were all I had left, and maybe one of them would eventually get me out of this cage.

“I’ll dine downstairs,” I said, surprising even myself.

The maid’s eyes widened but she nodded quickly. “Then allow me to help you.”

Malric’s Pov Ava’s words hit me like a thunderbolt.“What?” I snapped, my voice echoing off the stone walls. “You mean, you knew where she was? You knew all this while?” My fists slammed against the wooden table, rattling the bottles and scrolls resting there. “And you didn’t think I deserved to know?”Ava flinched but stood her ground, her calm eyes betraying a hint of guilt. “Malric, listen—”“Don’t tell me to listen!” I growled, my voice harsh, my chest burning with the fury I’d been holding for weeks. “You watched me tear down every den, every lair, every bloody forest looking for her and you stood there, knowing this?”“I didn’t know how to tell you,” Ava said, her tone steady but quiet. “Because where she is… it’s not a place anyone should go.”Her words slowed me down. Just for a second.I stared at her. “Where?” My voice lowered to a dangerous whisper. “Where is she, Ava?”She hesitated, then turned toward the table. “Come here.”I stepped closer, my pulse pounding as she unf

Malric’s Pov The days had turned to weeks, and still, no word of Delilah. The sun rose and fell, but everything in the kingdom stayed cold and heavy, like the sky itself was mourning her absence. I hadn’t eaten properly in days. I looked so unkept But I didn’t care. Because my mate, my Delilah was out there. Somewhere. And every heartbeat that still echoed inside me was proof she was alive. If she were gone, I would feel it. I would know. The bond between us would have died too, but it hadn’t. It still ached, sharp and burning in my chest, like a cruel reminder that she was alive but far away. Ava had been working for days, sketching sigils, drawing symbols that glowed under moonlight. The map to the witches’ domain wasn’t something anyone created easily; it demanded patience, focus, and sacrifice. But every passing hour felt like a blade twisting in my gut. She was taking too long. What if Delilah was hurt? What if she was calling for me right now, and I wasn’t there? I clenc

Delilah’s Pov I just sat there, staring at him.I didn’t even know what to feel anymore. Everything had happened too fast. One moment we were in his mansion, the next people wanted me dead, then we jumped through a window and into a portal. Now I was here, sitting in some strange house while Verret stood a few feet away, acting like this was all perfectly normal.“We’ll do everything together,” he’d said.I didn’t even know what that meant. Everything together? Eat together? Sleep together? Die together? He was watching me quietly, that unreadable look on his face again.“Are you okay?” he asked finally.I blinked, forcing my voice to stay steady. “Yes. I’m okay.”“Good.” He nodded, folding his hands behind him. “You can make yourself at home. The house is old, but it’s safe. You can walk around, explore, whatever makes you comfortable.”“I’m not making myself comfortable here,” I muttered. He smirked slightly, eyes glinting. “Anything you want to call it. But you can still look arou

Delilah’s PovAt first, I thought I was dreaming. The faint, golden shimmer reflecting off the mirror couldn’t be real, not on my skin, not me. But when I turned around and caught sight of my back through the mirror again, the light was brighter, pulsing like a heartbeat.“What the hell…” I whispered, twisting my shoulder to see it clearer. The mark had always been there, a strange, barely visible scar that I thought was just birth-related, nothing important. But now it was glowing, alive, breathing.I rubbed my palm over it and it felt warm, almost burning.“Why are you doing this?” I whispered to my own reflection, panic beginning to rise. The air in the room grew heavier. My breath came out shaky, uneven. And before I could think twice, the door burst open.“Delilah!”I flinched, turning sharply. It wasn’t Verret who came in first, it was one of the guards, his eyes wide, his expression tight with fear. Then, in seconds, Verret appeared behind him, his entire presence dark and comm

Verret’s PovThe silence followed us home. Her fingers had been warm against my palm during the walk, yet her words still echoed in the air like ghosts that refused to fade. She’d said she’d rather die than be with me.And still, she walked beside me.Delilah’s steps were slower now, the heels of her boots scraping faintly against the marble as we entered the mansion. I released her hand once we crossed the threshold, the door shutting behind us with a sound that carried finality. The air changed. I could feel it before I even saw them. The sitting room was filled. The gold-embroidered robes. The silent gazes that followed me like watchful predators. The faint smell of incense. The Priests’ Council.Delilah’s voice broke the hush.“Who are these people?” she asked, confusion wrinkling her brows.“You don’t need to know,” I said, my voice sharp, final. I didn’t look at her when I added, “Go upstairs.”Her lips parted, defiant as ever. “Why? What are you hiding now?”I turned to face he

Verret’s Pov The silence between us stretched like a blade, sharp and taunting. She walked beside me, her steps slow but purposeful, her eyes fixed ahead as though every petal and leaf offended her existence. I could hear the rustle of her gown brushing against the gravel path, soft and rhythmic — a sound that did something strange to me. I hated it. I wanted it louder. I wanted her voice louder. The gardens of my mansion looked alive under the dim morning light, vines climbing the marble pillars, roses half-bloomed, and the distant fountain whispering water songs. But she — she was quieter than all of it. And somehow, that silence screamed louder than any noise I’ve ever known.I finally broke it.“Do you always make it a point to ignore people who save your life?” I asked, tone calm, almost bored. She didn’t even flinch. “Do you always make it a point to ruin the lives you save?”Her answer made me smirk despite myself. “You’re learning to bite back again. That’s good. I was starti
